  1. We have a boarding time of 14.30 but Ned to be out of the hotel by 12. Will have 2 over excited kids and 4 big suitcases so will just have to sit and wait.

Would it be wrong to open a bottle in the holding area?[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

You can ask the hotel reception about holding the luggage till a convenient time for you to get a taxi for boarding. This way you can see a bit of the town before boarding.

  2. It costs $14.00 per person if you go to the real USA site not the one someone has posted the link too! I have done it 2 or 3 times for us both does not take long and is really quite easy.

This last one the Travel agent offered to do it for me, made it even simpler ;)

  3. My husband wears a dark navy blazer and either grey or black pants a white shirt and a regular tie for formal nights we have eaten in the Britannia on formal nights, dark pants , and we have never been "looked at". We go to the shows and quite often there are people there in shirtsleeves.

As you can see we have been on Cunard quite a few times. I can assure you, you will not stand out.

Last year I saw someone with a backpack on all the time, thats why he stood out, and I noticed he seemed to be in the same clothes everytime I saw him and very scruffy, and they did not thow him over the side:)

Honestly its like a small town there are all sorts there, Enjoy. We will next week

Pack him a sweater to wear under the dark jacket for Ireland and you will be all set

  4. We have been on QV the last 2 years Nov/ Dec and it was rough funnily enough not in the Bay of Biscay, we are going on QE for Xmas to Canaries and yes it will be rough in parts but that is cruising!

Couple of suggestions if you have difficulty walking choose a cabin close to the lift. I f you get travel sick start taking whichever ones you get 24 hours before the cruise and then all through the cruise if the weather is bad. I cannot travel in the backseat of a car unless I take a pill and I can stand the rough seas if I keep up my pill and a breath of frresh air when I need it. We were on QM2 Dec/Jan now that was realy rough and have two coming up ;)

  5. Some people leave the tips in place....

Some people leave the tips in place AND tip extra....

    Some people remove the tips...

    Some people adjust the tips.....

I will never forget one steward when we handed over a decent tip on the last night, barely could say thank you. He brought out a wallet which was bursting with notes and I mean bursting. Next morning never acknowledged us .....it did leave a sour taste in the mouth but I know everyone is different. It can happen that the obliging steward during the cruise suddenly changes after tips are received which I know has also happened to other guests as I have seen it mentioned on the boards from time to time. Other stewards can be very different and very grateful. .

I always ask my steward about his family one was so proud of his little princess

just over a year old showed me a photo I had my bling, such as it is, with me obviously! remembered a pair of tiny gold and pearl earings so made sure I cleaned them put them in a box and lft them on the bed with a note "for your little princess" and signed it for his security. He was very touched.

sometimes will bring back a small tourist type gift or even a candybar and leave it with a note of thanks if we know he/ she will not be going ashore that day or even trip. 1st time contracts can't go ashore at some ports.

  6. The on board credit goes a long way towards the gratuaties on most of our cruises and $11 a day for the wonderful service you get, most of the trip. I never begrudge and if I want to tip someone extra that is my choice. When you see someone cleaning anywhere on the ship you don't have to wonder are they making, for them, enough to achieve what is important to them, looking after their family back home. Pay and enjoy is my philosophy

  7. At the link mentioned above, click through to the PDF application. There it says, "UK: Appropriate proof of service issued by the MOD."

    Whatever that might be. :)

Followed the instructions downloaded the MOD form sent both off Navy for hubby RAF for me got them back phoned cunard lady told me she had put the credit on for each but have to show the proof to the purser, so assume all will be well, and I remembered my entire # See we were on the same christmas cruise might

even have sat at the same table.

  8. FYI, the chemical name for Bonine is meclizine, and it seems to be available in the UK under a variety of names: Ancolan (Boots); Antivert (Pfizer); Bonamine (Pfizer); Bonine (Insight); Calmonal (BMS); Peremesin (BMS); Postafen (UCB).

    Thank you have noted info🌸🌸

  9. Although I have used one of the limos before there was just 2 of us. When I travel in August there will be 4 passengers + luggage. (one suitcase each). Does anyone know if there is room for 4?

We have used dial 7 quite a few times. If you book on line or on the phone they ask how many passengers and how many bags. Once I said 2 people 4 bags meaning 2 cases and 2 carryon sizes and they sent a people carrier style limo and the driver said next time just say 2 bags. The drivers are really nice and helpfull. Another time we left Time Sq area on a Sunday and when we got to the ship, less time than normal that driver said the quote too much so He shaved a bit off! Its nice to get into the car and know what is going to cost before you start.

  10. As a person who gets travel sick I choose my cabin and NO upgrade.

I would suggest you get some travel pills from the chemist, UK seem to only have ones that you need 2/3 a day, take the 1st ones 24 hours before sailing and then keep them going, unless the sea is not heavy.

This tip was given me a few years ago and I follow it every time and I can get sick in a car or bus. The best though is the fresh air if you feel it a bit get a good gulp of freshers. Have a good sail.

when we get to NY I put a chemists on my list of to dos and get Bonnine supply of they are 24 hr ones then hope they will do until the next trip

  11. The Buffet in the evening , as some like to call it,is not at all what you may be thinking.on QM withthe remastering it is to have a total upgrade and more of a table service. We find the food in the Lido E&V and Kings Court QM2 in some ways superior to the preplated in the main restaurant it is freshly cooked and if you talk to the serving chefs you can get almost anything you fancy if you do not like the menu. We were on 26 nights over Xmas and only ate in Britania twice, in the evening. We ate in alternative some evenings not at all if we had eaten too much earlier then maybe a late snack.

