  1. Hello, Have just booked the Eric Lanlards afternoon tea for one of our upcoming cruises. Didn’t realise there may be a no charge afternoon tea in the main dining room?

Just wondering if the afternoon tea is still available on Azura or that has been stopped and only the special one now. Not sure where to look on the PO site to see myself.

Can anyone tell me just how much food you get for the £15? It looks like a lot on the food display stands in some photos, but I’m not sure how many ppl some of the ones in the photos are serving, so wondering if we would be wasting a lot of it.

If u don’t eat all the items are you able to take some back to your cabin? Thinking a nice scone would be nice in the evening! Really we would probably only be after some nice dainty sandwiches (hubby won’t say no to a slider or 2) and a nice scone and cream. So if the free afternoon tea is still on offer we may be better with that instead of paying nearly $100 australian dollars for the three of us.

    Happy cruisin all.

  2. Have you looked at DIYing them? Much cheaper and more fun - only in my opinion!

DIY - def cheaper, we DIY for most, but need times not just early morning, early evening departure, or late afternoon departure.

Early morning arrival could be anything from 1am to say 9am - makes difference to how long you have available to tour and what time you can be off the ship to get onboard. 😊. I'm just impatient too

  3. Wish ours would hurry up and show up. We sail in June and then July on B2B cruises. I know I'll miss out on the e-tickets and luggage tags as we leave home a couple of months before the 2 cruises. Will be downloading (printing if we can) the last night in hotel before we board. Would love to book excursions now. Will keep my eye out now, previously was checking beginning of each month. Now will check each week or 2.

  4. It's hard with bookings, you don't want to miss out, but on my itinerary for both our PO Azura cruises they only show as early morning or early evening for example, no actual times. The PO excursions aren't available yet, and I have a sneaking suspicion that they won't be available until well after we have left to start our holiday ( we leave about 2.5 months before the two cruises which we end on.). One thing I niticed about NCL they opened their shore toyrs a lot earlier, which was good. But oh well different cruise line different rules, but would be nice to have estimated times at least, so could make private bookings instead.

  5. Hi all

Am I correct in thinking that if a price is displayed - for instance as 69.000 ISK.

That when I enter this into a currency convertor that I enter this in as 69900 ISK which returns an approximate conversion of $836.35 aud?

I have seen a note on one of the currency convertors that 1000 ISK = approx. $12 Australia. So is 69.000 how we would write 69,000 so sixty nine thousand, not sixty nine ?

Just to help me with budgets.

    Thank you Dawn

  6. I, and my husband, agree with you John.

Why some passengers think it is 'fashion police' (whatever they are!) I'm not sure.

All cruise lines have rules and regulations that you are supposed to abide by.

If these rules include dress codes then, unfortunately(!) you are supposed to abide by them.

There are a large number of cruise lines that have very relaxed dress codes nowadays, as opposed to years ago, and if people don't like 'dressing up', which some don't, then why don't they go on those.

We're not really into 'poncing up' but wear as to the rules - we cruise on ships that offer the itinerary we want, not by which cruiselines allows us to wear certain items of clothing. The ports are more important to us, than if jeans of any colour are allowed.

Still not sure why certain people feel offended or concerned about what others wear or don't wear - we all paid for our cruises and want to be comfy, whether your comfort is casual/relaxed or the more refined/formal wear. Who cares, whatever floats your boat!

  7. Love the blog, very informative. was surprised to hear Reykavik was cancelled.

We are on Azura next year for a b2b Norway then Iceland/British isles cruises, can't wait.

We booked the Iceland cruise before we decided to also do a Ringroad self drive trip before the cruise, as we wanted to see as much as possible of Iceland. Followed by a roadtrip throughout the UK before boarding our cruises. Can't wait until next year - so reading your blog and seeing the photos is fantastic.

We had actually thought that if we liked anything in Reykavik, we wouldn't buy it on the roadtrip and then have to lug it around with us for the next so many weeks, but as we would be going to Reykavik on the cruise we would purchase it then, as it could sit in the cabin until end of cruise and then we only a few days in London post cruise, now I'm a bit concerned we may miss Reykavik.

Hope you can keep updating your blog on a regular basis. Thank you.

  8. Just wondering a few things -

    1. what is the usual check out time in hotels in the UK In Oz it is normally around 10am - we usually go straight from hotel to port, although we are also looking at airbnb apartments, so we may be able to delay check out.

    2. can you drop bags off early (around check out time of hotel) at the port, even if your embarkation time is later in the afternoon?

    3. Port amenities/facilities - is there shops/eateries that type of thing there - or just toilets, vending machine for drink and uncomfy chairs? Just wondering if there is something to do for those hours awaiting embarkation?

4, and lastly, we will be doing our first b2b - so I believe that we can leave the ship on the 2nd cruise's embarkation day - can we come and go as we please, i.e if we want to go into town have breaky and a bit of a shop around, can we get back on before lunch time if we so desired, or do we have to wait to get back on in the afternoon when new passengers commence embarkation?

Quite excited about our first B2B but new procedures for us to learn. Thank you

  9. We flew Premium Economy our last two trips to USA (for Alaska), but have already decided to lash out and go business class for our Iceland/British Isles cruises. Such a long flight comfort will be most welcomed.

