I had to cancel the annual cruise we had booked due to his passing, but I need to continue cruising. My gut says to stay with NCL for now and I can't afford the luxury lines. But, it does scare me to think about what my emotions will be on a ship that will remind me of him everywhere. But, I think of him everyday anyway so I guess that's ok.
I know how you feel. My solo cruise was on the NCL Escape which we had booked for our 30th anniversary but had to cancel due to his illness. I was worried that all I would think of is what we would have done together or what he would have thought about the shows, dining, etc. But for me, I needed to do this ship and cruise by myself so I didn't have to pretend for anyone else how I was feeling. I'm not sure that makes sense but it worked and I had a really nice time.

I am sorry for your loss. I was 57 when my husband died 2 years ago. We loved cruising and I took my first cruise 7 months after he died on what would have been our 31st anniversary. There were emotional times but overall it was great and cathartic. I cruised NCL and did go to the solo meetings; I was fine doing stuff on my own but it was nice to have the option to dine or go to shows with other people if you wanted without having to search them out. I have not cruised solo on any other line but NCL does a great job with solos and I think their price is fair for their product. I have cruised a few times since - not solo - but I am looking forward to cruising to solo again soon!

I was on the Escape. It actually sailed September 30th. I'm hoping to go on Breakaway when she comes to New Orleans.

I also went on my first solo cruise last October and loved it. I'm looking forward to doing it again! I cruised NCL and liked the solo gatherings each night which made it easy to find someone to dine with if you wanted.

I will definitely be eating alone sometimes, and mostly I'm okay with it. It's harder at dinner to eat by oneself, I think.
I took my first solo cruise in October and my biggest concern was eating alone. I figured I would just go with it and enjoy. I ended up never eating dinner alone - always someone in solos group to eat with. I did eat lunch alone a few times but it was by choice. I was also in a studio after always having a balcony and had the thermal suite pass; the cabin was very comfortable and the thermal suite easily made up for not having a balcony. I had a great time and can't wait to cruise solo again. Have a great time!

For us on the 14 day February Breakaway Cruise..passes were $299.00 each. Don't know if that is always the price or not. I am pretty sure 7 day cruises are around $199.00 each.
Joe
Thanks. I did pay $199 for a 7 day pass in October. I have a 13 day cruise booked next November and couldn't find the prices for the thermal spa. Wanted to know how much to plan for!

Do you mind telling me what the thermal suite pass cost for a 14 day cruise? Thanks.

How much is the thermal suite pass for a 14 day cruise?

Today is 6 months for me. Still doesn't seem real. We had planned a cruise last year for our 30th anniversary but couldn't take it due to his illness. I'm taking it this year; it will be bittersweet but I can't think of a better way to celebrate our marriage and life together.
Croozelyfe, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Skubi, my 2 biggest fears are the same as yours. I'm cruising NCL and chose them for a few reasons but one of the main reasons is that they seem to make it very easy for solo cruisers to meet.

I don't want to turn this into a "recently widowed" thread but I too am recently widowed and am glad I saw this thread. Scuba and Terry55, I am sorry for your losses. I took the plunge last night and booked my first solo cruise. We had only cruised a handful of times but loved it. I am nervous and excited. It really helps me to see advice from others who cruise solo.

All-ready2cruise and Loved to Cruise - thank you for the support; you have mine as well. It's nice to bounce things off someone in the same boat - no pun intended (or maybe there is)!

I'm also glad I found this post as, unfortunately like so many other posters, I recently lost my husband after a brief battle with cancer. We had planned a cruise for last October to celebrate our 30th anniversary but had to cancel due to his illness. I've decided the best way to celebrate our anniversary this year is to take the cruise we had planned to take last year. A previous poster said I "need to spend some time by myself to figure out who I am"; that really hit home. I'm thankful I had as long as I had with him and will also be toasting our life together. It encourages me that so many people enjoy solo cruising.

You can also ask ahead of time by emailing the maitre'd and asking for a table for just the 5 of you. We always ask for just a table for our family. We traveled with 5 last time and got a booth with a chair on the end. You will need to put names, ship, date and room number in your request. You can double check your table after you board and if not happy see the maitre'd during the set time to talk with him the first day. Very easy.
Where would I find the email for the maitre'd? Thanks.

If you link a cc to your account and then add gift cards when you board, do they only charge your cc when the amount on the gift cards is used up?
-
I bought gift cards to pay for Cheers for our upcoming cruise. Do I need to apply them to our s&s account before we purchase Cheers?

Thanks for the info!

Is there a limit to how many gift cards you can order? Thanks.
What is the best bar on Meraviglia?
in MSC Cruises
Posted
I was on Meraviglia over Thanksgiving and really enjoyed the Meraviglia Bar. Drinks and service were excellent. Horizon was also good. Never tried Edge or the bar in the lobby area. The Pub made some pretty good drinks also.
I'll be on Divina in January for the first time and will definitely try the Garden Bar.
