  1. I use Crystal or Naturally Fresh deodorant. It comes in a spray, roll on, or a solid crystal that you wet and rub underarms. It is a deodorant only (wont stop wetness), but is amazingly effective with odor. Most mainstream antiperspirants break me out or at least cause awful itching, and I'm sensitive to the scents in them too. I noticed some wetness when I first started using the crystal stuff, but I think it was a rebound from stopping the antiperspirants because now, I don't have much of a problem. Hubby sweats a lot and has problems with odor even though he works in an office and showers twice a day. I had him start using the crystal at night and his preferred antiperspirant in the morning...problem solved! Bonus: I'm not using all the aluminum chlorohydrate and other chemicals too!

  2. I've seen lots of "don't forget the sunscreen" and "buy it on sale at the end of the summer" posts, but I haven't seen any about reading the directions and using it appropriately!

First, it expires and loses effectiveness. Make sure you check the date and/or check that it's a fresh bottle.

Next, sunscreen needs to be applied 15-30 minutes before sun exposure so that it can be absorbed by the skin and work correctly. Even water-resistant sunscreen won't be water-resistant if you spray or rub it on and then jump right in the pool! And even water-resistant types need to be reapplied often. A word about no-rub sprays...rub 'em in anyway! They will leave a lighter spray pattern in the center of your nice tan (or burn) if you don't.

Last, a way to prevent burned buns from snorkeling with your backside in the air for hours: treat your sunscreen like an after shower, all over moisturizer. After drying off (or while dressing if not showering), cover every inch of your naked body in sunscreen- head to toe (including ears, back of the neck, belly even if wearing a one piece, etc). Use about a shot glass full for an average adult-sized body. That way when your bathing suit rides up while you're snorkeling, your buns are already protected. Ditto for when your straps slip a little this way or that.

I have camped at a southern beach for over 25 years with babies to senior citizens, and I grew up on and in the water. I have never burned a kid in my care, and it breaks my heart to see parents using sunscreen incorrectly and then watching their burned babies suffer for it. One sunburn increases the chance of skin cancer developing by 50%, so please don't just "bring sunscreen"- use it correctly!

  3. What a great idea! I'll have to see if DH is interested in this. Like me, he has a plain band and never takes it off, but he's said it can be a pain when doing certain sports. This might be the answer. I love the purple, but sadly, even their X-Small size is too big for my tiny finger :(

Sorry the sizing doesn't work for you! I really wanted the blue (to match my Jeep :D), but the narrower women's style doesn't come in blue. I really wish they had these when I was a little kid. It always bothered me that my dad didn't wear a wedding band due to safety issues with his job (didn't seem to bother my mom). This would have been such a great solution!

  4. I never wear my bling while doing water sports/in port (lock 'em in the safe), but I like having them with me to wear at other times. On the other hand, I feel naked with no wedding ring, and even an inexpensive band could be hazardous depending on the activity. My son found Qalorings and loves his! They are inexpensive, and the flexibility provides comfort when weight lifting, paddling a kayak, etc. they come in several colors but are not shiny and metallic to attract the wrong kind of fish or criminal attention. I'm ordering mine next payday!
