  1. I have read thru most of this thread and have enjoyed it very much. I am thinking about booking the Liberty for my family for next spring break! This just makes me even more excited and anxious to go ahead with the booking! :)

If their spring break is the March 25, 2013 sailing we have already started a roll call, come on over :D

  2. Unfortunately, both times we've been on the Freedom we've had sick kids (DH and I were fine). Of course the last time was because of the "microburst" we encountered the first evening and everyone was getting sick. But the first time we were on it, through the night and the first morning it was moving quite a bit, and all three of our boys got sick because we were rocking so much from being in the very front.

sorry to hear you guys got sick from a bug going around...I am hoping our kids will be OK. On our last cruise, DH and I could feel the movement at times but the kids didn't seem to notice at all, even at the putt putt course. I will just take my trusty drops for behind the ear and their dramamine JIC..

  3. We were in 8200 which I believe is very similar when we were on the Freedom in 2007. It was nice and big and the kids sleeping area had a door and we also had a door in the main bedroom. I would definitely book a FO on the 8th floor again. (our past cruise on the Freedom {the one that hit the bad weather} we opted for two connecting rooms instead of a Family Ocean View).

I booked 8200 on FOS for October 2012 and I was worried about the VERY front. We have always midship balconies so for us this is a giant leap, to the front and no balcony . Really worried about the waters crossing over into the Eastern Caribbean EEKS

  4. Bad analogy... the kids have their own pool and club. So they have the same equivelants. I'm not going and playing the spalsh zone and I'm not attending the camp activities and playing with their video games. So they have things are designated kids only just like the adults have a pool that is designated adults only.

RCI has clearly decided that some things are kids or adult only. The breakfast is not one of them despite what all of these self entitled parents seem to think. Cartoon Character does not equal adult only and I think that's evident by the number of adults that want to and do sign up for this event.

I don't think it was a bad analogy at all, unless you missed my entire point, being noone is more entitled to a certain activity than another, however adults should be adult and let the kids have the first chance to book things such as character breakfast. Adults are always pushing the kids not allowed in the adult only area, bars, clubs so the only place they actually have that is just there's is the Kid's club, which is only open certain hours. You COULD use the splash pad but choose not to so you do the numbers. Not saying adults shouldn't attend, but don't think they should be booking AS SOON as booking is allowed. JMO but if I didn't have kids you wouldn't find me there, I'd rather be getting a mimosa by the pool :p

  5. This is a very important subject for me, as I have 3 kids ages 4, 4 and 8 when we sail.

First, I would not want my child in the CL during happy hour so why not let them visit the kids club instead while mom and dad get some adult time as long as RCCL made it where the kids club is OPEN during cocktail hour:D

Second, I would be one mad mommy if my kids missed the breakfast because an adult wanted the spot! I understand you pay the same rate, it was available, so you booked it BUT does this mean I can bring my child to the adult only pool because I pay the same rate for them as you do as an adult?? No sooo you should be as considerate and let the children have first dibs at the character breakfast bookings, this is just part of being an adult.

Third and last LOL, face painting is loved by everyone. This is a true example of that fun new video game, everybody wants to play. I don't know if RCCL does this or not, but why not also offer facing painting a couple of nights in the kids club as an activity? The cruise we just finished did this and my kids LOVED it. My twins got it done 2X and my oldest DD (8) missed it with her group and she was very upset. This would allow all children who really wanted to do it the opportunity, and parents a reason not to feel guilty about saying "do you really want to wait in that line" because they always have another chance in the kids club.

Sorry so long but the more I typed the longer it got.

  6. Helipad- The view was nice but it was VERY windy! Going around the corner & up the stairs to this area, are strong drafts that pushed me as an adult back. (Just something to consider, since you have smaller kids.) There were not too many people and everyone kind of just took turns in different areas.

