  1. We are scheduled on Breakaway out of NOLA on 4/4/21.  It is the last scheduled cruise out of there on that ship until fall.  Is NCL likely to send the ship to NOLA for just one week, from where ever it is now (Miami??), or should I assume ours will be cancelled, even if other ships are sailing in April.  Our final payment isn't due until February, so maybe I'll just wait and see, but would appreciate any thoughts.  No, I haven't called NCL to ask.  😃

  2. Another peanut butter comment.   I read on these boards how great Melting Cake was with a scoop of peanut butter.   DH asked for that the first night, and it was a long wait, as the waiter had to go to the buffet to get it.  After that night, it was always ready for us.  Drop a scoop in the Melting Cake and it softens up.  Who can resist??

I did a mock booking on Breakaway for May 2021 as well.  The 5 free, with a cabin 4 doors away, was $60 more than our booked trip, but includes the Wifi and Excursion perks.  We had our first cruise on Norwegian cancelled in May, so we aren't considered past guests, I assume, since we never sailed.  Should I cancel and then rebook to get the 5 free, or will they do something for me if I call?  The conditions say this promo is today and tomorrow only.   Looking for Norwegian guidance, since this will be our first cruise here, even though we are experienced on Royal and Carnival.  Thanks!

Update:  Just chatted and they were happy to change our booking to All4 package, from the 2 free, for $60 more.  Score!

  5. Since I have learned by reading here that you are the NOLA Guru, I have a question for you.  We will be sailing out of NOLA in April, 2021 on this same itinerary.  Is there a restriction on when alcohol can be purchased onboard?  Like, when we're X miles down the river or not until we're in the Gulf, for instance?  We've done this trip before but I can't remember the particulars.  Thanks!

Trolley only had about 6 people on it when we got off Brilliance and that was a Thursday morning.  They have the ability to load wheelchairs (kind of like fold-down ramp on a bus) but not set up for luggage.  Driver just manhandles luggage up there (I gave her $5 tip).  Runs about every 20 minutes or so (check their website for your dates).

Embassy is to your right at that trolley stop, Marriott left.  When we were there they had a tiny Avis office next to the entrance since the whole ground floor was being redone.  Lines were out the door on the morning we sailed (at least 10 people), with only one person being served at a time.  Single driver was there getting cars from an offsite garage and bringing them back.  With only one person in front of me it took almost an hour to get our car.  The Marriott has a Hertz desk that you might want to consider instead of Avis.

Thanks, this is so helpful. Unfortunately, I prepaid Avis so I don't want to change companies.  I hate waiting but when we pick up the car we have no time constraints to leave Tampa.  But, on Monday, I think we'll try to be at the counter when they open at 8 am, as I would rather get to the terminal early and sit waiting to board the ship than stand in line at Avis.  I'm glad to hear the trolley shouldn't be an issue with our luggage, either day.

Terminal 3 and 6 are only about one ship length apart.  There wasn't enough room to put two ships between them when we were in 6 with Brilliance and 3 had the ship going to Cuba in December.  Sailed out of 6 and returned at 3.  We stayed at Embassy and took the trolley down the length of the pier.  Walk from trolley to a ship is also about a ship length (and mostly on the road), so you would be better off walking direct than going out to street, waiting for trolley and then walking back to pier.  Trolley isn't designed for luggage but driver will help lift bags up there.

Tampa has a really good guide to the piers, including ship schedules: https://www.porttb.com/cruise-terminal-6

    Trolley info is here:  http://www.tecolinestreetcar.org/#/home

We will be off Rhapsody on Sat 4/6.  I was planning to take the trolley from whichever terminal we dock at, to Embassy Suites to pick up the Avis rental car, but I was concerned about taking our 2 bags onto the trolley, even on a Sat. morning.  Any opinion on whether that will be an issue?  I assumed the trolley wouldn't be filled with commuters on Sat, but might be filled with cruisers instead.  We're in no rush, so maybe we just wait for the next trolley if one appears full.  Any estimate on distance, if we choose to walk to Embassy instead?

And, we'll be going back to Brillance on Mon 4/15, and I anticipated doing the trolley then too.  Maybe the baggage will be an issue that day, and we should see if Avis has a shuttle to the pier instead.

Thanks for your opinion on my choices.

  8. Lighthousewoman, yes we are on the March 18th cruise for Glory. I do like Grand Turk as well. How do I find out about the lighthouse there, and how to get to it? I am not a young woman, but I can walk for a long distance without any problem. Most people think look/act about (because of what I can do) 10 years younger than what I am. :)

I may have already said, but my sons/wives and best friend are going. They may not want to see it, but I would like to.

It is at the north end of GT. There are many cabs waiting at the terminal, and we took one for a tour of the island which included a stop at the lighthouse. I think I've read they do tours, including climbing, some days but I don't remember any specific details. It has nice views, and was well worth the trip, which I can't say about some Caribbean lighthouses we've seen. In my opinion, it's too far to walk from the cruise terminal, especially since a lot of the walk would be beside dry, hot roads. But, I'm not a walker, so that may be just what you want! I would take a cab, then stop at Jack's Shack for refreshments before heading back to the ship.

  9. Lighthousewoman, who knows, maybe we will run into each other, if we're doing the same date.

Do I gather you like lighthouses? If not, I love anything (climbed a few in my time) that has to do with lighthouses, as well as the song.

Yes, LOVE lighthouses! Have taken many guided tours throughout US and climbed many. I try to find them in cruise ports too, but I'm surprised how many islands don't have them. One of my favorites is in Grand Turk, so we might go see it again on the March cruise. Are you on the Mar 18 sailing?

  10. We are cruising with my MIL and want to suggest the family buy her gift cards for Christmas to use toward payment on the May cruise. Can you use the cards that way, or only for sign and sail credit once you're on the ship? These will be cards purchased directly from Carnival, I think. Thanks!
