  1. Does anyone know how they split the ships cabins into the various muster stations?

How many muster points are there?

Trying to book cabins on the Britannia for the two of us and also the MIL who will have her own cabin. Trying to have the same muster station but cabins may having to be on different decks?

Have asked PandO shoreside but they said they didn't know or have any information.

Anyone out there done their homework on this topic?

    Thanks

    Richard & Gill

  2. I know what the time will be for the master drill when u board I would get ur mothers life jacket and take her to her master station find her a comfortable seat 15/20 mins before this way u can still use the lifts and wait with her till the drill alarm is sounded the u and ur partner move to ur station this way u know she is there and safe and she can wait there until it's over so u can help her back up to the cabin

Thank you for offering a sensible option, DW still has concerns leaving her alone although she has worked on ships in her earlier years and lives very independently alone at home. We will try and get an answer from p&o that reassures DW or just hold this cruise to a later date and try another cruise line to take Mother on where cabins are in same area.

  3. My DW has asked my MIL to come on a cruise to the carribbean with us next year. The problem is her single cabin is forward whereas we are in an aft suite, already pre booked. DW has concerns about her 83 year old Mum attending muster on her own and in the event of an incident would be separated from her. Has anyone else had experience of this and what are the chances she would be able to be with us for drill?

  4. The weather report for there today indicated 33 mph winds with gusts up to 40 at the time the ship would have been approaching (7am). As anyone knows cruise ships have a lot surface area and winds over 25 can exceed the capability of the side thrusters in confined areas. After 10am the forecast had the winds dropping significantly, but too probably too late for the stop.

Marine charts for the port are showing, even now, 22 knot winds, and 10 foot waves. This is after the winds have dropped significantly from this morning.

The cruise ship track showed that it was approaching, but then turned south around 4am. It appears that they made the decision, based upon then current conditions and the weather report that indicated that the wind would continue past scheduled arrival time.

The outer harbour is protected by a 1.75 mile long breakwater and a mountain that provides shelter from Southerly & Southwesterly winds. There may have been a swell but it should not have caused problems to the CB or her tenders. As for 10 foot waves this evening, that may have been the case in the Irish Sea but not in the harbour which we can see from our house. As I wrote in my original post if the Jonathan Swift a small catamaran could sail this morning (along with the other larger ferries) my opinion regarding the Caribbean Princess remains unchanged.

  5. This is not the first time Princess have decided to sail past Holyhead. The weather was an excuse as the ship would have anchored within the shelter of the massive breakwater which would have also sheltered the tenders. This operation was successfully carried out by the Celebrity Silhouette last year. The weather was not bad enough to stop the Irish Ferries catamaran from sailing and she is reliant on good weather. We are a small town and look forward to welcoming cruise ships to our port and various activities are arranged for those that chose to wander around town, sadly this was the only Princess ship to dock here this year, having sailed on the CB many times we were looking forward to seeing her again.

  6. Anyone have any idea of the approximate upgrade cost to World Traveller Plus on a long haul flight to San Francisco? Is it the same as if we booked on BA website?

Not tried this with P&O only with Princess to Miami. We found that it was considerably cheaper to book our own flights direct with BA when we wanted to book World Traveller Plus.

  7. The layout of the aft mini suites and suites on the Sun Princess are slightly different to the Oceana. On the Sun they are on the inside where the Oceanas suites are and the suites are on the outside where the Oceanas minis are! Hope this makes sense! We had B755 mini on the Sun a few years ago and the space and the balcony was brilliant, but the vibrations and the rattles were a pain to say the least!
