  1. I have a HC accessible 4J booked for my upcoming Liberty trip. I'm not in need of a HC room and booked it because it was available through Carnival. I do realize that I could be bumped if someone is in need of it and certainly don't have a problem with that. My question for those who have been bumped, did you find out before sailing you were bumped or when you checked in? There are still 4J's available on my sailing but if I was to get bumped when would I find out? Would my stateroom number change on my booking to the new cabin? Would I then have the opportunity to upgrade (pay difference) to a balcony if one was available?

I had the Spa equivalent of the 4J HC room booked (can't remember the category) and got bumped (they called me) to a Spa balcony on my last cruise (Magic). :)

  2. Hi Silverspringcruiser :)

My answer is slightly outside of the box and really doesn't have anything

in common regarding having more fun, however it is has a common aspect

concerning the title of your post, 'Stuff you didn't think to do until you were

    a repeat cruiser'...

After our very 1st voyage 31 years ago, my wife & I wrote down everything

we experienced when we got home. From our 2nd voyage on, until the present,

we decided to keep cruise journals.

Prior to going to sleep each evening my wife & I discuss the days events and

    log them.

We have been doing this for over three decades now and have many journals.

The strolls down memory lane are wonderful. In some ways more entertaining

than the photo's or video we have collected over the years.

Even picking out/purchasing the journal prior to the cruise has become

    a fun task in itself.

To us, it is another way, an interesting way, to save and also relive the

    voyage...

    :)

I'm a scrapbooker, and I journal every day so I can remember what I did on each day to go with my photos and postcards and FunTimes....

  3. See I would have probably never tried any drink that said spicy or chipotle! Now you have me thinking differently

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I was worried because I'm a wimp about stuff that's too spicy, but I didn't even taste it, maybe it just cuts out some of the sweetness.....

I love spicy food too, just not sure i would like it in a drink!

It doesn't make the drink spicy, at least when I had it (numerous times on the last cruise).

I don't know for sure what's in it and I know a lot of people love it, but I thought it was gross. I love margaritas and I love spicy food, but this tasted like they dumped chili powder into my drink. NASTY, maybe they didn't make it right.

Sounds like they made it wrong to me! Mine never tasted that way, blech!

  4. Just got off The Valor a few weeks ago. Greg Alcott can play the piano but singing and entertaining not so much. Going on The Breeze Jan 3 just saw Ben Gentry on you-tube, he looks more like my style so looking to forward to him.

I hope you like Ben, I've sailed with him twice and think he's a blast. I love comedy but never went to the shows because I got my fix in the piano bar :D

  5. Third for Blue Island Divers on St Thomas, I have dived with them twice.

Grand Turk diving is wonderful, just don't book with the ship (cattle call situation).

I don't think diving is offered at Half Moon Cay any more, I dove there several years ago and only saw a handful of fish; had much better luck on a snorkel trip. Since it's a cruiseline-owned island there's nobody else to book with.......

  6. Just a slight correction to the above info- There is indeed a dedicated VIP lounge. The FTTF folks are kept in their own area. But I will say the Galveston seems to have the fastest and smoothest boarding of any port I have been to.

I agree! I was very impressed with how organized they were :) I got to the port waaay to early, but once things started it was very quick.

  7. We have four different 16 oz. Tervis tumblers that we've purchased and use them a lot in the summer. They keep ice frozen much longer than a non-insulated cup or mug. We take ours to the pool with us, or in the car on a road trip, and on our cruises as well. The straws that are made for the Tervis tumblers are better suited for the 24 oz. cups and are too long for the 16 oz. cups, so we bought a pack of regular (plastic) straws that we use. I take a handful with us on our cruise, and throw them away when we need a new one. Are the tumblers overrated. Not in my opinion. In fact, on our next cruise, I'm planning to get one from the Red Frog Pub and the Blue Iguana Cantina. I like them much better than the non-insulated souvenir glasses that you can purchase on board.

When I took my Red Frog Rum Bar cup (from the Breeze) to the Red Frog Pub (on the Magic), the bartender wanted one, they don't have them :)

You get 16oz drinks for the 12oz price when you purchase the tumblers :D

  8. Oh, I forgot to add

Overrated: Faster to the fun. You people are paying $50 to get on the ship an hour before me. I'll just sleep in more, get to port at my leisure, and still have a fine time.

(Though it may be worth it for itineraries that see a lot of tenders).

So you are $50 richer than me, I'm happy for you! :p I will continue to buy FTTF until I'm platinum, and it's not about the "me first" of it all! I travel solo and juggling luggage while trying to get something to eat is awkward, so being able to drop all my stuff off right after boarding and receiving my checked luggage sooner is worth it to ME.

I travel from the "left" coast, so perhaps those of you who live closer can comfortably arrive later.....

  9. Just off the Magic with piano bar Ben Gentry. He was good, but don't like his hustle tactics.

Like, hey Tom, John just gave me 5 bucks to play his favorite, how about 10 & I'll play yours or hey Tom I need a drink.

I can see why that would bother some people, I guess I just see it as part of the gig. I enjoy his banter and props, but not everyone likes the way he makes songs his own (by changing the words to fit a particular cruiser, etc). I'm happy to be cruising with him again in February! :)

  10. You can also get discounted spa treatments on port days.......

In your cabin are two pairs of spa slippers, the linen spray, and a set of sample-sized Elemis toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion)....but the regular dispenser is still on the wall in the shower.

I believe you also get a free consultation with the spa doc.....so they can tell you in the nicest way possible why you need the latest cosmetic fillers......

  11. I am more active when cruising, so if anything, I am walking more, not less! I seemed to have swollen feet on vacation no matter what type of vacation it was, but yes, I flew each time.

I am not a doctor or medical professional of any kind, but this is what worked for ME; I started taking black cherry supplements two weeks before and during my cruise (it has also been recommended for gout). I also used a dry brush on my feet and ankles every day at bedtime. I tried to visit the Thalassotherapy pool every day.

I still had a tiny bit of swelling, but nothing like the usual "can't see my ankle bones" swelling I have gotten in the past.

  12. Booked on Conquest for my hubby & myself for New Years...... balance due on 11/18. Today found a cruise over Christmas where we can bring the kids along for $200 more....... hmmmmmm?? my travel agent said Carnival will decide at time of new booking whether they will transfer the $350 deposit to new booking HELP PLEASE :) I am not canceling just changing ships. I don't want to book if I cannot get that money towards the cruise the week before. Of course I cannot call Carnival since I used a TA.

PS) I DID buy cruise insurance......... which they said they would transfer to other cruise as long as I had a note from dr saying not changing due to medical reason.

Best thing to do is call Carnival and ask.

I changed a cruise I booked via Expedia (from Victory 2/26/15 to Breeze 2/28/15) - they only charged a $25 admin fee, and I did not lose my deposit. No insurance company involved.
