  1. The rest of my family is older and won't change;) I love the Any Time Dining, but they want late dinner scheduled. I want to make sure there is a seat at their table for me for the nights when I will sit with them so I am scheduled for late dinner. If I change to Any Time, then I won't have a seat at their table even if I choose to go for late dinner.

I was just wondering if, on a few nights, I could go to the Any Time Dining room and ask if I could be seated if there was space for one person:)

  2. I am going on a cruise with some other members of my family (three rooms total). They all like late dinner. On the last cruise back in 2019, we were not even eating dessert until almost 10PM on most nights.

I cannot eat that late. I will probably eat earlier (on Lido) and just go sit with them in the MDR for the late dining. If I wanted to eat in the MDR earlier a couple of nights, would it be possible to get a table as a single diner around 6PM even though I technically have late dining on my reservation? Anyone know if it's a hard no or if it might be a possibility if I ask the hostess?

  3. Thanks for the great trip report. I couldn't agree more about the food. We are a family of four with two teenagers. All four of us were so very disappointed with the food all week. We didn't care that the portions were so small because the food was just not good at all. I don't understand how or why it could be so bad. The steak was even terrible. Because of this, I don't know that we would go on Princess again should we go to Alaska again.

  4. Now to read up on how to not get motion sickness, wish it was simply mind over matter :o

Over the counter Bonine. It works great. I take one in the morning and it's good for the day for ship, flights, train, bus, etc. I get terrible motion sickness. I've taken Bonine for years when travelling. No side effects like some other meds.

  5. I could have written your post. I have seen the pictures and it really tugs on my heart. I already talked to my daughter about it. We already have the very $$$ excursion booked and it is one of the most cancelled tours due to weather. I do hope we get to do it, but do have very mixed feelings about seeing the dogs chained to their little igloos. I understand that it's all they have ever known and that they are working. If you are an animal lover, I don't see how that wouldn't bother you at all. But, to each his own.

On a side note, a few months ago we had to travel to Arkansas. It was literally freezing outside. The hotel was pet friendly. Just before 6AM every morning we would hear dogs incessantly barking outside our hotel window (which was on the side of the building). We were on the second floor and just below our window there were unmarked white SUVs with the back windows cracked a couple of inches. At the top of the windows, they had a grate of some kind. The dogs were police dogs in training. During the day, the dogs were trained there in the side parking lot outside our window. Since they were being trained, there was no "good dog" being said, not petting, etc. I felt so horrible for those dogs. So did my daughter. We didn't understand why they couldn't put the dogs in crates and let them sleep inside with the trainer/handler. It really bothered us.

I can't get the link to work.

  7. IF you are using the train, rather than spend 2 hours on the round trip transit, schedule your flight for when you are in Talkeetna.

I looked at it all again and I just need to clarify. So we are at the McKinley Princess Lodge for one night. You're saying that we should do the flight the morning we leave there? That way we would already be in Talkeetna? On the Princess website, the only time they list is 9AM. So, I'm assuming it would be safe to independently book a 9AM flight. The train leaves at 1:30.

After looking at it, I think I understand. If we were to do the flight on the afternoon that we arrive at the lodge, then we would have to travel to Talkeetna and back, and then the next morning travel to Talkeetna again to catch the train.

Thank you for telling me that. Please let me know if I understand correctly.

  8. Our family of four definitely wants to do the Glacier Landing Explorer excursion listed on the Princess website. I had to call to find out that there is no availability for us at all. This is our first Alaska cruise and first cruise on Princess. I thought I'd ask people with more experience. I tried searching but haven't found exactly what I need.

What reputable options do I have to do this tour?

5.5 hours Excursion originates and ends at the McKinley Princess Lodge. Transportation to and from excursion provided by the McKinley Princess Talkeetna Shuttle.

    Glacier Landing Explorer Tour

  9. We are looking at that also. I am concerned about the dog sled part of it because of my knees. I read someone's review who said that you stand on two boards and it was like water skiing over snow with a lot of bumps and such. Also, that it required you to lift one foot up to slow down when going too fast. I also read that you can wipe out and fall!

Can anyone comment on the mushing part of this excursion?
