  1. You'll love it! I'd recommend seeing if there's anything going on at The Convention Center the morning you're going. Traffic was hell when we dropped them off because there was some big event going on. When we went a week later though to pick them up there was no traffic at all. I think it might be just hit and miss with the New Orleans port. Just be mindful!

    Thanks for the heads up!

  2. On John Healds recent video on his Facebook, he said that the pastries on cake stands on top of the counter at the coffee bar are free..I believe he said only in the mornings. I seen croissants, some sort of fruit filled danish and cinnamon rolls.

    hope this helps

Thanks! I never knew these were free there. Always wondered why they had the same pastries for a charge at coffee shop that were offered on lido or from room service at breakfast.

  3. How sweet of you to do something so nice for a friend :)

We enjoy cruising and have only sailed CCL. If it's inferior to the rest, I wouldn't know.

I can tell you we've never had a bad time. The shows are typical, Vegas style and, though some are better than others, they all make us smile. The comedy club is something we really enjoy and playing trivia after having a couple of drinks in always entertaining!

I'm not a casino goer so I can't speak to that, but it's never hard for us to find something entertaining to do.

I know you'll have a great time! I'll be waiting to hear about your trip when you get home. :)

  4. I see this was mentioned, but I wanted to expand:

We always use cash for our S&S account. Before boarding, while getting your S&S card, they will ask you how you're setting up your account. Simply hand them the amount you want to add. If at any time during your cruise you spend it all, you can go to guest services and A.) give them more cash or B.) give them a card for the balance at the end. We have done this on all 7 cruises and have never incurred a hold on our card.

We do still inform our bank that we will be out of the country just in case of emergency need for our card while in port.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  5. We stayed in a spa cabin on Magic in 2013 and had a great time! We leave for the Dream in 10 days and have booked a spa balcony on this as well.

It gives you access to the spa steam rooms and thalasso pool. The other "perks" and definitely not worth it imo (unless you plan to book 2 or more spa treatments of port days, the extras include hotel-size shampoo and conditioner in the room, some slippers and different robes) However, if you can book a regular cabin near the edge of the spa cabins and pay the weekly spa pass price for less than the spa cabin, you may want to do that.

  6. Check your S&S account, issues with S&S card (last cruise I lost one and the 2nd stopped swiping), get a free deck of cards, get envelopes for tipping on last night of cruise, close out your account... Seems like we were there a lot more than I thought! Never had to wait in line though with FTTF.

  7. I've been in a cove balcony once and standard balcony many times. For the view I absolutely recommend the cove balcony. There's something amazing about being so close to the water.

However, with littles, you may want a regular balcony because they will be able to see through the glass and not try to see up and over the rail as much.

For convenience, lido would outweigh the view for me. With kids playing at the pool it's a 2 minute trip for mom to grab a forgotten item from the stateroom while dad stays with the kids. Cove balcony is a 10 minute trip every time!

    Hope this helps :)

  8. Is there a certain time of day or night I should be checking or is it just random? I'm getting obsessed with checking for FTTF!!! LOL!!! If I don't get it its no big deal! I'm going to have a very fun filled cruise with FTTF or without it!!! Hurry up Hurry up Hurry up!!! :)

I've purchased FTTF three times in the past: one about 6am, the second about 1:30pm and the last about 8pm. I think Carnival offers FTTF with no rhyme or reason, honestly. As you get closer to sail date check in multiple times a day. I've always booked in the last 2 weeks prior to leaving. Hope this helps!

  9. I have lots of "bests" depending on how I'm feeling!

Shady, peace and quiet watching the ocean go by: deck 3 outside the atrium

Sunny, lots of action: lounger on lido

Sunny, windy and relatively quiet: serenity

But my very best chair: the heated tile loungers in the cloud 9 spa!

  10. For room steward and MDR we always take thank you cards, write a nice note of thanks and put the tip in there on last night. Room steward I tip $10/day, sometimes more if they are stellar. Dining room: $20 for head waiter, $10 to each assistant. I also write thank-yous to my favorite bar tenders and leave them $10-20 each on the last night depending on service (this is in addition to the $1-2 I add per drink throughout cruise). Room service $3-$5 depending on order size.

    Hope this helps!

  11. Holiday Inn Metairie (15 mins from FQ) offers a stay, park and cruise package. For our Dream cruise March 16 we have booked a room here and here's the scoop: $169 for the night, includes two welcome cocktails at the bar, 2 breakfasts in their restaurant, parking for up to 10 days and shuttle to and from cruise port.

I think Country Inn & Suites also has a park and cruise package.

    Good luck and have fun!!

  12. At 90 days post op you should be past the mushy phase and on to regular foods, but still introducing new foods with caution. The ship is no place to experiment if you want to have a good time! I had a 6-day business trip from Houston to Vegas when I was 5 weeks post-op. I consulted with my NUT and she recommended a list of things to take like: tuna salad, yogurt, deli meat, etc. It went just fine.

I took my first cruise at 120 days post-sleeve. I had no problems at all! The buffet, burrito bar and Mongolian were the best food option, as I could choose exactly what I wanted and how much. They offer multiple lean protein options, grilled veggies and fresh fruits.

Breakfast: omelet with ham and veggies (from breakfast buffet), egg white omelet with toppings (MDR), plain yogurt with fruit (buffet), plain oatmeal (buffet).

Lunch: deli meat with cheese roll-ups (made from salad bar), shrimp and guacamole (from burrito bar), meat and veg cooked well done (Mongolian), grilled fish (on buffet every day)

Dinner: same as lunch, generally more protein options on buffet as well.

My suggestion would be to avoid MDR. The food there is rich, delicious and comes in huge potions. It is VERY hard to make good choices in MDR.

Also, if you start feeling like you absolutely have to have dessert, the coffee bar has chocolate covered strawberries and you can buy just one! Make smart choices and you'll do just fine. Enjoy your trip!!
