We leave October 26 and stay 3 nights afterwards in Paris. Will keep my fingers crossed about the possibility of being docked in Paris. Thanks for the tips

Any feedback as to whether or not I need to get Yen before leaving America would be appreciated. We are doing the October Diamond princess going from Tokyo to Hong Kong.

If Princess doesn't open up more tours, I will use your advice to at least try to do the navy headquarters.

Princess tours sold out as of now and we are a group of three needing a tour of military monuments. Don't want to just leave the ship and look for a cab. Arrive at 7:00 and leave at 2:00 so not there long. Suggestions welcome.

Watching the videos from cornishpastyman1 is/was very helpful. I will show them to my husband and if we discover it is too hard to get all the way to Hiroshimo, at least we will have seen beforehand what is there - almost as good as going ourselves!

We are doing a 7 day cruise on the Diamond Princess Tokyo to Hong Kong and staying 3 days in Tokyo before boading the ship. Leo178, I do not see us going to anywhere but Hiroshimo from Tokyo, as we already have hotel plans for the 3 nights prior to the trip, all hotel time being in Tokyo. I think it would be too scary to go on our own to Hiroshimo during one of the other cruise stops and chance missing the boat at days end, although other stops would be closer than Tokyo.

Thanks both of you for your great advice. I will let you know what I decide, and will also contact people at my hotel to see what they suggest.

We will be going on the diamond princess from tokyo to hong kong this October 2014 and pre trip will be staying in the shangri la hotel. My husband wants to go to hiroshima by train. I think it is 4 hours each way on a bullet trian. Should I buy the tickets ahead of time and should I have my hotel take care of this?

Thanks for the great responses to this thread so far. I am brave, but nervous about doing this. From your posts I believe I have learned I can travel by train from the airport to my hotel. I arrive around 1 in the afternoon on Sunday 10/12. Should I plan on being able to take luggage with me or do I have to have it sent? Again, is this something I need to have my hotel arrange?

need specifics of how to accomplish trip while in tokyo pre-trip. Have hotel reserved in tokyo so want to go by train and back in a long day on or about October 13 or 14, 2014
