  1. I am a an XXL sized adult and slept ten days on the sofa bed. It was just fine and was more comfortable than the average sofa bed. However, we will go back to mini suites as the sofa bed when out was overly obstructive. The larger balcony was great in the Caribbean but the room was not adequate for our needs compared to a mini suite. Room was accurately described and we tried it for a bit of cost savings. We had a good time but found the deluxe balcony room inadequate space for three adults.

  2. Was on the same cruise and got our water just fine. I'm confused about your claim that your fare showed the difference. My purchases only showed up on the excursions page in the Personalizer and my water, soda package, and Internet only showed up on the On board Experiences page and were attributed to me there. None of that stuff showed in my cruise account before or after the cruise.

  3. Actually you are incorrect.

FAA defines Aircraft as "a device that is used or intended to be used for flight in the air." And you can check 14 CFR 1.1. As you can see, zero mention of passengers. Shooting down a drone is a violation of 18 U.S. Code § 32(a)(1), Destruction of Aircraft or Aircraft Facilities, whoever willfully sets fire to, damages, destroys, disables, or wrecks any aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States or any civil aircraft used, operated, or employed in interstate, overseas, or foreign air commerce.

So yeah, shooting down a drone is a felony.

So, if you see me somewhere on an island, flying a drone, away from people, are you going to be that passenger I somehow annoy and you turn me in? Even after I checked out a drone from ship's security personnel before going ashore?

All I will say is I would love to take the case of the person who shot your drone down. You might get a very unpleasant and unexpected jolt.

  4. In my experience, it has been hit or miss. Even with having sailed with Princess before, their early book savings depends on the particular cruise. Many are not discounted for early booking, but some are. Since we have tended to sail at peak times, our experience, different from many others, has been no early booking discount or discount on the fare even from established travel agents. That said, we have sometimes received some perks from Princess or a travel agent. The Princess perks are those offered through their current promotion. Travel agents will often provide some additional perks (in our case, moderate in value but still very nice). Your experience or others' experiences may vary, but that has been ours.

  5. Posting here because of wider variety of experiences and idiosyncracies of Princess port stops and combinations. How have you approached recommended immunizations for travel in the Caribbean. CDC recommends Hepatitis A for almost all travelers, even those visiting on cruise ships. Other immunizations are more situation dependent and far less universally recommended. What have other cruisers done? What have your doctors said when you inquired? I have already asked my doctor and will follow his advice as he has been with me for over 25 years. Just curious what the experience and approach of others has been.

  6. Back in 2015 our friends talked us into doing Alaska via the land then cruise. I really didn't want to go...I'm a fan of beaches, warm weather, soft winds...and thought of Alaska as being cold, windy and just unpleasant. I was so wrong and so, so glad we did Alaska. It was truly amazing!! We talked about a once-in-a-lifetime trip, but every time I look at our pictures, I want to go back.

We did the connoisseur tour and felt it was well worth the money. The option of having a tour guide travel with you during the land portion and handle all of the room assignments, dinner reservations, tour arrangements and then to add on all that knowledge about areas we were headed to, driving through, made the trip so pleasant. We also liked that out meals were included and there were no limitations. Our friend who loves crab legs had them every night!! There is a great thread on here by Caribill that provides an enormous amount of information about the connoisseur land tour. Her info was invaluable in planning our trip. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1727858&highlight=Caribill+Connoisseur

I, too, would advise doing the Southbound land then cruise. The land portion was very intensive and it was nice to relax a bit on the cruise. Also, Glacier Bay is not to be missed.

Enjoy your cruise, no matter what you do! And Happy Anniversary. We celebrate our 40th anniversary tomorrow :)

Ditto. We did the same thing and I have the same advice.

  7. My go to is a high quality golf rain jacket. It is both waterproof and windproof. It adds warmth if the weather is cool as in Alaska. Even more important for me is my waterproof bucket hat that is an accessory that is an invaluable part of my wet weather gear. For what it's worth, I'm a former golf professional and got these for playing in bad conditions. Tried using them for travel--first time in Alaska. They were awesome once I got over using them for other their intended purpose, LOL. Retail is about $350 for the jacket and hat. Foot Joy is the brand FWIW.

  8. We are going on a 10 day cruise on the Royal. It notes that there will be eight smart casual nights and two formal nights. Will we be able to know the two formal nights ahead of time (e.g., in the Cruise Personalizer) or are they just announced through the Patters or guessed at based on previous patterns or port days? Thanks for any assistance.
