  1. Oh that is awful! I feel for you! That sounds like a very upsetting experience. Hopefully your bag will show up. Perhaps the concierge at the hotel where you are staying can give you some advice on where to buy larger sized clothing. They must sell it someplace. When you get reimbursed by the airline, the clothes you buy now will become interesting "free" (in terms of cost, certainly not in aggravation) souvenirs.

  2. I don't know if this will help you, but I have a rough go of this as well when I cruise, and in my "self-research", I have found that scheduling 3-4 additional vacation days after a cruise helps. Being in a stationary position at work, and trying to use a computer is almost impossible. By taking a few extra days, I can make sure I get outdoors and see the horizon to keep the queasiness under control, take plenty of naps if needed (it is truly exhausting to feel that miserable 24/7), and taking xanax and bonine for those 3-4 days helps me "reset" quicker. Typically, I am quite uncomfortable for an amount of time equal to the cruise - i.e., a 3-day cruise, I'll feel a bit better after 3 days, a 9-day cruise will take 9 days. It takes about 2-3 weeks for my equilibrium issues to be totally resolved.

Hoping you are feeling better soon!

  3. I'm so sorry to hear you're suffering with this. It's awful. I get the same thing. I'm miserable and trying to keep from falling over or throwing up after a cruise. It takes incredible focus to do even the most basic of tasks. For me, it usually resolves itself the same number of days as the cruise was (9 day cruise = 9 days of recovery afterwards). I've tried taking bonine or dramamine afterwards, but it really has no effect.

After our last cruise, I said, "I can't do this anymore", but that was 2 years ago, so I'm doing it again. : ) I did schedule a few extra days off work this time so I can stay home, rest, and hopefully recover quicker.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

  4. Congratulations! Our bucket list cruise (Europe) is coming up soon and that was booked maybe 18 months out. I have done enough research to feel like I've kind of done the trip already. I've watched countless videos of sailing out of Venice and into each port we're going to; I've looked at satellite images from Google maps to view each port, and I know where to turn left, right, and where to go for lunch, ice cream, krempita... My travel document is full of restaurant suggestions, things to see, do, walk by, notice. To me, the research and prep work is part of the fun of traveling.

It will be here before you know it!

  5. We are stopping in Athens in the end of August and I was thinking of having lunch at the Rooftop restaurant in the Grand Bretagne. But now I'm wondering if we should/could find something a bit more affordable. Does anyone know of another nice rooftop restaurant in Athens that has a great view of the Acropolis?

  6. My husband and I are going to be spending time in Venice prior to our cruise. I am choosing to travel light - a small carry-on bag for clothes and a tote bag or backpack. In the interest of flying light, I would like to purchase certain products in Venice when we arrive - specifically shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and sunscreen. My question, for those who have purchased these types of items in Venice, did you find sunscreen equivalent to a 30 SPF or higher readily available? Based on your experience, do you think I'll find it at a supermarket (which is where I'm thinking I'll probably pick up the other items - please correct me if they don't carry those things at a supermarket like Coop in Piazzale Roma), or will I be better off at a pharmacy?

    TIA!

  7. I've actually been thinking about this. I'm a light packer and I'd like to be even more of a light packer. I found a dress that is a quick drying fabric and I was thinking about wearing a bathing suit, covering that with athletic gear, then the dress and wearing that on the flight to the cruise. I can launder all that stuff in the bathroom sink and let it dry overnight. I'd have to bring some undergarments, a scarf or two and probably one extra pair of shoes, but I could (in theory) wear that dress, bathing suit, or athletic gear everywhere and "pack" in a one gallon ziploc bag. I'd love to give that a try, but I don't know if my husband would be okay with that. I'm aiming to do our next cruise with a backpack and a 21" wheeled carry-on. Just to see if I can...

  8. I have no help for you on the hotel situation - but we are the Star the week before you! We are opting to stay at the Best Western Olimpia pre-cruise. I want to be close to the port, have A/C and an elevator. No matter where you decide to stay, I hope you have a wonderful trip!

  9. You'll love it! We went a few years ago, but as others have said, it's a quiet beach, calm water, beautiful view, there are chairs and umbrellas (for a fee), restrooms, food/drink - it's a lovely beach day for a couple or a family looking for a relaxing beach day. You do hear the planes, but you're sitting on a beautiful beach in St. Thomas - a few planes aren't the worst thing. :)

    Enjoy!

  10. Grace #11, please post how your new Bernie Mev's work out; do they have plenty of support for all-day walking on shore excursions?

    Thanks!

I ordered the Catwalk and the Victoria. The Catwalk wouldn't have near enough support for me with my foot issues. It was a comfortable shoe, but my foot pronated to near flat in it - so that would be incredibly painful in about 10 minutes. The Victoria has much more support, will accommodate an orthotic (but probably not something like an Arizona brace unless one orders a larger size) and it was very comfortable even over a bunion and although being incredibly lightweight, the sole felt very sturdy. The Victoria is definitely a keeper! I normally order a 9.5W and I ordered a 40 in the Victoria and it was a perfect fit.
