  1. We have also done your cruise.

The menus were different for the most part -- changed a few items here and there -- different sauces.

The production shows were the same each week. One week is the Indonesian show and the other week is the Filipino show. Sometimes the magician, etc. will change. At least once each week the BB King group will play in the show lounge.

In March on the Nieuw Amsterdam the BB King group did not have a show in the main theatre, only in the Queen's Lounge.....there was a great steel band that I hope you get to see !!

  2. holland america : bread pudding and the breakfasts in the dining room

( especially eggs benedict but make with salmon ! ) also dive-in rare burgers

carnival : some ships have the separate upstairs with the seafood at lunch !

princess : delicious pizza at alfredo's .. and the great picky foods at the international cafe

    yum

  3. On a very recent cruise with HAL a large percentage of people kept their fancier clothes on for the evening on formal night...some change right after they have dinner.

You can see a show at the theater and see everything from t-shirts and flip-flops to tuxedos !!

  4. we were unhappy with the Tamarind on our recent Eurodam cruise...we also went away hungry and dissapointed in both the service and the food.. the food was much too spicy and we were never even offered coffee or tea

the dive-in has great burgers and fries..we got the buzzer, but I always asked how long it would be and that was a great help and pretty accurate.

cooked just the way you want them, too !!

  5. Even before the dry dock, the mexican section was part of the buffet and not out by the pool.

In the salad area the big slow down was people taking their own dressing.. they were in bottles that were a little difficult to handle and not well marked.

It is too bad that some of the specialty salads are gone, and the area between the stations had great chunks of cheese and fruit

The deli area already had pre-made sandwiches but also a person to make what you wanted .. it was never crowded on 2 recent cruises.

Always some good and bad changes I guess.

  6. on the nieuw amsterdam in the middle of March, happy hour was every day from 4 to 5 at the upstairs bar (Ocean Bar ?)next to the Explorer's Lounge...it was crowded and lively, but not too crowded to get drinks and we even opted to go the little cafe to get a snack to go with the drinks.

my only complaint was not having music up there....but a fantastic view with great comfy chairs and delicious mojitos!!:)

  7. envy4u,

we got off the nieuw amsterdam a few weeks ago.

we were happy with the food...dining room was good for breakfast and dinner and had lunch everyday in the lido.

dive-in burgers are great...we mostly indulged in that and had delicious salads and soups.

the highlight of the entertainment was the b.b.king group playing at the queen's lounge and especially the wonderful island magic steel bad.. they did an afternoon show and one evening..definitely a great act..they must only play during caribbean cruises as they were just finihsing a 5 month contract before the ry dock..hope they'll be back in the fall.. everyone loved them.

even before the dry dock, we thought the ship was in great shape!!

  8. Norweigen Dream..

Wonderful experience over 20 years ago.

Started out crazy when a hurricane was heading our way.

    This was NY to Bermuda.

Our TA told us we may end up heading north instead and we wouldn't know until we got to the ship...lots of extra packing just in case.

Turned out we spent the first night in NY and the ship left early the following morning.

Bumpy first night, but smooth sailing after that.

    25 cruises later.....:)

  9. I was on the Eurodam in November and occassionally got a treat in the Explorer's Cafe without buying a coffee...They had a large selection of pastries and desserts and some small sandwiches. It was never crowded near the counter, and the staff was happy to stop us when we passed by

asking if we wanted anything. There was never a push for the coffee at all.

I would be disspointed not to experience the same nice service on the Nieuw Amsterdam this March.

I, too, enjoy the International Cafe on Princess and appreciate the chance to get a snack if it is not convenient to run to the Lido.

  10. We were on the Eurodam the week before Thanksgiving.

We just went there for lunch... our parent's anniversary

The service left much to be desired.

The wait staff was friendly, but they were not at all helpful when we found the first 2 courses extra spicy ( and nobody ate them )

After our dessert we asked for coffee and tea, and they proceeded to start cleaning the restaurant and preparing for the evening dinner crowd.

Nobody ever said thank you and goodbye and never brought the beverages.

    :confused::(
