  1. I own a Hero 3+ and a Session 5. Both are great but the latter will shoot in 4K at 60 FPS. I bought the 3+ three years ago to wrist mount it for New Zealand's highest bungee jump. You can see how it's mounted at the 0:16 mark and the actual footage at the 1:01 mark in this video.

  2. Just got back to the states following a 3 1/2 week trip. Drove 2500 km from Munich to Neuschwanstein to Herrenchiemsee to Salzburg to Berchtesgaden to Venice to Graz to Vienna to Prague and then on to Erlangen where we boarded the Viking Jarl to cruise to Budapest. Fantastic trip! I'll put together a video of the cruise when we get back to Vermont.

My wife met someone who had just completed a similar cruise with Uniworld and was told they only had 46 passengers on a longboat because tourism is down. Is this possible? The Jarl's capacity is 190 and I don't believe we had any empty cabins.

  3. Thanks Notamermaid and Acwmom!

I've copied your notes into a folder.

We do plan to spend a few days in Munich at the beginning of the trip. We'll be staying with a nice couple we met in the Australian Outback last November.

  4. I've enjoyed viewing the reports and photos. Our only prior river cruise was on the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam a few years ago.

In July we'll fly to Munich 18 days before our Viking cruise from Nuremberg to Budapest begins.

Here's our tentative itinerary before sailing. It's very flexible at this point. I'd love to hear suggestions and recommendations.

    Rent a car and visit:

    Neuschwanstein

    Herrenchiemsee

    Berchtesgaden

    Salzberg

    Venice

    Vienna

    Prague

I learned to ski in Berchtesgaden in 1956. It'll be fun to get back there.

On the cruise itself, Viking has several free and optional excursions. I'm wondering more about hidden gems, and off-the-beaten path discoveries.

    Thanks!

  5. There is a LOT to do in Sydney. During our recent stop there we recorded some of our more memorable experiences and put them in short video slideshows.

  6. Very nice slide show! Thanks for sharing!

I'll be on the Norwegian Sky next week, with stops at Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay. Will also be in Key West, although separate from the cruise.

How was the water temp? What sorts of things did you do in Nassau and KW?

Never got in the water so can't comment on that. In Nassau we took a van tour but had more fun on the rented scooter. Had a few white knuckle moments. If we were to return we'd buy a day pass to Atlantis. In Key West we toured Truman's Little White House, Hemingway's house, Mel Fisher's Treasure Museum, and the lighthouse. We ate at Sloppy Joes.

  7. I really enjoyed viewing your photos. It brought back memories of a great trip we took on the Viking Sun from Basel to Amsterdam. We extended an extra day at both cities. In 2016 we'll be doing the Romantic Danube cruise with Viking.

I put our photos into a video.

  8. Like Hallasm I too have a Vimeo account but rarely use it. Search engines are more likely to pick up my videos if they are on YouTube. That's important if your videos are monetized. Granted it's a small supplement to my retirement income but a second channel I have for tech tips for seniors does provide a little extra spending money each month.

    We cruised Alaska in July.

has already had over a thousand views. Had it been on Vimeo, the figure would have been much lower.
  9. We cruised in July on Radiance of the Seas. All the ports were enjoyable.

The least commercial was Icy Strait Point. Depending on weather you can walk to town. There is a bald eagle nest just across from the high school.

Ketchikan's Creek Street is a great spot for photography.

Skagway is a funky town with a lot of charm.

Seward and Juneau each had their plusses.

We started off with a land portion before the cruise. All the stops are recapped in this video. The cover photo was taken at Icy Strait Point.

  10. We are taking a similar land and cruise in June next year. How did you pack and what was the luggage situation when you went? Did you have a separate luggage for the land part and then the cruise part? Was all your luggage with you all of the time?

The luggage was handled very smoothly for the entire vacation. Royal Caribbean arranged for our suitcases to be delivered directly to our rooms at the various land stops. We were instructed to have our suitcases packed and ready outside our hotel rooms at a specific time each evening for pick up. One word of caution. Several members of our traveling party including my wife bought a souvenir Ulu knife before boarding and packed it in a suitcase. Security confiscated the knives and held them until the cruise was over.
