  1. We stayed at the  Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel One Bedroom Suite! 北京富力万丽酒店 in a one bedroom suite. I forgot how to put links here. If you go to my YouTube channel and search, you will be able to find the video.

  2. Apologies, have been busy, hadn't been updating this.  Singapore just celebrated our 54th National Day, on 9th August.

  3. Scoot is wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines.  They are low cost, so don't expect any frills.  And they seem to have had some reliability issues of late, but safety-wise they are not different from other Airlines.  I've flown with Scoot a few times, but not recently.

This video is a flight to Hong Kong from Singapore on Scoot.  Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Scoot has a premium product called ScootBiz.  Think of it like Premium Economy.  This was our experience to Hangzhou, China, also on their Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

  4. The new Jewel @ Changi Airport is quite amazing.  It is in the public area, directly connected to Terminal 1, and also connected to Terminals 2 and 3 via covered footbridges.  Check it out if you have the time!  I made this video when I visited Jewel during a very crowded public holiday.

  5. For those of you who are staying at Fairmont (which is next to City Hall MRT station), do check out the supermarket located at the basement.  Useful place to get stuff.

I was there during a weekend evening.  Plenty of discounted sushi on sale.

In the same complex, there was a MOS burger.  I had the Wagyu Beef burger, which wasn't too bad.

At level 3, there is an air conditioned food court where you can meals at a decent price (by city center standards of course).  Check it out!

  6. Hawker food in Singapore. We have plenty of food centers, called Hawker Centers.

This stall at Whampoa Market serves very good prawn noodles.  I enjoyed it!

This stall at Pek Kio Market sells awesome wan-ton noodles.  Lovely stuff.

Another random video by me - Holland Village!  Somehow this place has many caucasians. Right next to Holland Village MRT station.

  7. There is a relatively new Courtyard by Marriot, which is located at Royal Square, right next to Novena MRT station.  I go there now and then to eat at their semi-buffet for lunch.  A great place to chill!  The views at night must be gorgeous too.

This video was taken at a supermarket at Raffles City.  Raffles City is a shopping complex, connected to City Hall MRT station.  The Fairmont hotel is connected to this place too.  There is a convenient supermarket at the basement.

The Yan Chinese restaurant at City Hall is another great place to have a meal.  We were there for some lunch recently. Best part was that there was an open deck, where you can view the beautiful civic district of Singapore.  In fact, you don't need to eat at this restaurant to go to the viewing deck!  See 1:20 of the video.

This video was made when I took a walk from Capital Tower Singapore, to Tanjong Pagar MRT station.

I wanted to thank you for posting all of the videos which were very helpful.  It's sad that they are no longer there but I was able to view many of them over the past year.

We just returned from a pre and post cruise stay in Singapore and can say that it's one of the most amazing cities we have ever visited.  We stayed two nights pre-cruise at the JW Marriott and one night post -cruise at the Marina Bay Sands.  Both were amazing.  We also came back to Singapore mid-cruise as our 11 day cruise was really two back to back cruises.  So we saw quite a bit of your city (Esplanade, Raffles Long Bar, China Town, Little India, Gardens by the Bay, Merlion, swimming at the Skypark, hawker stalls...), but there's still lots to see.  We will return someday!

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Singapore!

  9. Thanks for the comparisons!

Alcohol in Singapore is very expensive because the taxes are high.

However, you can get duty free alcohol when you arrive at Changi Airport.

On the topic of Hainanese Chicken Rice, Iluvcruising2, as a local point of view, is there an outstanding place that you think is the best in Singapore? We have tried Ah Tai and Tian Tian, they were both very good but quite similar, IMHO. Are we missing anything that maybe we should try next time in Singapore?

I don't have a personal favourite.  They are more similar. Maybe I am easy to please.

  11. Some food videos.  We are well known for our hawker culture, and the Hainanese Chicken Rice is one of our staples.

This is what it looks like.

Another version, from a different stall.

    Yet another version.

According to the UK BBC, this dish is worth a 15 hour flight - http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20151105-the-singapore-dish-worth-a-15-hour-flight

"Born out of frugality, Hainanese chicken rice – one of Singapore’s national dishes – may seem simple. But it’s the kind of dish you’d cross continents to eat."

I've even tried Chicken Rice on board Singapore Airlines, just for the fun of it.  But it definitely tasted better on the ground.

