The itinerary examples you gave when you said " US cruises do this all the time" are closed loop cruises, which only require a call at any foreign port, so the stops at Mexico and Canada fulfill the requirements. The cruise you're on is not closed loop, and for those cruises the PVSA requires a port call at what is defined as a "distant foreign port". Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama do not qualify as distant foreign ports, but Cartagena does because it's in South America. Without the Cartagena call and no other distant port being on the itinerary for passengers who embarked in Fort Lauderdale and disembark in Los Angeles the cruise will violate the PVSA.

Why then was the 2017-2018 Viking World Cruise not also in violation of the PVSA as it left Miami and disembarked passengers in LA without a stop in South America?

  2. Paul,

Try posting on the Sun roll call for the cruise departing Lisbon on Nov 6th. Maybe someone on that cruise can publish the info and/or a photo. I'm curious also. Good luck.

Thanks for the idea, just posted, will let everyone know if I hear anything from anybody.

  3. We will be on the World Cruise in January and am trying to find some information about the closet in a Penthouse Veranda Stateroom so we can maximize the hanging space.

Are there drawers inside the closet?

If so how high do they rise from the floor of the closet?

And how wide is closet, and also, if there are drawers, how wide is closet from edge of drawers?

    Thanks so much.

    Paul

  4. I was unable to find anything on Viking's website. Does anyone know if 3 people can be accommodated in one cabin?

I remember reading someplace on the Viking site that there can be no more than 2 in a stateroom, there are no connecting staterooms and any passenger under 18 must share a stateroom with an adult

  5. We will be on the Sun next week, but PV room. Hopefully someone can comment next week! But I’ll be available for other questions. [emoji56]

We will sail on the Sun for the World Cruise, also in a PV stateroom. When you do embark on the Sun I would really appreciate knowing how wide is the closet, are there are any drawers in the closet and if so how much width space do the drawers take up.

We will be on the ship for four months and every inch of storage will be close to gold in value, we are thinking of rigging a second hanging bar in the closet and knowing how wide it can be will be great knowledge.

    Thanks so much, Paul

  6. Will be taking another cruise on Celebrity Eclipse next year to Russia/Baltic area. Would anyone recommend the ships excursions? Also what sort of prices are we looking at paying?

Three years ago we used Alla Tours - they were wonderful, much less expensive than ship tours and much much smaller groups. You must use a tour company otherwise you need a visa to get off the ship. They meet you at end of walkway off ships. And no matter what tour you use, if the ship personnel tell you to go somewhere on the ship before you disembark ignore them and walk off - they try to get the passengers using the ship's tour off first, if you wait you will lose valuable time - just go to gangway and leave ship. And when you go through Russian customs leaving and returning to ship expect New York City rudeness on steroids. You will love St. Petersburg!!
