  1. Just got off the Escape 4/29-5/6. We were in a Balcony, and bid We bid $1250 PP on Havens.

There were 12 Havens still available the Monday before, 10 in 1 category.

They started disappearing Tues/Weds. By Thursday the Havens were showing NOT AVAILABLE except for 1 room.

Thursday we decided to bid on the Mini suite. $125 PP which was just in the 'FAIR' range.

We had our bid accepted 2:23 on Friday. It turned out to be the last remaining room listed on NCL.

  2. I called NCL tonight after seeing SOLD OUT on many of the Haven rooms on the website. I wanted to know why they were still offering bidding for upgrades on room categories that were unavailable online and I was told they have rooms available that are not on the website. The representative said that would not offer bidding on rooms if they were not available and until I receive accepted or denied there is still a possibility. Has anyone heard differently? I wonder if the information given out by their representatives is consistent?

We asked the same question and I was told the same exact thing.

It could be they leave the bidding open in case someone moves from a lower Haven to higher Haven, then they can fill the lower Haven with a bid.

  3. love jack bauer references!

does anyone know for sure about the reason BA is so far away . just curious. wont affect my decision to step on land .

I do not know the reason, but my guess is that it's just NCL's slot.

Not only the Breakaway the last 3 years, but also the Jewel and Gem docked there if I remember correctly.

Also, I've seen larger ships in closer slots.

  4. FOOD - Again, I thought it declined from my last cruise five years ago.

I think the food on the Breakaway is very good. But I guess it's where you go.

Moderno is excellent, (although they keep raising the price). We go Night 1, it's usually pretty empty.

La Cucina is average, but always seemed packed.

Tepanyaki is typical Hibachi, but I can get it for less at home.

The Noodle Bar is very good, and Complimentary. Food comes out hot and fresh.

MDR Offerings like Veal chops and Chateau Briand are delicious. Like any cruiseline, some items are average.

Tip: we check the Dinner menu at lunchtime to find out what on Dinner menu, they are posted outside the MDRs. Manhattan Room food always seems better than Taste and Savor.

Buffet is buffet food. Jewel and Gem do a better job.

  5. Thank You, Is it expected to tip for every drink we order? We usually do but I'm expecting I will be drinking just a bit more as the drinks are free this time.

Tips are in the package, I tipped but I found a couple good bartenders on the first couple days, tipped them nicely and kept going back to them for the most part and wasn't concerned with extra tips.

The only 'wrinkle' is that the service in the dining rooms can be slow, (typical of any cruise line with UBP, not a complaint). So stop by a bar on your way to dinner and bring it in with you, and I would also order another when I sat down if you planned on having another during dinner.

Same goes with the shows and casino. basically set yourself up first.

  6. Sorry to hijack - but if the UBP includes soda, and we have two adults one child in the room, both adults purchase the UBP - do we have to buy the soda package for DD?

    ATTENTION!!!!!

As of yesterday the UBP has changed and is $54/day if you book ahead,(by phone or online), $59/day if you book onboard...

It now includes all beer, drinks and glasses of wine under $10....

I would contact NCL and ask since you are sailing in two days...

  7. Do they sell buckets of beer poolside on the Gem. What is the going price and what do you get?

They did when I was on the ship but that was 2 years ago. It's buy 5 get 1 'free' and they are about $6 each, (depending on brand of beer),

    A bargain!!! :p
