  1. Oh my YES come join the Viking family.

The thing I love about Viking guests is they don't lead with their "credentials". They don't try to one up on how many cruises they have been on and where they have gone.

We have had wonderful meals with folks only to find out halfway through that they are a 4 star Admiral or a garbage man (there were two on one cruise and they did not know each other!).

There are self made people with their own companies and many, many working folks like teachers, nurses, retail, etc.

The guests ages cover the whole spectrum. We took our early 30's sons on a two week cruise to Norway and they had a blast.

No one comes across as snobbish or pretentious.

I myself come from southeast Michigan...I am a girl from steel and cars from a very blue collar family.

I moved to California in 1984 after I met my husband there.

If you love meeting people from all walks of life, all ages and all experiences without the likelihood  of being looked down on, then Viking just might be a good fit for you.

Maybe someday we will meet and we can have a cup of coffee and get to know each other.

I was able to get all except one of my preferred excursions and I’m waitlisted on it, so I’m very happy!  I’ll have just a short plane ride from Seattle to San Francisco (plus the 2.5-hr shuttle ride from Bellingham to SeaTac).  It’s going to be a fun trip!

By the way, I lived in the Bay area for 17 yrs, 10 yrs of that in Half Moon Bay, while working all over Silicon Valley.  I left in 1997 to move to Seattle, recruited by a small upstart online bookstore. 😉

Looking forward to meeting you. We are slowly getting off waitlist and on to the actual excursions.

    We too are happy.

Yes, it is the same card - used for getting on and off the ship, and into your suite.

edit:  and for purchases onboard, if any

So folks need to a carry it with them.. So I see a need for a lanyard. Right.

I’m booked on the 131-day Regent Seven Seas 2020 world cruise, round trip out of San Francisco on the Mariner January 24 - June 4.  I’ll be making the final payment at the end of this coming week.  I travel solo, and Regent’s pricing structure, especially the all-inclusive aspect, and general overall quality make it attractive for folks like me.  I booked this cruise while I was onboard the Mariner on a 28-day Panama Canal cruise last fall -- my first RSSC cruise -- and even booked the same cabin.

Most looking forward to: everything, really.  I have some physical challenges that make excursions tricky sometimes, so the onboard experience is at least as important as the extra port exploration.  Regent offers a superb onboard experience with the smaller ship size, attention to detail, and relaxed friendly vibe.  Having a 4.5-month vacation where I don’t have to worry about a thing is my idea of a wonderful way to spend part of my retirement.

We will be joining you on the cruise! We live south of SF so no planes for us on this true around the world cruise. Just finished booking all our excursions.  We got some we wanted and some we wanted we did not get.   We just got off Viking for month.

I've become obsessed with world cruises lately. I cannot seem to find enough information on them. I am curious who is already booked and looking forward to your trip? I would love to hear which cruise line you are taking and what you are most looking forward to!

Booked on the Regent 7 Seas Mariner starting January 24 to June 4.  Just choosing excursions today.

For boarding the ship do it as soon as you can to enjoy your first day.  We always do are own Car or taxi to the dock to avoid all the crowds.  We always take late flights out so we usually get off last, again to avoid the crowds and the mess in general.

You don't need a lanyard because you don't need to show your card except for getting on or off the ship. Only the spa and gift shop needs to see it.

Room Service is like any hotel room service.  Entertainment isn't much, nice cocktails and nibbles passed around.  I think the most important thing is to enjoy yourself and relax, don't let the little that may go wrong trouble you-life is to short for that. Always😊

    So

the room key is not the same as the boarding card?

  8. Hey all. We are on the 2020 World Cruise leaving from San Francisco. We are so happy because we live 4O minutes south of SF in Silicon Valley so we don't have airline and luggage issues. This is the first I have been able to even look at anything due to life overload. I am seeing lots of good info here.

Is there a roll call for the 2020 trip?

We have previously traveled a year around the world on a self guided trip and are looking forward to something a little more relaxed. http://www.worldtrippers.com/02world/index.html

We look forward to meeting everyone here and on board.

    Hi Camnjoss -

That's great!  Glad to see another Californian.  Will see you aboard then in Barcelona!  Don't forget to sign up for the Meet & Mingle over on the April 25th Jupiter Roll call.    Ditto for HockeyMom44!   See you all - getting close now.

Other than the M&M are there any other  plans?

Likewise, we are on Jupiter April 25 as well.  We are also on Jupiter for South America in December.

Will be interested to hear from people who have been on the other Viking Ocean ships as to what any of the differences are between the Jupiter and the others.

We too are on the April 25th Jupiter sailing. We love the small ships. We love the opportunity it gives to get to know folks.

    See you all soon.

  11. Hi Carol and Hank,

Looks like we may be cruising for a while together. We too cruise on the big ships and this will be our first US river cruise.

We are starting out in New Orleans on August 20 and going the whole way to Minneapolis.

I am originally from Michigan, just south of Detroit on the river.

My husband and I currently live in California- Silicon Valley.

If you want to find us on board we are a mixed race couple. Russell is Chinese American (2nd gen) and I am caucasian. Both on the tall side and in our very early 60's (well ok Russell is 59 but close enough).

We hope to see you one board.

There is another couple from Alabama going the whole way who has contacted me. Maybe we can all meet up

  12. Does anyone know what the luggage storage is like on the AQ? We are in 508 on the August mighty Miss. and would like to have 2 large suit cases but don't know what storage is like. Thx, Rick

Are you doing the August 20th cruise the entire length?

If so that is what we are on room 460.

  13. We are on the August 20th cruise going the entire length! We are so excited.

    Anyone else on that trip?

Looking at excursions and have decided to pretty much go it alone...if we can do that in South America we can certainly do that up the Mississippi.

  14. I've been scouring the boards for any info on what changes they're making to her but haven't seen anything.

So excited to see what they add to her.

Does anyone have any news? :ship::confused:

We were on her last voyage before dry dock. They changed all the carpeting in the common areas while we were on board. They also completely packed up the general store type shop for a redo.

According to crew they will change all carpeting and beds in the cabins.

He also said they were scraping the hull and working on the ventilation systems in passenger and crew areas.
