  1. I have them do a bag of laundry each day. It enables me to travel light. And it helps keep my room smelling fresh.  However, I always plan that they can, and have, lost my laundry and returned to me someone else's laundry. It only happened once on 20 cruises. So, I don't risk it and travel too light.  Also, my whites are always some other shade when returned. I have learned to expect and accept it as the best they can do. I go home with a suitcase full of clean laundry.

I always travel solo.  My best worst memory was being placed at a table for 4.  It was me and a newlywed couple!  I was seated with one to my left and one to my right and ate while they gazed across the table into each others eyes!  It was really uncomfortable for them and me.  Needless to say, I did not return to that table the rest of the cruise.  At another time, I was seated at a table for 10.  It was a large group and they spent the first 2 meals trying to set me up with "Gretta" who had lost her husband a year ago.  Again, I was uncomfortable.  Scared for life, I tend to request a table alone or go to a specialty or Windjammer.

  3. I don't flaunt my status to push others down nor do I attempt to use it to get special attention from RCCL. I am humble about such things.

     

    To me, the only value my status holds is that fellow customers may use me as a resource of information. Since I have cruised more than once, I might have a wee bit of advice or experiences that may be of interest or be helpful to others.

     

    In other words, fellow customers might say, ask that guy, the one over there with the real tan, he might know.

     

    Status is not about what's in it for me (RCCL doesn't offer much). Status is a symbol of my experiences that I have to offer freely to my future friends.

     

    Do the elevators only go up and down? I know the answer to that one.

  4. When a company makes it difficult for customers to conduct business, it raises a red flag. The red flag has been waving for years.

     

    There is a great opportunity for someone to swoop in and clean house. It's not rocket science. Being the best is often easier and cheaper than being good enough.

     

    From the Frankenstein website and the flavor of the month pricing schemes, they are their own worst enemy. I would not be surprised if the on-board booking folks are as frustrated as the customers.

  5. I suspect the port is visited due to contractual obligations. There is always the possibility that port fees are cheaper than other ports as well.

     

    Although many seasoned cruisers seldom leave the ship while at that port, I am sure that newer customers would like to explore.

     

    I am happy to say that I have done about everything there is to do at the Caribbean ports over the years. Today, my destination is the ship itself. As such, I long for the day when my favorite ships sail somewhere else so that I can once again explore.

  6. I will go into the technical details. The main problem with the RCCL web site is bad cookie data. The cookie information is sent to the web server from your browser. It contains data from your last visit. Unfortunately, some of the data in the cookie was specific to your prior session and is no longer understood by the current version of the web server software. In many cases, the software crashes thus causing the browser to display a blank page or an error.

     

    Your solution, to use the "private window" or "new in private window" will cause the browser to receive a new cookie as the old cookie can not be accessed from the "private" session. As such, you successfully connect and browse the current version of the web site.

     

    Another solution is to delete the RCCL cookie from your browser, or delete all cookies. But, I like your solution better.

     

     

    A browser cookie differs from an oatmeal raisin cookie from the Windjammer!

  7. Getting insurance is an excellent idea but, RCCL's problems haven't been caused by insurance issues. They've been caused by horrible decisions followed up by horrible customer service..

     

    Horrible decisions by people trying to catch a cruise ship at the risk of loosing their lives. I'm sorry, but if someone says that I am going to loose $5000 unless I travel into a hurricane to catch a ship, I would stay away from the hurricane and battle for the $5000 from RCCL at a later point in time. I would be a fool to pursue the $5000 by showing up at an empty dock in a hurricane.

     

    Blame RCCL for telling you to go to the port? If they told you to jump off a bridge, would you? Let me ask, who cares more whether you live or die? RCCL, me, or you? The correct answer should be you. As such YOU should make the decisions about your life and not blame RCCL. Your financial matters can wait for another day. You have access to the exact same information that RCCL does as it pertains to the weather, the port, the roads, hotels, airlines, etc. Take control. Buy the insurance. Don't blame others.

