Looks bad without the night club

Just got off the Grand yesterday.

One of our favorite Head Waiter's told me the Star will replace the Grand in 2020.

He was very sure about that...we'll see.

    If it's true...we'll have a skywalkers again.

  2. I can't see Princess taking a ship from SF. They almost always sail full.

Someone posted on Vicki's FB page that they heard the Grand was going to be sent to LA, and the Ruby would be coming to SF???

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

  3. We did it the same day we did our 40 year Vow Renewal. We both hate to have our picture taken by the way...Best pictures we have ever taken. Worth every cent IMO.

If you don't like them, you don't have to purchase them.

  4. But no snow around Glacier Bay when I was there in Sep. Just bare except for the glacier face itself plus it was a gray, wet day (as were other days on the 7-day cruise). This cruise was a in early retirement gift to my sister so it was quite disappointing knowing how much better it looks in the spring when my husband and I have been there multiple times.

    I'll bet that was disappointing!

Glacier Bay in early June still had a lot of snow and floating ice. It was beautiful!

  5. Hello' date='

We are new to Princess, cruising mostly Celebrity and NCL. Have always had Princess on our bucket list, and have never been to Alaska. There is an great itinerary next late August 2019 roundtrip from San Francisco for 10 nights.

    I have two questions:

    1. I see mixed reviews on the Grand, but I don't necessarily go by the reviews, and we don't mind a smaller, older ship, as long as the food and service is good. What are your opinions on Lady Grand?

    2. Having never been to Alaska, is August a good month to go? We are nature lovers and want to see as much wildlife as possible.

I appreciate any opinions and any sharing of experience!

    Thanks,

    Susan[/quote']

Well...she is getting up there in her years, but always seems to be taken care of.

The staff have always been great, food options are good also.

We've been in May/June and September. The snow was still on some of the mountains in May/June, so the scenery was stunning...we also had great weather.

    September was pretty good also.

I would enjoy Alaska no matter what month it was:D

  6. I have read that these balconies have tinted glass so that Promenade walkers can't see in easily. For those that are on the balcony, does the tint prevent you from seeing out to the beauty of Alaska? (Well, I realize they would if you were on a Caribbean cruise. LOL)

Are the deck chairs and table the same as those on any other balcony?

    Thanks.

We had one on the Grand on an Alaska cruise, it was great.

We had a table and 2 chairs...I believe.

The tinting doesn't block your view at all.

You are completely covered if that matters to you.

  7. This is one of my favorite places ever! The inlet where it's located is lovely, the island-style food was great, and Tisa is charming. The island tour that preceded lunch and beach time was good too.

Is it possible to grab a taxi from the port to get there, and do you have to pre-arrange/make a reservation to go here? TIA

  8. Why I don't sail on the Grand even though she is berth'd 30 miles from my home.

IMHO...It's time to replace the Grand. We've had these issues more than once on the Grand. We love having a Princess ship to hop on in SF. We are just across the bay too.

We woke up in the middle of the night to water flowing out of the toilet on the Ruby a few years ago. We were taken to another cabin for the rest of the night. The carpet was replaced, chocolate strawberries delivered to our cabin.

**No need to call a lawyer**

  9. Hi All- I am looking at a 10-day Alaska tour from San Francisco on the Grand Princess. Reviews of the ship are mixed- especially about the condition of the ship. How is it- just dated or in rough shape? Big updates expected in dry dock? Thank you in advance!

No problem with her in my opinion....as you can see we sail on her most of the time.

Always seem to have great staff, and we appreciate Princess having a ship in SF.

    Enjoy your cruise:)

  10. Got home this morning.. flew out last night.

They made you reservations and if you didn't

like them you went to desk to see if they could change them.

That's what the married couple could of done. I had mine changed.

MOST people got HNL to LAX then to SFO then a hotel. So everyone

could be there on Dec. 8th to keep there regular plans. Some got direct

flights to SFO. But as you know always someone else got different routes.

They Princess tried their best to help everyone but some not happy ever.

The trouble in Maui was on land nothing to do with Princess.

I think fun was had by all even with this happening. Only thing the

weather wasn't as good as it could of been. I've been on this cruise

at this time of the year many times .. great weather.. this time just

the luck of the draw. Sure some people were really glad when got

to first port. Quite a bit of waves the 5 days at sea. Usually only 2.

Doesn't bother me but know it does for others.

The crew was very good and friendly. Had many things planned during

the day and night. Always something to do. Shows, movies, games,

speakers.. Hawaiian actives and lots of music. I thought the food was

good of course some dishes better than others.

I was on a b2b with Mexico before the Hawaii cruise. There were people

on board even then working on the ship. You didn't notice them much

as you did in the last week of Hawaii. They do it to get ahead of dry dock.

Had only 12 days, now only 8 if they make cruise on the 20th. You want

a clean ship. Saw them scraping, painting, polishing wood. Things they

can do while moving. Couple of things their doing, taking everything out

of casino and putting in a new rug. Getting all new bedding, curtains for

the rooms. Plus other indoor things and of course hull. engine and the

    whatever happen door.

Waiting to plan a new cruise. I think they did well with us all,

we didn't miss any ports, lost only 2 days at sea. Would of rather cruise

to port and not fly home but it's what it is.

So 50% off cruise and then other 50% off future cruise that was nice

plus fly everyone home, well that they had to do. Oh someone asked,

did have to pay luggage, will send bill to Princess.

    Good to hear!

    Thanks for checking in!

  11. Yes Thank you Nancy!! I'm on that next cruise for Dec 20, and I am concerned even though my roll call doesn't seem to be!

    You're very welcome!

I don't chat that much on here, but I do get a bunch of info from everyone that does.

Glad I was able to help a little.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  12. I am also wondering about all this PVSA chatter....I mean dozens of posts that have literally nothing to do with anyone here nor anyone onboard the Grand?....I personally could care less if Princess gets this fine or not just as much as I could care less if Princess pays 10 or 12 cents per apple they purchase....

But back to things that DO affect Princess pax does anyone onboard or just leaving know when Princess expects to get underway for Portland? I checked the roll call for the cruise right after the dry dock and figured they would be freaking out about missing all or part of their cruise but they don't seem to be concerned at all. I know Princess won't cancel the drydock so its seems to me the next cruise will be impacted one way or another....

My cruise buddy texted me this morning, stating the ship was leaving for Portland as soon as all the passengers disembarked.

Everybody was getting off by 10am, so the Grand could leave Honolulu.

  13. Is there any other news about the Grand and its passengers?

The balance of the passengers will FLY out of Honolulu today.

Friends onboard will arrive in Oakland tonight at 10:30pm pst.

    They had a great trip...no complaints...well maybe flying home:eek:
