If it's only transport, it's usually near the Vatican. We took a similar tour a few years ago and it was about a block away. I have "Passage to Rome" booked on our upcoming Brilliance Aug. 29 cruise. I was planning on a Viator Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel tour, but our bus does not depart until 8AM and their latest AM tour leaves at 10AM which is cutting it close as the trip from the pier is at a minimum 1.5 hours.
On the cruise planner, they've added a train which should be faster and not worry about traffic. Very little info on the train, so I have to call them with specifics.
Thank you so much for the info about the bus from the port. We checked the cruise planner and just saw the train option.

Does anyone have any info they could share for where the drop off and pick up locations might be for ships excursions "Rome On Your Own"?, so we can plan our day in Rome.

Just back from Oasis May 17th sailing - tip of the day/week/year
Don't waste your time or bother going to the Windjammer for breakfast lunch" etc. it has completely lost value, food quality etc. you have so many better options, Park Cafe, Solarium Cafe, even the Wipeout Cafe. Food much fresher, friendlier atmosphere, no "pushing and shoving" cleaner, better organized, must I go on. Bottom line avoid the Windjammer!

I am so excited that I saw this post today! My dh and I will be in Rome late February and I was searching for things to do in Rome beyond the basics, since this will be our third visit to Rome. We were able to secure tickets and will add our comments as well.

I am looking to book with AP Tours and the trip ends in Sorrento, the itinerary doesn't mention the option of a ferry back, do you just get given the option on the day? It sounds good, does anyone have any idea of the extra cost for this?
Thank you!
In our opinion the ferry back to Naples might be an option has other posters have suggested. It might depend on the time you must be back on board the ship, time of year, driving conditions, etc.). Our driver asked us the time we had to be onboard the ship (we did factor in some extra time for ourselves). Our driver obtained our ferry tickets, walked with us to the entrance of the ferry for the correct boat and made sure we boarded safely and on time. He also provided us with explicit instructions. It was our decision to take the ferrry and we chose this route back.

Can anyone give me information on AP Tours? We are doing a Mediterranean cruise on 9/23/12. I was thinking about using them for tours in Naples and Rome. Any information would be helpful. Like, type of tour that you did, service and cost compared to other options.
Thanks,
Lorrie
We used AP Tours in June 2010 in the port of Naples. We did a private tour to Pompei, Positano, and Sorrento.
This year, September 2011 we used AP Tours and did the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento, Ravello, and Amalfi).
AP Tours will tailor your itinerary to what you would like to see and do and spend more or less time where you want.
Their drivers (not licensed tour guides) are very professional, courteous, and service orientated. Their office contact (Sarah) is very helpful and responsive to any questions you may have.
Our experience with AP Tours has been outstanding and we are planning to use them again in June 2012 doing a different itinerary.
Our costs were based on a private tour for two people, so we're not sure we could compare. It depends on how many people are in your party, private tour, shared tour, etc.
