  1. I have had both inside cabins as well as verandah cabins.

For a seven day Fantasy cruise, I would definitely go for the verandah. There is something special about a verandah on the Disney Dream and Fantasy cruise.

You will definitely enjoy your cruise more with a verandah cabin. It is nice to have a drink, coffee or room service in your cabin.

Being in an inside cabin can get boring and sometimes you may feel forced to get out of your cabin. The verandah cabin feels so much more open and inviting.

  2. Wonderful:D

thank you - I'm guessing that means we won't see these types of posts anymore? http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2088361&highlight=noordam+threadbare+carpet

    that would be great.

I'm happy to join in on the goal to eliminate relentless posts that accomplish nothing on the boards:D

    Smooth seas.

Thank you for pointing out that a number of posters were none to kind to me in that thread. Then when I responded in kind, you all ganged up on me. Then a number of you got your feelings hurt when I pointed out your bad behavior.

This is an example of why we need a kinder, gentler Holland America Cruise Line forum.

I am glad you have seen the light and are now ready to take the pledge to make the Holland America Cruise Line forum a kinder, gentler place. Thank you for your cooperation.

We gladly welcome you and others to the kinder, gentler Holland America Cruise Line forum.

  3. I just looked at the posters that took the pledge. It is nice to see posters that have less than a thousand posts take the pledge. Most have only 200 to 300 posts that have taken the pledge.

It shows me that your words are measured and thoughtful. Thank you for being so kind and supportive.

Thank you for taking the pledge with me to make the Holland America Cruise Line forum a kinder, gentler place.

I believe our niceness and courteous can make a difference!

We can't change everyone's mind, but at least we can be nice and courteous to each other and those who want to join us.

  5. I just noticed you posted the same threadgentlern the Disney Forum. They aren't kind and gentle there?

Did you put it on other boards?

The Disney Cruise Line forum has really benefited from the new kinder, genter pledge.

We are hoping it works just as well on the kinder, gentler Holland America Cruise Line forum.

Please join us and take the pledge to make the Holland America Cruise Line forum a kinder, gentler place.

  6. I think it should be common for those to post with respect for others. Differing opinions are common and one of the best parts of the forums, to get the various viewpoints.. We should all be mature enough not to attack each other. I'm thinking those that don't want to agree might not care how their posts affect others. Just my viewpoint. This is not pointing to anyone in particular. Happy posting.

    Very well said.

Welcome to the kinder, gentler Holland America Cruise Line forum.

  7. Sorry, not me. I won't attack you personally, but my opinion might differ with yours. Allow me to express my opinion, which might not agree with yours, and you are free to comment. It's called the First Amendment.

I agree with you. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion without being attacked or bullied.

Thank you for agreeing with me. Welcome to the kinder, gentler Holland America Cruise Line forum.

  8. Yeah I wouldn't be signing any checks with that information. Making both sides happy means no balcony smoking so non smokers are happy and designated smoking areas to make smokers happy, but it won't be balconies.

I am the original poster and just passed on what Holland America customer relations passed on to me.

They said that both sides should be happy with what is going to be implemented concerning the smoking situation. I think that should be good news to all.

It's great to be able to make thought out, reasonable suggestions that Holland America takes seriously!

  9. Dear Zorrosuncle,

I am sorry to hear of your troubles.

I think Lisa ( LAFFNVEGAS ) is on the right track. I would take her advice and call the Holland America air department directly to clear things up.

Sometimes when a ticket is not issued, it is in a state of limbo. I think once you talk to the air department and explain what you would like, the problem will be resolved.

    Best of luck!

P.S. to Lisa, great job explaining this

  10. Thanks everyone for helping with my decision. We took the deal and cannot wait to enjoy our aft facing cabin. Our overall price was still low for a 16 day balcony and appreciate that carnival called us as repeat customers. Apparently they needed to free up some sold out inside rooms. All ocean views sold out too. The rep said we could pick any balcony room and I noticed this extended aft view and needed your opinion. I know we will enjoy the fresh air and view and especially the Hawaiian Islands.

I think that you made a great decision. Enjoy your aft extended balcony!

  11. Does DCL have a table service restaurant for breakfast and lunch?

Yes they do. I believe it is offered every day of your cruise except on embarkation day.

I think on the Disney DREAM that it is held in the Royal Palace. Lunch there is really nice and quiet with good views when seated near a window.

Definitely recommend eating breakfast and lunch at the sit down restaurant on your ship.

  12. Can we all make a pledge to create a kinder, gentler Holland America Cruise Line forum?

It would be great to avoid some of the personal attacks and that we make an effort to treat each other with respect.

This same request has been posted on another cruise lines forum and it seems to be working.

It is fine that we disagree on things, and sometimes we need to just agree to disagree and move on.

Hoping that many will take the pledge and follow through in making the Holland America forum a kinder, gentler place.

  13. But the 50.00 is just the upcharge. When I go to a steak house, the cost is usually around 150.00 for 2 people. I would tip around 30 total depending on how the food and service was.

If you leave the main dining room tips in place, which are $8.00 a person and then add $5.00 for PALO. Your total tip amount for the $25.00 PALO meal is $13.00. That is effectively a 52 percent tip.

Tipping $15.00 a person at PALO plus the $8.00 main dining room tips would make it a total of $23.00 in tips. That is effectively a 92 percent tip.

So, people should decide on their own as to what amount is appropriate as a tip.