  10. Thank you Roaming Rover, will also check out the delivery to the cabin.

Will check out the other mini bar post.

It doesn't really matter to us, if the rule is changed before we sail, it really is just an added perk to bring it on board for a drink in the cabin, before dinner or whilst sitting on the balcony.

Never had the opportunity on our other cruises to bring any type of alcohol onboard.

Off to check the other post now.

  11. Thank you for the info.

Well hubby may bump his head - he is a bit accident prone on the good days, and extremely clumsy on all the other days!

I'll pack some bandaids (sticky plasters) for him just in case ...:)

Will see how we go, we don't spend a lot of time in the cabin, but I do like a balcony to relax and get some quiet time) and we were limited for choice.

  12. Thank you, yes is a balcony cabin, just wondering as on the images on P&O for a balcony, they show a double/queen bed in one part of the cabin and then a chair/sofa just near the balcony.

So would the pullman bed be over the 2 twin beds (that would be the double/queen if not in use as a triple), or would it be over near the balcony.

I'm thinking over the beds otherwise there would be no reason not to have the two beds connected if you wished that conformation

  13. Hi all

Have been searching P&O threads to see if there were any photos/images of a triple balcony cabin on Azura. I'm at about page 23 of the PO threads. Haven't come across one yet - just wondering if anyone has a photo they would be willing to share?

Our balcony cabin shows as a triple with two singles and a pullman.

Have been in suites and other balcony cabins, but we have actually never had a pullman in the room. I know they can make the cabin a bit tight when pullman is down, was just hoping to get a visual on what cabin will look like.

    Have B255 on Azura.

I know we are quite close to stairs/lifts but think we'll be ok - I don't think any noise from people hanging around the lifts will bother us, we can sleep pretty good! There was only this cabin and the one on the opposite side available for a triple unobstructed balcony.

  14. Have just booked 2018 cruises (b2b) and already there were only 2 cabins left of the variety we wanted. Not sure if that is all that is allocated to Australian cruisers or was for the entire cruising world.

B2b cruises - PO Azura first 7 nights Norway and then 14 nights Iceland, Ireland and Scotland.

We knew the Iceland cruises are very popular so thought it best to book early (glad we did or we would have quite likely missed out on the triple balcony cabin and had to go with a triple elsewhere on the ship, if available.

  15. Interested in this too, so if hubby wanted to take some scitch to drink in cabin (we're on b2b cruises over 21 nights), he could take some Johnny Walker or Bundy on board. Is there a bottle size limit?

And if we were to buy a 2nd bottle at the start if the 2nd cruise that would be confiscated wouldn't it, as no different to just buying a bottle in one if the ports of the cruise?

Think it is good that they let you take a bottle on board to begin with.

  16. Strange that they dropped that port. Wonder if they had too many ships in that day - does that happen?

We had a fantastic day at Sitka, we saw two nearly grown up grizzly cubs fairly close (eeeek) and in the wild, it was one of the most memorable days of our two Alaskan cruise (both being on NCL Pearl).

We enjoyed both Alaskan cruises port wise, but we were disappointed in our treatment by NCL on our lasy year cruise. However, that being said would cruise with them again if the itin. suited.

    Iceland and Norway next yipppeeee.

  17. That shooting was terrible, down at Pier 14, and apparently the reporters on site also got mugged.

We were there in April, our first trip to San Francisco - we didn't really like the area at all - just a general uneasy feeling. We didn't go out in the evenings. We did use the HoHo bus during the day.

I hope you enjoy your cruise and San Francisco visit.

Hoping some locals will give you some honest feedback.

  18. Cost Plus World Market - I did see several different Tim Tams at the one in San Francisco, there is one in LA (Santa Monica Boulevard - at least that is what Google said!).

    Not cheap though.

i think I also saw them at Urban Fare in Vancouver - not a 100% definite - but I do think they were here.

Love Urban Fare... Actually the World Market store in San Francisco was pretty amazing too, lots of different things here - things from all over the world, and even sell liquor too.

There was also this small independent grocery store near the Pan Pacific hotel in Seattle that I think I recall seeing Tim Tams in.

And no, not every one in Australia enjoys Tim Tams - I find them really grainy on my teeth - a very strange texture - but I am in the minority as a non Tim Tam lover - i much prefer a Chocolate Monte!

  19. We completely agree with your approach. It only takes one time for something to go amiss and you will see how handy that binder can be.

    Thanks for the review.

I also do a book with all our itinerary.

Thing weighs a heap (in hand luggage) first part of holiday.

I love putting the folder together and filling it up with things - hotel bookings, tour booking, maps etc etc.

Quite a few ppl put these on a usb instead of printing a hard copy - but we don't take a computer with a usb slot - only the ipad (wish they had the usb slots)

Back to reading the review - we're recently back from our holiday to US and Canada (finishing the 5 weeks with a 10 night cruise on NCL Pearl Vancouver-Alaska-Seattle) absolutely fantastic - 2nd Alaskan cruise can't get enough of Alaska and soak up every Alaskan review too!

Thanks to the OP looks like this will be a good review. :)
