  1. I have been on 6 solo cruises and I have never been flagged by customs. Now and then some passengers will ask me why I cruise alone. My standard answer is because I can, and then I go on to another subject. I belong to a social club that arranges a cruise every year. I prefer solo cruising and I do not go on their cruises. I like meeting new people and having new experiences.

  2. I have done 6 solo cruises on Princess, 3 on the Regal Princess. I did anytime dining on all of them. All my experiences were good. I eat all of my meals in the dining room. I always ask to sit at a large table. I enjoy meeting new people.

  3. I am also on the Regal 2/18. This will be my third time on the Regal and my fifth solo cruise. The best suggestions would be to join into activities that you enjoy and to do anytime dining. I think it is the best way to meet people. My husband and I had been on many cruises and it did feel different cruising solo, but I am very glad I gave it a try. I have found most people (including couples) to be very friendly. They did have solo passengers get together on the ships I have been on, but I did not attend them.

  4. I will be sailing on the Regal Princess on November 1, 2018... Looking to meet friends to share dinners, breakfasts with in day or evening....I know it is kind of difficult eating dinners alone...and was hoping that we can meet up .... also doing some shows...

I have been on many cruises. The last 3 were solo and my next 2 are also solo. Two of them were on the Regal and I will be back on the Regal in February. I met people by joining in activities that I enjoyed and by choosing anytime dining. I was hesitant going solo the first time. I have found most people (including couples) very friendly. You have picked a beautiful ship. Go with a friendly attitude.

  5. I am a solo cruiser and have done 2 partials and finally just got back Saturday from my first full transit. It was 14 days LA to New Orleans on the NCL Pearl. I paid a zero supplement on my second partial transit and on the full transit it was a 50% supplement. I only book cruises after final payment when prices start to come down.

I am also a solo cruiser and I also book cruises after final payment is due. I have been on many cruises, the last 3 were solo. I have 2 more solo cruises planned, one to the Panama Canal (partial) on the Caribbean Princess and an eastern Caribbean on the Regal Princess.

I am elite with Princess and they offer good last minute deals.

  6. I interested in a panama canal cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angelos, but I am a solo cruiser. I have only done one before, a Western Carabean 7 day one with family. I want to go on the Panama one alone though. Any advice and what about the cost going alone? Is it too expensive or are there options?

I just booked a 10 day round trip to the Panama Canal today on the Caribbean Princess for November 30. My total cost was $1270, which included insurance and the $300 canal fee. I booked an interior cabin guarantee. I have been on many cruises and this will be my 4th solo cruise. I have been on several Panama Canal cruises and they have always been very enjoyable. I usually book with Princess directly. I would suggest checking out the cruise lines you are interested in for their sales. Usually the sales appear after final payment is made.

  7. My husband and I cruised almost 100 times. He loved cruising and when he started to have dementia problems I wanted him to be happy so I agreed to cruising. It is not a good idea. Taking care of someone with dementia is overwhelming, especially in a different environment. Your son would be constantly worried about her safety. Your son sounds like a very caring person and he certainly means well. As someone who did it, I do not recommend it.

  8. I just read a thread about the Ruby embarkation and how terrible it was. We were given our time to board for the Aloha deck between 12:30 - 1:30.

How has the embarkation been in Ft. Lauderdale?

I have embarked many times on Princess from Port Everglades. It is usually very efficient. Last year there was a long delay because of a Government inspection. Delays are not always caused by the cruise lines.

  9. I took my first solo cruise on the Island Princess. It was a 11 night cruise and I chose anytime dining. I had almost all my meals in the dining room and I requested a large table every time. It was a positive experience and I enjoyed pleasant conversations with my table mates.

  10. We did this cruise several years ago on RCL. Check out repositioning cruises for September on cruise sites. I think Princess, Celebrity, RCL, Disney and Carnival are offering this cruise in 2015. I would highly recommend this itinerary.

  11. My hubby and I have been on 22 cruises, most on RCCL, and loved cruising very much, fitting in 2 a year in last few years.

My husband has recently passed away and I have an 8-nt. cruise that we had booked a while back on the Explorer Dec. 27th. After reading many posts here, I really want to try sailing solo. I know it'll be sad but it will also bring back a lot of great memories.

My question: should I keep the 8-nt cruise or switch to a 5-night? Those of you with experience with this situation, please let me know if shorter might be better for a first solo cruise.

I know I want to continue cruising, I'm just not sure about this first cruise alone. Thanks for any input and advice you might have.

I am also a recent widow. My husband and I cruised over 65 times mainly with Princess. I booked the Island Princess for 10 days as a solo. I chose anytime dining and ate all my meals in the dining room. I requested a large table each time and I met very nice people and I did not have any negatives. I joined in the trivia games and a few other group activities. At first it was difficult but people were friendly. We had always ended our evenings in a lounge having a drink. I found I could not walk into a lounge in the evening. I would encourage you to go on the 8 night cruise and join in the activites you enjoy. I would cruise solo again.

  12. We are booked on the Royal March 30th in a df guarantee cabin. So far we have not been assigned a cabin. How close to sailing do they assign a cabin and if they wait until the last minute how can you print out your paperwork.

I am booked on the Royal April 6 in a guarantee cabin. Have not received assignment yet. I had the same situation on the Island Princess in December, when I received my cabin assignment the day before the cruise. Just print out your documents. You can receive your assignment at the port. It will not be a problem. Have a wonderful cruise.

  13. I love this thread! I'll be going on my first solo cruise this spring for my birthday this year. I really REALLY want to be on a ship for my birthday and it doesn't look (at least right now) like anyone can join me, so I figured why not go alone? I'll be turning 34 on board and I'm hoping for a fun time.

I was a little worried that a lot of people didn't cruise solo but it's really reassuring to read other people's experiences here with it.

I have been on many cruises and went on my first solo cruise last month. I discovered that a lot of people cruise solo. It was a good experience and I will definitely cruise solo again.

  14. I am booked on an 11 night out of Miami in February. The person I was traveling with is no longer able to go. I have never cruised solo but have traveled extensively for work - a lot of the time alone.

For anyone that has traveled solo and done an 11 night - is there anything I should consider on an 11 night that would make it difficult/awkward to cruise solo compared to say a 7 night?

Curious what I would be in for if I decide to go solo. Any tips would be appreciated!

    thank you in advance!

I recently cruised solo on the Island Princess for ll nights.I have been on over 65 cruises but this was my first solo cruise. I chose anytime dining. I ate in the MDR almost every meal and asked to share a table. I had positive experiences and met many nice people (solo and couples). Most of the conversations were about cruising experiences. There were daily meetings for solo cruisers, which I did not attend. I met a lot of solo cruisers attending activities such as trivia and scrabble. I would cruise solo again. Go with a postive attitude and enjoy your cruise.

  15. Is this a new itinerary for 2014, or has it been done before?

If it was done before on a different ship, I'd be interested in opinions from anyone who has sailed it. Failing that, I'm interested to know if anyone is taking it or thinking about it.

I'm just wondering if the extra time is worth it, since it's pretty much a few extra sea days. I know that's probably a matter of opinion, but I'm interested to hear them. The alternative for us would be a couple of extra days in Vancouver or Seattle following a 7-day.

We did this cruise in 1997 on the Sky Princess and it was a wonderful cruise. We precruised in SF for a few days. The only rough thing I remember was the waters when we left SF until we got to Victoria. I would highly recommend this cruise.