  8. I wore my dressy speedo and dressy sleeveless t-shirt and dressy flip-flops.

     

    Nobody said anything so it must be okay.

     

    I kid.

     

    The bottom line is that, if I feel like I have to ask others for permission, the answer is NO. I make my own decisions but I ALWAYS error on the side of dressing nice and I have never have an issue. Its not about ME, its about others. I stay well away from the gray area of the dress code.

  9. I am usually in such a rush to belly up to the trough that my hands are still slightly wet with hand sanitizer while handling the utensils. Just maybe that will kill a germ or two. Once I reach the table, I will grease up again if I suspect that I have touched something with potential contamination.

  10. Yikes! Anything with a bunch of (D) endorsements can't be good. It usually ends up costing me money.

     

    I am guessing that this is nothing more than a government shake down of the obviously upward trending cruise industry for MONEY. They see success and they want a cut.

     

    All of he RCCL ships on which I have cruised have been well behaved, well patrolled, and very safe. Oh sure there is an occasional crazy passenger that jumps or tosses someone overboard but all the money in the world wont stop that. The root cause of the problem is the person, not the hotel room.

     

    Oh sure, it would be nice to have video of the event so that YouTube can stay in business. But crimes happen every day without any video and somehow our legal system and we seem to survive.

  11. I am amazed how some folks, perhaps loyal to royal, make excuses for them or downplay the low rating as if it were nothing or by siting one seemingly frivolous example. To some, passing is good enough. Not in my world.

     

    High scores are something of which to be proud. A passing grade, especially when the government is giving out the grades, is nothing to brag about. This "everyone gets a trophy" culture is downright dangerous.

     

    Achieving a high score is a challenge but seemingly easy for the majority of RCCL ships. Therefore, it proves that it is indeed possible. I suspect the root cause of most of these problems is lack of training and poor management at the individual ship level. Training is a never ending challenge given the high turnover and language barriers. Fortunately technology can solve this training problem quickly and easily.

     

    I am a loyal customer of RCCL because they strive to achieve a score of 100. We laugh when we see other cruise lines achieve 85. Gross!

     

    I can't wait to see new inspections pertaining to pet poo and urine flush out in the coming years.

  12. I know of someone who had a small dog that alerts them when a seizure is about to happen. I have no idea how the dog knows, but that is really not the point.

     

    The point is, there are legitimate service animals for many things. However, many...unfortunately my cousin is one...go online and get certificates for "emotional support animals" (that is what my cousin has) but they have never been under treatment for emotional issues, seen a doctor for emotional issues, been in ad hoc group sessions for emotional issues or, in any other form or setting, have been thought to have emotional issues. Those are the problem people.

     

    In my opinion airlines, cruise lines, trains, hotels, etc. should require something from a doctor and there should be a requirement of documentation that a certified trainer has performed specific and specialized training that enables the animal to provide the assistance a doctor said was needed.

     

    Unfortunately, there is no national standard documentation such as a passport. Since the travel person can not possibly be an expert on all forms of doctor permission slips and be able to spot forgeries, we need one standard form of identification. A service animal passport of sorts.

  13. True service animals are welcome in my world. Unfortunately, it is difficult to profile service animal "posers" and their dishonest owners. Who am I to judge? But I am certainly willing to hire someone else to be the judge. Obviously, there needs to be a single certification board granting credentials rather than 150 web sites that provide said credentials. If the public had confidence in the system, then the public would easily accept service animals. Right now, it is trending towards hostile future. Its never too late to improve the system. Call your politicians.... again.

  14. The web site actually costs them business. I am often surfing for a last minute trip and shopping around the RCCL web site to make a purchase. I search different ships. Then, all of a sudden, I start getting error pages. After a few presses of the refresh button I give up an go watch television. Its their loss, not mine. Many times, while I am surfing, all of my filter criteria simply disappear and I have to start all over. I am embarrassed for them.