That said I love Britania for breakfast and lunch if I can fit it in time wise

Never managed to fit in the pub lunch, time wise, which some say is great.

If you get assigned an early seating and dont want to eat that early the MD would change you to later in an instant as many more want early.

  12. You might find many answers to your questions over on the Seabourn Board. I know a lady who has lived onboard Seabourn for years......When the ship goes in for a refit or occasionally chartered , she moves over to another ship in the fleet. ;)

When we were on Seabourn in 2012 there was a lady Mrs W was the name the crew mentioned. She had her " own" chair up in the front lounge/ bar, can't remember its name! No one else could sit in it! One evening when the seas we horendous we saw her being gently escorted back " home" by two crew members one on each arm.

  13. What is the latest time you can self disembark at Southampton? We won't have a lot of luggage but have no pressing need to be off extra early.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

If you are desiganated self disembark you can go at any time just join the queue

  14. My understanding of Cunards shuttle policy is

If it is "safety wise" safe a shuttle is not provided. i.e. In a working dock would not be safe

Endinburgh you just get off into the village and then you are on your own.

In the personiser you can download a pdf of all the ports , very usefull

  15. Time did she get into Quebec City? We are on her in Oct.

Our daughter is meeting us there for the couple of days we are treating her to a night in the Chateau Frontenac, cost more than a few nights on QM2 !

People have told me this is a lovely cruise and have been wanting it for a few years. I must sign in to the roll call.

  16. One of the things we love about our cruise is to go back to the cabin in the late evening and ring for tea. i like cranberry rashberry and hubby likes proper tea we order 2 pots of hot water and the tea. We get great enjoyment every evening waiting to see what arrives, having picked up spare tea bags earlier in the day it does not matter. Pop the bags in the hot insulated pot and lovely tea. By the way we just let the ice bucket get filled every day and replenish the water jug that we have had delivered with the tea, getting a new jug every few days.

But then we live on board as we do everywhere we go Adapting to the current circumstances we just like cruising and enjoy it all.

  17. The quiz last a little less than 30 mins every evening If you are a serious quizer you might be disappointed its a time filler not a serious quiz. We like a good quiz night couple of hours if thats your baliwick then missing the quiz to fit in something else should not be a problem we have done approx 1/2 doz Cunard trips/cruises and have only ever done 2 quizs. Have a good time😀

  18. Following the self-torture of looking at cruises when I'm not in position to book anything, I've seen two voyages that appeal (hopeful we will be able to do something later in the year).

First one is the Xmas Caribbean trip on the QM2, the second is on the Queen Elizabeth to San Francisco in January/February. I think this is the first segment of the world cruise. TA is offering 3 nights in San Francisco and a tour of Napa Valley.

Both appeal, especially as we've not sailed on the Elizabeth before, but I realise that it will be cold. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Did this trip this last Christmas the Transatlantic bits were great the Carribean bit was awfull, hoards of uncouth passengers boarded in NY even my husband who does not notice much could not believe their behaviour. Passengers screaming at staff, tables groaning with food then left like a pigty, I am not kidding Never again.

we have booked Christmas on Elizabeth Canaries for 2016.

As for which is best We have been on all 3 and they all have pros and cons, but whichever you choose ship wise you will not be dissapointed.

Just read your bit on the Breakaway, all the people I spoke to who had done the split and gone on the NCL Line said it was not a good experience!

Oh by the way we had force 12 seas/weather and I came down the stairs to Deck 2 and as I turned the corner caught sight of the sea going past those great big windows boy were we traveling 23 knotts apparently it was amazing seeing the speed we were going

  19. There is one cycle that most of the machines are set at that takes approx 45 mins but say 40 the washing machine cannot be opened untill it has finished. I think instructions are posted on the wall, Never seen any of the horror stories and I have used the machines a lot. Sometimes you are lucky and can get a machine and other times its busy, just like anything else in life.

I like to do my wash keeps me in realality esp on a long trip. 🌺

  20. If the weather is REALLY bad they will close it for safety!!

Tip for planatarium if you do not get tickets they go quickly

Go down and wait outside the planitarium 5 or 10 mins before it starts, as many get a ticket and then dont use it!

Like my hubby he got us tickts for the 1st showing luckily He gave me mine and we were to meet, he was late I saw the show and he saw the second one as the girl told him some do not come and if there is room she lets you in at last min.

I have been twice one I did not enjoy but this time I could see why people say its great.

  21. Sheltered was on QM2 in Dec And Jan I like a balcony even if I never sit on it just like to be able to open a door.

In bad weather, we had bad, The decks were closed off for the majority of the trip

Walking along deck 11 was very noisy wind and quite awkward and bumpy to walk.

Felt sorry for all those people paying Grills

We were on 4 and even then sometimes it could be dangerous for some who were not very agile, having said that its still great.

If you suffer travel sickness then also low and Bonnine in yor tummy