About the MRT, we did something different this time around. While we stood there in front of the ticket machine, looking confused, a staff came over and asked if we needed help. She suggested that instead of getting the one-day pass, we should consider getting the EZlink. The cost for each ride is almost like half price of paying individually for each trip (a chart showing the difference was posted) and better value than the one-day pass. There is a service/deposit charge but she said it is still worth it. The card is valid for five years and you can top it off if money on the card is running low. I am pretty sure we would be going back to Singapore within the next five years.

You are right.  Even if you are not coming back to Singapore, it is still worth getting the EZ-Link card because the fares are much cheaper than the one-way fares if you have to buy individual fares from the machine.

The non-refundable cost of the EZ-Link card is only $5SGD, or $3.7USD thereabouts. The card lasts for 5 years.  Take it as a souvenir if you are not coming back again.  With the EZ Link card, you can preload the card at a machine with some money, and it makes taking the MRT and the buses (if you wish to) so much easier.  That's what we locals do.

We are two full days in Singapore prior to our cruise.  Our hotel is the Oasia downtown which is very near an mrt station. This forum has really helped us too know what there is to see and do.  Would we be best to book a tour or two, or just see the sights on our own.  Any tour suggestions?

Oasia Downtown is just next to Tanjong Pagar MRT on the East-West line.

You are very centrally located.  Very easy to get around from there.

In fact, when I go to Tanjong Pagar, it is usually to attend some business meeting as you are almost right in the Central Business District Area.

One stop eastwards brings you to Raffles Place interchange, and then City Hall interchange.  You can connect to the North-South line at these stations.  Go northwards a few stations and you can get to Orchard Road. You can even go southwards to Marina South Pier and walk to Marina Bay Cruise terminal to board your ship, but I wouldn't recommend that since you would have luggage, just take a taxi.  Or if your ship departs from Harbourfront, then the correct MRT station is Harbourfront, on the NorthEast and Circle line.

One stop westwards from Tanjong Pagar, you get to Outram Park, where you can connect to the NorthEast Line, which can bring you to Chinatown.

You can download our MRT map and print it out in advance (or have it on your mobile phone), so that you can refer to the stations.  Anyway, our system is nowhere as complex as say London or Paris, so it is pretty hard to get lost.

How are the prices for a bottle of wine in Singapore to bring on the ship.  Would it be cheaper to pay the ship's prices.

I can't remember the ship's prices, but yes, the prices of wine in Singapore are not low, primarily due to high liquor taxes.

If you are arriving at Changi Airport, you may want to check out the duty free wines at DFS (which is near the baggage claim area) to get some bottles, that would help save on some taxes.  These days when I return from overseas trips, I buy whiskey lol.  This is what a DFS store looks like, this one at Terminal 3.  The chart shows you the allowances (assuming you are arriving from outside Malaysia), per adult.

The early part of your video is no longer correct.  The only taxis at the exit door area are the fixed price White Limo taxis with fixed prices up to 3 times a regular metered taxi.  To get to the regular Singapore taxis - walk past the bus / coach park & there is a controled rank for metered taxis.

Thanks. Looks like I should go back to make an updated video.

Hi, would you mind if I asked you what you think about having a 10:30am flight out of Singapore on a Friday? we would be arriving on the Crystal Symphony and the flight would be to Doha on Qatar?

What time is the ship scheduled to arrive?

  17. Good evening and hope you have had a great 2019 so far.

I am starting a new thread entitled 'Singapore - Videos of my Country Ver 2'. There was an original thread, but I figured it has been rendered quite unusable because after the change in forum programming, many of my videos are now not clickable. So, in order to make this thread useful, I will start a new one.  If you are cruising to Singapore, and you don't want to watch any other videos I have made, at least watch the following.

First is Marina Bay Cruise Terminal.  All the large ships have to dock here because the other Singapore Cruise Terminal at Harbourfront is too small.

However, if you are sailing on a smaller ship, your ship may still end up docking at the Harboufront Terminal.  Some videos of that terminal here.

    And here.

View of a Japanese ship docked at Harbourfront.

  18. Taxi scams!  Terrible.  That's why it pays to do some research and surf these boards.

Some years back, I purposely went to Marina Bay Cruise Center to make a video to help cruise passengers who haven't been to Singapore before.  Here it is again. When you disembark, you arrive at the Arrivals Hall.  Follow the signs to Taxi.  It is about a 3 to 5 minute walk to the taxi stands.  Legal taxis are all metered in Singapore and they have to go by the meter, by law.

I made the above video in 2015, but I haven't been back to the cruise center since.  If things have changed, let me know!
