  1. Having read this thread, that certainly does seem to be the outcome - once you've done one cruise, you want another!

I've read up on the formal nights but I'm still not sure! Don't fancy the tux and ballgown shenanigans but we also wouldn't attend wearing shorts & flip flops - the jury's still out on our doing the "formal" bit!

What ports did you travel to? We are docking at Civitavecchia for Rome and we're not sure whether to go on an excursion (3 hours round trip) as we intend to travel to Rome for a 4 or 5 day city break in the next 6-8 months but maybe would be worth getting a quick overview of the city - really torn on this one!

Hi we have just returned from our first ever cruise - Independence of the seas - Italian Med - and we docked at Civitavecchia for Rome too. I was a a bit apprehensive about the 3 hour round trip that I'd read about too - but its NOT! When you get off ship and the shuttle drops you at the entrance, there are sales girls selling express train tickets - 1/2 hour each way!! This is the same train RCI use!! The train left at 9.30 and took us to The Vatican Station - a guide walks uou to St Marks Square and arranges to meet you again at 4.00 to walk you back to station for 4.30 return! It was so easy!! We got a hop on/off bus to take us around the sights. A really busy day but well worth it!

    :)