Balcony, this is a HARD one. I would have booked one but my budget wouldn't allow it. (My son is growing rapidly and it is getting quite expensive just keeping him clothed & fed! He has grown 2 sizes since August, it is just crazy!!!) I thought that I would just grab a cup of coffee to enjoy on deck but it is NOT easy! They have "to go" coffee on deck 5 but I did not see any "to go" coffee cups in the Windjammer on deck 11, pool area same deck. Also, I never caught a sunrise. I might have, if it was just popping out on the balcony. I did try on Saturday morning. I had a wake up call, tossed on my swimsuit & cover up, washed my face, combed my hair, brushed my teeth. Went to the pool deck and (Dang it!!!) it was too cloudy. I made the best of it though and enjoyed an empty hot tub with my honey instead. Now, whew, having said all that...I still had an awesome trip! There is a TON to do and see. If you keep your OV, just know that it will be another NEW type of cruise. I hope this helps and have not made it harder.

Thanks for the info..we always order coffee thru room service so I won't be looking for it to go so that should be OK..guess I'll just have to look through my window while drinking the AM joe. We will probably end up keeping our OV because we would either have to A) get a suite to get balcony room for all of us (kids are to young for their own room IMO) or B) change to the Allure/Oasis, lose my $100 OBC and pay like $5400 for the family balcony . If we are lucky we will get a price drop on the suites and will upgrade but not very likely because I just don't want to spend the $$$ for a suite.

  7. Just finished reading your review and I have a question for you...as you could tell from reading my "review" we have never sailed without a balcony and I am going completely nuts over it . We are booked in the family Ocean view cabin 8200 and it overlooks the helipad. I noticed you guys did sail away from that location and was wondering how the view was from there, I can't find any pics showing the view from our booked cabin. Also, considering the ship, do you think we will REALLY miss our balcony? I keep telling myself there is so much more to see/do than on the Imagination we will be to busy to miss it. We only really use the balcony for morning coffee, watching the sunrise and sailing into/out of port. My kids will be 8, 4 and 4 (boys will be 3 weeks shy of 5) at time of sailing so hoping not to miss the balcony in the mornings, really love having my coffee their before waking the kids . Great review and your family is so CUUUTE

  8. Where you are dropped off is about at the Northernmost part of the island. The Southernmost Point is, well, you know. ;) It's about a 1.3 mile walk straight down Whitehead St. It really is a nice walk, but whether that's too much with a stroller is up to you.

1.3 miles isn't too bad of a walk, it will be next month so maybe temps will be nice. The stroller is not an issue either, I actually dread the day I can travel without it because even when kids don't use it I can put my bags in the seat..wonder if I would get strange looks pushing a stroller with teenagers with me

  9. Just a question...if we port in the mole and have to take the "shuttle" trolly into town can we just walk to the southern point? I ask because we will have a double stroller with us and we port at 7AM and the city trolly doesn't operate until 9:30. I would "assume" we could walk to the southern point before the 1st trolly ever arrives (thinking crowd control here). I have read not much, if anything, is open at 7 so thinking we could walk directly to southern point then make a leisurely walk back toward port after merchants open?

  10. Does anyone have any idea about U114 on Imagination? It is a grand suite next to the elevators. We have 3 small children (7, 3 and 3) and thought being close to the elevator would be easier with them and stroller. We have stayed in a grand suite before but not close to the elevator (and without kids)..

  11. During this time, my lovely wife takes a trip down to our room with some of the luggage. Normally, the whole family would enter the hotel room or cabin, and no one is allowed to touch anything. The kids and I stand in the room until my wife “clears” the chair or couch. Once the chair or couch are declared bed-bug free and a reasonable level of clean, the kids sit down and wait while the rest of the room is cleared. During this time, I’m dragging luggage into the room and also trying not to touch anything.

LOL I love ur wife's style. DH is always ordered to keep our kids and luggage out of the room until I have flipped and looked under each matress, side table, chairs and any removable art work from the wall. At Disney world he kind of gets embarassed when i asked the porters to just sit our luggage outside the door:D
