  1. Had a rather enlightening conversation yesterday with a customs official who informed me that the no "leaving the ship" rule has always been there but not always, enforced. However there have been a couple of recent instances where the " privilege" had been abused( not for discussion) so the call was made to enforce the rule..... Another case of a few spoiling it for the rest . I think the rule will be enforced for the same day embark/ sail but may be "relaxed" for the overnight stay cruises but I cannot say for sure.

    Hi Graham,

Just a question for the next time you talk to your sources in Customs. What is the rule for those doing B2B2B. We are embarking on 7th Feb and dis-embarking 8th March. But at some point when we get back to Sydney I will want to do some washing (nothing against the bag washes RCI do but some things just DON'T go thru those washers at 100deg!!) :o

If in transit pax are not allowed off what are we to do?

Also speaking of washing can you tell me an easy place to get to, to do the washing? Nearest I have found is up near Central Station and don't know what RCI and Customs etc will think me lugging a backpack full of dirty clothes off the ship!

  2. Hi all

Did you know that Radiance has 3 Interior Studio Cabins for singles?

    According to a thread I read on the US-RCI site, they are cabins 4583, 4585 & 4587.

    Here's the thread! http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=41206653

    Who knew?

    Gae

I asked onboard about these last year when we booked this years cruise and was told that they are currently been used for crew, I was looking to book one of them for a weekender cruise.

I hope this has changed and that more Single cabins become available as I would love to cruise more if these type of cabins were available.

  3. Thanks for the information about the Optrex spray, I'll give it a try.

It's also interesting about the water too. That one isn't so easy, don't know how I can avoid the ship's water. If its the water, both my experiences were on Carnival ships - different ones - don't know if that is significant.

I use the Optrex for Dry eyes everyday as I am in Aircon Offices all day, and I use is over my Makeup with no worries no running Mascara or makeup in eyes. Works great! :D just a little expensive for a little bottle!

I’m going to continue the review here in a second, but at this point in the narrative, I have to insert a true confession. Are you ready? Are you sitting down?

Okay. Deep breath. Here it is:

I have the World’s Worst Camera Karma.

It all began on a vacation when I was 15 years old to Philadelphia, and while I was exuberantly running up the famous “Rocky” steps, I accidentally dropped our one and only family camera – shattering it, and the film (remember that?) to bits. My parents have never let me live that one down. That story will still be told when I’m 95 years old and couldn’t tell you who “Rocky” even was and why was he on the darn steps.

It continued in 2008 while I was on a 3-week mission trip to Hawaii, where I was helping to build a camp for disabled children. During the three weeks, I had amassed over 3,000 photos on my Nikon D50 camera…and one night, while reviewing my photos on the camera, a message popped up that said, “Would you like to reformat your memory card?”

I’d never seen that before, and figured, “What’s the harm in that?” And so I said, “Yes.”

You know where this is going, don’t you?

In the blink of a nanosecond, 3,000 photos that had captured not only the spirit of Hawaii, but of our efforts there, went POOF. Gone with the Wind. Nada.

    :eek::eek:

And my Bad Camera Karma continued on this cruise. In the first place, I’d had to go buy a camera at the last minute before cruising – as I didn’t have one with me in Florida. I had my iPhone, but I wanted something that wouldn’t lose it’s battery one minute after turning it on…which drives me CRAZY, by the way. Anyway, I struggled with that camera ALL week…and I would use it one day, use my iPhone the next, while trying to capture photos from the ship.

I thought I had managed to figure it all out…but for some very mysterious reason…all the photos that I took the rest of this day – Day #4 – have mysteriously disappeared.

    Thud.gif

Poof. Gone with the Wind. Nada. But – ONLY for this day. I still have all the other photos.

    Is that weird???

So…I’m going to go ahead and continue, and tell you about a neat tour I did on the ship that afternoon, as well as my dinner at Izumi, but I don’t have any photos.

    :o

They are now floating somewhere in Camera Cyberspace, joining all those photos from Hawaii five years ago.

Oh Sherri I feel your pain I too am one of those who has done the same.

Having just returned from Radiance of the seas here are some photos of Izumi for you. The same (I think for the first course) that you had but now have no photographic proof.

We did the Royal Dining Package and had a credit of $20 (I think) we did a package @ Izumi that cost us $2 more than our credit.

I have no idea how to put in full sized images so if you want full sized ones let me know.

  5. Ship - Radiance of the Seas

    Deck -9

    Stateroom # -9026

    Stateroom Category – E1 Balcony

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Very quiet

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes, but no noise at all from neighbours

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue – Perfect view forward, aft (up to the hump) and straight down to the water

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - Not aft

Any specific problems with this cabin? - Only issue if it bothers you is that it is right by the lift. no noise at all, but when your door is open people getting out of the lift or coming down the stairs can see straight into y our cabin. Didn't bother us at all.

Any other comments? - Great cabin, very convenient as right by lifts and stairs

Could you possibly post an image of this cabin - I would like to look at a connecting cabin for this class/room.

  6. Hi Sherri,

I have just spent the past 2 days reading all your reviews under your Signature and all I can say is WOW!

They all felt as if I was there, doing a Med cruise is on the Bucket list and I am currently trying to convince the Cruise Buddies to do a Caribbean cruise and I hope to show them your review in 2 weeks when we embark on Radiance for our Annual Cruise this time "over the ditch" to New Zealand.

I LOVE the idea of Freestyle coke machines that you all have over there they haven't reached the ships 'Down Under' yet but I hope they will be here next year if they are doing them fleetwide by the end of this year!

I love Cherry Coke and Mello Yello but here in Oz they just don't seem to get that there are MANY other flavours around to try and I too am a lover of Diet Dr Pepper! and it's not a brand sold in Oz :(

I do have one request if you happen to have a photo of your Cabin Crawl on your Med Cruise of a Connecting Cabin (with balcony if possible), we have one this trip and I have trawled CC trying to find one but can't seem to.

I didn't know that Rita's Cantina had a 2 hr feast that you could book will have to look into that this trip as we loved the food and the Margarita's!

I look forward to reading the rest of this great review and learning more about Allure.

  7. I too use Avomine for all my Cruises and as everyone else says take one a couple of days before leaving and then one at night for a couple of nights for the first couple of days unless rough seas (if it has white caps it's rough).

Have tried Travelcalm and Kwells but both of them left me with a dry scratchy throat all the time I thought I was coming down with a cold.

Avomine is a only available by asking the Chemist for them (just like you would do when asking for extra strength pain relief like Panedine Extra or Cold tablets with Antihistamine in them).

I also use them when travelling by car for long periods of time or on particularly curvy roads.
