  1. Can anyone advise on the wine selection available at Valletta duty free prior to boarding or will I have to buy at Gatwick duty free?

Quite a good selection and reasonable prices at the “ duty free” shop as you walk through to get on the ship in Valletta , no need to get at Gatwick

  2. We are on the xmas / new year Cruise on Thursday, we have been notified that they are doing a deep clean, so a later departure!, hopefully this will sort the problem out, we definitely don’t want ‘that’ over Xmas !

  3. on rough or windy sea days usually both of the stair access's will be off limits with chains across. though to be honest its hard to fight the wind tunnel that is created let alone run through there! but if you get a good calm day you can be like rose on the titanic with arms out stretched. :'):'):')

Someone less like Rose you can’t imagine!!

But thank you for the thought

  4. Ventura Promenade Deck around the elevated Bow section is almost identical to Crown Princess, no forward area balcony cabins in this area, and the layout is as shown on the YouTube video "Crown Princess:Promenade Deck" This is by far a more simple arrangement to say the least and does illustrate the Ventura layout very closely regarding the elevated bow area of the Promenade Deck. There is also less clutter than shown on the video on the long straight walking area.

    Regards John

Thank you, the video very helpful.

  5. We did a Christmas cruise on Oceana a few years ago. I can't remember what happened on particular days, but I think a lot of ladies wore a red dress on Christmas Day, so I wish I'd known that before I went, as I didn't take one. Obviously you don't have to wear red if you don't want to!

Also, I found a programme of events on the P&O website before we went but it changed during the week, and I didn't realise, so I'd already worn my black dress by the time we had the Black & White night. Next time I would go to reception at the start of the cruise and ask for an up to date schedule of formal nights. Also keep a close eye on the daily newspaper, which tells you about dress code that night.

One last tip, if you are doing freedom dining you still have to book in advance for Christmas Day dinner, so check when they start taking bookings so you get the time you want.

Have fun! We had a wonderful time!

Thanks for that, I have bought a red dress for the cruise, I will keep it for xmas day, we have freedom dining, do you know if the booking is available through the cruise personaliser?

  7. I recently read a review which said that a pax's electrical devices had either failed to charge or stopped working, in particular hair straighteners. The pax bought new straighteners on board and these also failed on first use in the cabin. A member of P&O staff said there was a problem with the electrics and this appeared to be borne out by the onboard shop having virtually sold out of hair dryers, hair straighteners etc.

Have any CCers who have sailed on Britannia experienced problems using or charging electrical devices? I don't use hair straighteners but DD does, and we would want to charge phones and suchlike. I don't relish the thought of having to replace such expensive items.

I also would like to know, we both have iphones and ipads, i will be more than annoyed if they go bang. Surely this has been checked out

  8. Thank you everyone for the replies and links posted. We have booked insurance now with Cover for you, which seems to cover everything from full scale evacuation to a minor bump on the bonce.

We are going with the suit carriers in a case idea and will just get them out when we get to the hotel Friday and repack them Saturday morning.

I followed the cruise critic link and bought a 4way extension lead with 2 USB ports.

    Roll on August :)

re: suit carriers in the case, hubby checked out YOU TUBE packing a tux/suit, no need for a separate suit carrier, the suit goes in the case, we've used this method for the last few cruises, & no creases!

    Enjoy

  9. I'm happy they are listening, but I'll judge based on what they actually do :)

It is easy to say that our comments are being taken into consideration, that doesn't mean that they won't decide to do what they want anyway though...

Does anyone know if this is being trialed on the Balmoral, we are second sitting for dinner, 'pre-dinner show' what a ludicrous idea, cruising with FO will be a no-no with us if this is the way forward.http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/images/smilies/frown.gif
