  1. During the future cruise presentations on my recent cruises, the CruiseNext crew has stated specifically that the OBC generated from the purchase of CruiseNext certificates may be used to offset the cost of the certificates themselves. Having purchased many CruiseNext certificates since they were first offered, I believe that this has always been the case. In the past, the CruiseNext crew were reluctant to promote that feature, hoping that the ambiguity would encourage the use of the OBC elsewhere. If asked directly, however, they would always answer correctly.

Whenever I board an NCL ship, I (immediately) proceed to my stateroom to deposit al my luggage, place some items in the safe, then proceed to a dining venue for lunch, (without) having to carry/pull ANY luggage/bags along with me!

I do this also. I smile at the stewards and say that I’m just going to drop the luggage in the cabin. It’s never been an issue. It does require ignoring the signs on the doors, however.

  3. My suggestion is to figure out what you believe to be fair and appropriate. Approach the poor beleaguered person at Guest Services with a big smile and a friendly greeting. Explain carefully why you believe it’s fair and appropriate. If they don’t agree immediately then smile and ask to speak to a supervisor. Repeat until you’re satisfied. They really do try to accommodate reasonable requests.

When my March cruise was cancelled, we got the cruise fare credited as FCC to our next cruise - which was also just canceled....the cruise next certificate was not credited to our next cruise. It showed back up on our myncl account page, but it took a few weeks. It was the original $250 - no 125 % applied to that.

My FCC includes 25% of the portion paid with CruiseNext certificates.

In Jamaica on a Princess tour, we were running late. For no particular reason other than the excursion seemed to take longer than the time allotted. On the bus back, we heard our guide talking to someone presumably at their office that we were on our way. Next thing we know, we had a police escort back to the ship.

I had a similar experience in Jamaica. For the last few miles, we drove down the middle of road like we were an emergency vehicle.

"We have expired the previously published policy which gave you an Onboard Credit (OBC) if you did not cancel your bookings on cruises or cruisetours for departures between May 11, 2020 and May 31, 2020."

Does this mean that they have removed the $200 OBC for staying loyal and not canceling?

That's certainly what I would have thought until I read the following, which is included among the FAQs for the new policy:

"19. When will my OBC be applied?
All cruises up to May 31, 2020 have OBCs applied to the bookings."

Why create this confusion if their stated goal is to get passengers not to cancel?

  7. Since your husband is "insisting" that you go, then look at it this way:  If you had won a free solo cruise in one of your favorite cabins, paying only port fees, taxes, and gratuities, would you turn it down? That's the decision that you're facing.

If your concern is traveling solo, as opposed to leaving your husband behind, then check out some of the many postings from solo passengers in similar circumstances. Almost all were glad that they decided to go.

  8. I've been in balconies and oceanviews on Breakaway, which is virtually identical to Getaway. There is no advantage to the balcony cabins other than the balcony itself, the sliding door that lets in fresh air,  and the coffeemaker.  Deck 5 is quiet, has wider corridors, and is convenient to the restaurants and activities on Decks 6, 7, and 8.

Has anyone seen pics of the updated staterooms?

I was in an inside, which was unchanged from my prior cruise on the Caribbean Princess except, perhaps, for the bed and pillows. I can't remember whether they had been upgraded previously.

I must have around 30 cruise cards. I suppose I collect them and I also wonder about that. I suspect any replacement/substitute card for the Medallion will be rather utilitarian and might not look like what I am used to seeing. Time will tell. I hope someone can answer our questions.

They look exactly the same as the old cruise cards except that they're lacking the magnetic stripe and the signature space on the back.

The added bonus (IMO) is that the wait staff rarely have to take your medallion away to process a drink order. They usually have the reader/receiver on their person, so you rarely lose sight of your medallion, as opposed to a card, that has to be swiped at the bar. I am always nervous that I'll forget my card somewhere, the medallion has a little more heft, and I think I only handed it over once during my entire sailing.

The cruise cards have RFID and are recognized by all electronic readers on board. There is no more swiping; the cards do not have magnetic strips.

Question for the experienced folks.  Just booked a Panama Cruise for 2021 aboard the Emerald, which should have the Medallion by then.  I want to confirm, as I've seen through the posts that you can get a cruise card if your medallion isn't working or you don't like it.  Can you also just get a cruise card and still use the Medallion?

Yes, if you get a cruise card while your medallion is functioning then they will both work for the duration of the cruise.

You can't "opt out" and have them issue you a cruise card instead if that's what you mean.

You may opt out. I did. After a few days of minor annoyances with the medallion, I got a cruise card at Guest Services. I found it much more convenient to use - and it doesn't require any accessories.
