  1. Don't your kids go to school? You take them out for a week in Oct/Nov?
Yes 2 out of my 3 kids are in school(1st and 3rd grade this coming year), and we usually pull them out of school for a week every year for a cruise. Due to work schedules and cost that is the time frame we can go. Our school system has never given us a problem with pulling them out and if they did they can go pound sand, my kids my choice not theirs. With that being said we try and our trips fun and educational by visiting museums, nature centers, etc. Last year they sent home a packet of stuff for my kids before we left so my kids didn't fall behind and my son made a poster board when he came back to show his class mates where he went and interesting facts about that country.

  2. Does ncl do anything special for kids on cruises that fall on the week of Halloween ie. Tricker treating, costume contests? We took our kids on a carnival cruise over Halloween a couple of years ago and they had a blast. Debating on doing a carnival again or trying ncl for the first time. Prices are comparable for the 2 cruises I am looking at. Ty

  3. the tickets thru your congress person died a couple of years ago

as I understand two factors contributed:

word about it exploded on the web and # of requests went WAY up ... each rep had only so many free tickets and in the end there were too many unhappy requestors

and the private management of the visitor center changed at about the same time - which came first?

That is too bad. It made it so we could actually afford to go see ksc.

  4. When are you going on your cruise? A few years ago we stopped at pc and went to kennedy space center. I got a hold of my state representative and received 4 free passes for is. All we had to pay for is the rental car and two more tickets for my parents. My wife wasn't interested in going either but afterwards said it was one of the coolest tours we've done.

  5. If the space center is of interest to you there may be a possibility of doing it for free! If the still do it I requested tickets from our local congressman. We got four free tickets to Kennedy space center. If you Google "free tickets from congressman" there are some articles that tell you how to do it. Ksc is really cool and even my teenage sisters who where complaint about going thought it was neat.

  6. We are booked for the Halloween cruise on pride and was wondering if we need to bring candy for trick or treating? Also when will they do trick or treating? The 31st falls on a Monday which if I remember rite is the first elegant night in the mdr. This our first Halloween cruise and both my kids who are 4 and 8 are excited lol.

  7. My husband is in the restaurant industry and he said the exact same thing!

I work for coke and these fountains are a lot more involved than a normal one, maintenance wise. Still though I wish they would install them they are neat!

  8. Sorry if this has been asked before, but if you don't finish the free bottle of wine that they give you in the steakhouse on the first night do they give you the bottle so you can drink it in the mdr the following nights? My wife asked me to post this she is pregnant and can only have a glass of wine a day and I don't like wine so a bottle will last us the whole week of the cruise. thanks dj

  9. So glad this thread came up I've been lmao which is nice considering I have been sitting in the same place for about 3 1/2 hours on the ohio turn pike waiting for a accident that is a couple of miles up the road to b cleaned up!

  10. Slight hijack. :o

I was looking at the shore excursion list, searching for alternatives to a day at Disney or Sea World, and the Manatee Cove Kayaking excursion caught my attention. Has anybody done this excursion? I found a reference and review to it through a kayaking website, but not through any of the cruise line websites.

Apparently it's only 7 miles away from Port Canaveral. It looks very interesting and like something that I would do if I ever took a cruise that stopped in Port Canaveral.

My wife and I did that a couple of years ago when we sailed out of Baltimore. It was a blast, we had a manatee come rite up to our kayak to the point that I actually got to touch it. We also saw river dolphins up close. We would do it again! The only problem we had was she had never kayaked before and I have so it kinda turned into a argument for a couple of minutes, finally she gave up and I fit all of the paddling. Lol the guy warned all couples that it has let to a lot of couples fighting.

  11. What time are the rooms typically ready for guests by? Trying to time so that we can get to time so we get to the port, check in and be able to go straight to the rooms and drop off carry on's? We only live a hour from the port so I was kinda of thinking of being dropped off at the terminal at about 1:30. Tia

  12. This statement was in the Important Information section of the Fun Times when we ported in Key West in April. I'm sure the same restriction applies to Port Canaveral.

"Please be aware you are prohibited from taking any packages, boxes, or restricted items ashore. Also, it is prohibited to take any fruit, vegetables or food ashore with you. Landing any such items is a violation of United States Law and may result in a fine."

Thank you that is what I figured! I guess we will see if the driver will stop at a store real quick while we run in and get some stuff, hopefully they don't charge extra. Thank you everyone for the responses!

  13. We will be on the pride in January and one of our ports is port canaveral. We are trying to stick to a budget with this cruise. We got some passes from our congressman for half of my family (7 people total) for Kennedy space center, and already arranged our private transportation. Our only hang up is food while we are there because it seems like when my wife and I were there a couple years ago it was kind of expensive to eat there. Now for the question! My moms friend said on their last cruise they ordered sandwiches from room service and packed them in a small cooler and took them with them to eat while in port. I take whatever the lady says with a grain of salt! So I was wondering if anyone else has ever done this? Tia

  14. Oh no it's not. It's very much an American thing (says the wife and mother of 3 hockey players, who has a mudroom that smells like a locker room). You can't grow up in Michigan without hockey. What's football??!

No..you won't get pre-season onboard. It's hard enough to find pre-season at home. I'm with you; I'd MUCH rather watch hockey.

And if I may add to the consensus: GO WINGS!!!!! (3rd generation fan)

Lol we Michiganders love our hockey lol. What area are you from? I live in east pa now but moved from the Grand Rapids area about 8 years ago.
