  1. Will be on Vision of the Seas. Does anyone know if they will have a "folklore show"? Thank you for any helpful advise.

We were on Vision last month and there was a Russian Folklore show in the theatre the first night in St Petersburg. The folks in our day tour who stayed on board and went to the show all said they loved it.

It was also broadcast on the TV every hour or so for the following two days in case you missed it (which we had, we had scheduled an evening tour in the city).

  2. We will be visiting Tallin in September and I found that there is a free 2 hour walking tour offered every day (http://www.traveller.ee/tour/tallinn-free-tour) which is open to whomever shows up. The same group offers a private 3 hour tour for a fee. Using my roll call I was able to put together a group of 16 and it will cost us about 9 euro per person. For this nominal amount I feel its worth it to have someone familiar with the area, who can add so much more than a guide book can.

We did this Tallinn Free Tour last month and it was great--one of the best walking tours we've ever done anywhere, hands down. We ended up giving a 15 euro tip for two of us and honestly would have given more if we had any extra cash because the tour guide was super informative and just really funny.

The free tour lasts about 2-2.5 hours and starts at 10, so we had several hours after to get some lunch and explore more on our own.

  3. We just got off the Vision last month and we ended up loving it. I'll add that Vision is pretty much the largest cruise ship I've ever been on, so I literally have no experience with newer, larger ships for comparison.

That said, the size of the ship was great--it's super easy to get around from place to place. We had one of the new floor to ceiling window cabins on deck 8 and even though it was two steps from the Centrum, we didn't have any noise issues and they did Centrum stuff well past midnight.

The storage in the room was plenty for us--two big closets (each had two pull out rails with hangers and a shelf in the middle), a cabinet with three or four shelves on the left end of the desk, and then six drawers under the desk. Our suitcases fit under the bed, so they were out of the way.

The food was good to ok; we didn't try any specialty restaurants. The Park Cafe was probably my favorite dining option, mostly because it was open late and they had a good mix of simple foods and desserts.

The crew and Captain Marek were super nice--they put on several crew based talent shows in the Centrum, which was interesting! Headliner shows were not my favorite--mime, ventriloquist, magician, etc. But seriously...a mime.

  4. @malaprops- I can handle dry mouth. Its a helluva lot better than sea sickness. The cruise I am looking into is a 5 night so i think 2 patches would suffice. I will carry dramamine- i may be immune as they don't make me very sleepy.

Yeah, 2 patches should do it. If you will be flying and also get sick on airplanes (or every single moving vehicle like I do!), you should put the patch on about 4 hours before your flight so you are covered end to end. :)

  5. The patch works wonders for motion sickness and lasts for three days. There are some side effects that you may experience (for me mostly dry mouth and after wearing the patch for about two weeks, I start getting a bit of blurry vision), but they more than make up for not dealing with the constant state of nausea. If you do feel some motion sickness on the patch, it's not common for me but it can happen, a Dramamine will help, but it will also put me right to sleep.

I've been on two cruises before (Antarctica and Alaska) and I'm going to the Baltics next week. The patch isn't perfect, but it can take care of the bulk of your motion sickness symptoms.
