  1. This last cruise was our first with Medallion.  We loved it for being able to locate shipmates, view our account and accessing our room.

As a coffee fiend, it was nice to see the specialty coffee available at the pastry shop and Princess Live.

  2. Alaska was our first cruise and we had a balcony.  We would do a balcony in Alaska again.  We saw so much wildlife from there, and when nearing the glacier we had prime viewing and photography.  When we were out on the balcony, my husband and others would call out when there was something to see. Bring the binos!  We slept with the door open every night the air was so fresh.  We have had interior on every Carribean cruise we have done because we spend lots of time out at the pool or outside seating areas.

Hope you enjoy your cruise whatever you choose!

  3. I want to gift the balcony breakfast to a couple we are sailing with.  Do I need to select both them, as in the price is per person?  Or that is the price for the couple?  I thought it was for the couple, but then I saw it said "each" so then I was second guessing myself.

Also it says I need to select the day.  Can I not just have them deliver the card to the room on embarkation day, and they select the date?

  4. We are fresh back from our ABC cruise, and Woodwind was the highlight of the trip.

There are two snorkel stops off Klein Bonaire. Both were amazing! There is also a photographer who takes some amazing photos, and if you are interested in purchasing, bring a little extra cash. The staff on board are incredibly helpful and accommodating. If your mom isn't comfortable in deeper water, they have life jackets, pool noodles, etc., available to use. If your mom wears glasses, they also have prescription masks. They also have full suits, rash guards, head coverings, socks available. All these at no additional charge. If your mom gets off at the first stop, and decides it is not for her, she can remain on the boat no problem.

in regards to moving about the boat. There isn't much in the way of hand rails. However, if you sit as close to the rear as possible, it will mean less movement. It is a ladder on the back, and your guide will remove your fins prior to climbing up. The kind folks on board will take your hand and assist you. To get in, some used the ladder. I just slid my bum off the back.

If you contact Dee at Woodwind with your concerns, I am sure she will be able to answer any other questions you may have. Dee, Ulf, and crew members are all top notch.

  5. If you like good to great food and a small ship experience, try Windstar. Depends on your tastes though... No 'Off-Off Broadway' musical, kids, flow riders etc. and just the one nightly venue with live music. No waiting for tenders or lining up for most things. The ships can visit places that others can't get to, so there are significantly less folks on the island than the big ships in the bigger ports.

    We loved it.

Can you tell me a bit more about your Windstar experience? I checked out the website, and I'm interested. Not that we haven't enjoyed our Princess Cruises. We don't usually do the Theater shows, but enjoy the comedians and live music. We want to do Panama, and Windstar has some interesting itineraries. I see they are currently having a sale, do they also honour price drops?. I'm not one to embrace change usually :) but I'm intrigued.

  6. Did you take a taxi? Can I ask what it cost?

About how long of ride was it? Thanks.

No problem at all. We did take a taxi. It was $30 one way for 4 people. I didn't check my watch, but I would say about 20 minute ride.

  7. We were at Blue Bay a few days ago. It was $8 each and included a chair, use of their restrooms, change rooms, and restaurant and bar. I would recommend water shoes, as it's a bit rocky and some coral. A few fish around and saw many with snorkel gear. I would also get there early. A few bus tours came after we arrived. It was quite full when we left at noon.

  8. I can't wait to get back to Bonaire for the snorkelling. Some of the best we have done so far. We did the morning tour with Woodwind, and found them very knowledgeable and helpful. Masks, snorkels, rash guards, full suits, head coverings, and socks all available if needed. We went to two sites off Klein Bonaire and were in three small groups with a guide. Bonaire is not to be missed.

  9. Amanda and Lee- welcome and thanks so much for the kind comments. I am glad you have checked out some of my older reviews too. I think this is #14 with hopefully more to come.

    When are you sailing?

    Norris

We sail on the Crown to the ABC's on March 16th. It can't come soon enough, as I am ready to leave winter behind.

Really enjoyed your Canada/New England review. Born and raised in rural Nova Scotia, it made me a little home sick. And gave me a hankering for some darn good seafood. ;)

  10. If you are reading the Crown Princess review by Bimmer over in the Princess Cruises forum, he's posted some pictures from West Deck. We have a reservation there on our upcoming cruise for dinner. He said its .7 miles from the ship, and a well lit walk and was comfortable doing so after dark.

  11. Has anyone rented one of the Ecoboats in FLL lately? Thinking of doing this over the water taxi after reading some reviews regarding timing issues of the taxi. Was thinking this might be a nice alternative.

  12. Thank you Norris and Carol for the lovely, detailed review. Your photos are amazing! Greatly appreciated! How long would you guess the walk was from West Deck to the ship? We have a reservation for dinner there. Hoping we won't have run to catch our ride! I don't normally order seafood in restaurants (also born and raised in a fishing community), but your glowing review may have swayed me.

  13. Good to know. I know he's had Black and Tan (Guiness/Harp) and Black and Blue (Guiness/Blue Moon), but tends to prefer local micro brewers. Maybe he will find something good at Saint John or Halifax.

Many great micro breweries in Nova Scotia, as well as wineries. Hope he finds a few to enjoy.
