  1. We are booked on the Celebration leaving December 19. My kids are 13 and 15 and have NO IDEA! Wether they really believe or just like the fun of it still, we still do the Elf on a Shelf and I've never told my kids Santa or the Easter Bunny isn't real (tooth fairy just faded out b/c they stopped loosing teeth).

What kind of ideas do you have to drop hints about the cruise? Can be with or without the elf. We will be leaving for Miami on the 18th. I'd love to tell them maybe by the 17th so they can spend that day packing their own crap LOL.

I want it to be really special and very fun and I think I'm just too excited to think of anything particularly great.

We got a taxi/tour and one of the things was the cable car.Sometimes it runs sometimes not.  It ran that day and It was wonderful

I'm wanting to just hire a taxi for the day at a flat rate, do you have a recommendation for that by chance?

  3. Cruising for Christmas! We're stopping at Amber Cove on a Thursday and are available for activities 9 to 4. (dock at 8 and depart at 5)

I'd like to do the following:

    *7 Falls

    *Fort San Felipe

    *cable car

    *Pico Isabel de Torres

*Beach time (picturesque and not crowded but cheaply accessible)

Do you think these can be managed? I'm concerned about the falls excursions. They say anywhere from 2.5 to 5 hours (different companies but same discriptions). And my understanding is it's an hour away? What other suggestions for actually experiencing the island? (Not the copy and paste touristy stuff like dolphins that you can do almost anywhere, I wanna see and feel D.R.)

I recently booked a cruise that stops at Grand Turk on HAL's Rotterdam. We are scheduled to be in port with the Carnival Celebration. I've been here with the Carnival Magic with 4,500 passengers and we were fine but it was a little crowded, especially in the pool area. Should I look at excursions or private beaches instead of sticking with the free chair areas?

I'll be on the Celebration Dec 21 for Grand Turk! So excited! But there are no private beaches btw. Everything is public and freeeeee. We are going to rent either a jeep or cart and explore and duck off to any beach area we want and just enjoy the geography. I'd do some whale excursions but it won't be season.

  5. I've searched and didn't find what I was looking for.

We'll be in Nassau on a Sunday. I'm cruising with my bf and 2 kids (14& 12.5) and it's their first cruise. I've been to Nassau 3 times before. Twice I went to Junkanoo (off the the end on our own no beach bar or chairs and once to the little tiki hit looking area with chair and drinks) and was just fine with that. Water is gorgeous and I don't mind the view of water and the little lighthouse. Once I went with gf's on a Breezes day pass. Also great time. This time I'm wanting to find something tween friendly but also a little more private/romantic and with basic facilities ie we don't need her skis parasailing etc but bathrooms and a snacks/drinks would be great. Which brings me to Love Beach. Seems great. However I can't seem to track good info on transportation there. Some say no issues allow 45 min for the bus some say Sundays are different and I didn't find the bus website to explain further. I also can't find pricing for the rentals Nirvana Beach Bar provides. The idea is to go less crowded and use the bus on our own vs some of the big excursions and day passes and save a little cash so we can spend more on other stuff. Trying to track down info to see if it'll even be a savings when it's all said and done as going to Love will be less convenient.

I would not take your kids if they are under 12. Everything is closed for the young. I don’t have the fun times, it’s all on the app when u r on the ship. They had lots of trivia in the red frog pub. 😩 boring. At night the entertainment was ok, just not enough. After the show u would have to sit around for hours till 11:30. Quest was funny as crap. Cruise director was nothing but the fun squad was great. Definitely get a fan once on board. It’s hot

Why were you sitting around for hours? Did they have the dance club open? Karaoke? Is Quest a show?

We have a group of six adults and three kids going to Nassau on a cruise in June.   I have done some research and since we are not going anywhere we can snorkel on this trip, we would like to try to snorkel in Nassau.   It seems that without a tour, we would need to go to Love Beach.  (We don't want a tour, they always turn out too hard for the kids and we wind up seeing nothing because we spend all our time trying to help them!)

What would be the best economical option for transportation for eight?  Will it be safe to go there?  I have read we can take the bus, but we would need to pray we can get a cab ride back in time.  Plus, I don't know what the cost would be to get back.   My cousin was scammed in Nassau on their cab ride and they wiped them out of money.  They wound up in Nassau with no money, two kids and they didn't even have enough money to buy a water.  Nope.  We can get a car to drive us for $60 an hour, but they will be sitting there for three to four hours while we were at the beach and I don't like anything hourly when we are out of the country.  They can take us for a long drive around the island and I would have no clue.  So, flat rate is the best IMO.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!  After getting scammed in Jamaica, I am very skeptical.  We have been to many countries and I always do my homework.  We were scammed in Jamaica for the first time in four years of traveling. So, I want to make sure we know what we are doing when we go to Nassau.

What did you end up doing? I'm going next month but on a Sunday and I'm seeing they don't have busses on Sundays?

We were in Bahamas last year, Nassau,  Did DIY stuff.  We did go to Junkaroo Beach.  like someone said, it's a 15 minute walk.  altho my husband has mobility issue so it took us more like 25 minutes.  i also walked around Nassau in the morning by myself.  saw Gregory's Arch, the policy station, Queen's Staircase, post office, cigar and choc place, and other sites that were recommend on the boards here.  do a search in this forum for DIY or walking maps.  great info.  lots of shopping along the main street also and in port.  i have fun collecting the charms out of the various stores.  you can get coupons for "free" charms and a charm bracelete on the ship.  cheap novelty, of course, but fun.  get an order of the Conch Fritters and try the hot sauce from the kiosk right on the pier.  Yummy and i generally won't eat conch or hot sauce but both were delicious.

Where do you get the charm coupons?

Trip overall was fun. The beds were the best cruise beds I have ever slept in. Only 1800 guest and 1100 crew. Unfortunately the ship is very hot. The AC is the worst. They brought me a fan and it made the cabin bearable. Shows and dining room food was good. Ship is very small and not a lot happening. Definitely will not ever return to that ship. I am not a carnival fan because they tend to pack u in. During this time it’s the best. I will be back to my favorite oasis class Royal ships.

Do you have pics or screenshots of the funtimes? What do you mean by not a lot going on?? I sail her on the 16th and I'm taking my kids and bf for their first cruise so this makes me nervous

To start, a lot of people will tell you DO NOT use a debit card. I don't do credit cards, I use mostly cash in my daily life, but I've also been using my debit card for certain things for years. I'm just careful about it and haven't had any trouble as of yet. Knock on wood. The big reason debit cards aren't recommended to be used to fund your S&S account is because of the holds Carnival places on credit/debit cards. For 2-6 day cruises, they start with a $100 hold. For longer cruises, it's $200. Then they continue to place holds as those thresholds are exceeded. So with a debit card, it's a matter of how much money is in the person's bank account and is it enough to fund an S&S account w/ holds. Also, the bank doesn't always release the holds right away, so that money could be tied up in holds even after the cruise. Another issue is that debit cards aren't as well protected against fraud as most credit cards. I really don't think there's much threat of that just using it on a S&S account, though. With that said, if anyone thinks they can manage using a debit card on their S&S without problems, I say that's their prerogative.

Gift cards would certainly avoid any possible problems with their bank accounts. Those have to be added either at the terminal or when you get onboard. Lines at Guest Services are always a factor, but there are times when the lines are short, or none at all. Adding gift cards using one of the kiosks may or may not work...success varies.

Another option is Cruise Cash. That's bought before the cruise from the online FunShops and is on the person's S&S account as soon as they get onboard. It can be bought in different denominations, too (up to $500 max per cabin). Just keep in mind that Cruise Cash is non-refundable, use it or lose it. But there is a workaround for that. If you have any Cruise Cash left over, you can go to the casino, add those funds to your Player's Bank on a slot machine, spin once or twice, then just cash out.

It's hard to say how much they should start with. Everyone spends differently. I can go on a cruise with $100 in my S&S and not always spend it all. My son, who's now 18, usually starts with $100. He plays in the arcade a lot, which is also something we like to do with him, and he likes to buy an order or two of crab legs. Our next cruise is an 8-day on Horizon, and he's taking a friend, so he might spend a little more than he typically does. The teens in your party could always take some extra cash with them and add it later if needed.

Where do you get crab legs?!?! 🤣

  11. She's no Whitney Houston but she does Billie Ellish pretty good! She still gets pretty nervous though. I'm lucky in that several friends run karaoke around town and base and bc her dad is military I can take her to places on base so she can participate. The mister is however pretty awesome with a range of styles and always has crowd approvals wherever he goes. They are all new to cruising and are going to have a blast no matter what!

  12. Ah! That would explain it then lol. I've never cruised with my kids before so I never really paid attention to what they were allowed to do as far as those kind of activities. DD loves singing karaoke as does the mister (I'm divorced but can't figure out how to change my username🤦🏼‍♀️) and I'm looking forward to her being able to participate.

  13. Honestly gambling period lol. I do know the basics of poker (I'm not winning tournaments any time soon), have no clue what I'm doing on slot machines (they are confusing to figure out). But I'm interested. I did play some slots on my last cruise. I managed to break a slot machine and win a few bucks 🤣 What are the perks to playing on a cruise and how much do you need to devote to start receiving offers?

  14. Ok so we are looking for a Sandals type day at the end of October.

    Musts:

*full open bar, not just margaritas and rum punch

    *swim up bar

    *nice beach

*loungers with tiki hut shades or umbrellas

*decent food, not expecting 5 star but more than burgers & dogs

    Preferable:

*water activities like snorkel gear, hobby cats, kayaks etc

*no kids (or very few) we have 5 but they aren't coming and we'd like to embrace the calm and quiet

    *hammocks would be a plus

  15. We are going end of October on the Triumph to Cozumel and Yucatan. I love the beach and a good drink but really I can do that anytime. I would like to see ruins. Since we are going to progreso anyways is it worth doing an excursion from Cozumel to mainland ruins and then again from Progreso or just spend the progreso day visiting ruins and doing something else in Cozumel? For now cruising is the best way for us to explore and see world history and culture. I just feel like spending the day at a beautiful beach would waste good opportunity but also don't want to waste money either if it doesn't make sense to travel to the mainland from Cozumel. If that makes sense?

  16. We have been onboard on two hurricane cruises. To keep passengers safe and the ship from damage from hitting against the pier you could be missing your port day. They would take you away from danger and have a sea day. For your question about Bermuda the docks would already have ships in port and no room for Fantasy the same for Freeport. Hope his helps.

I didn't even think about the ships already going there. It would suck to miss the port as we have a fantastic day planned and I really want some salt water therapy but if we do it is whatever. The 4 of us will have an awesome time regardless.
