  1. We did an October 9 night cruise on the Equinox in 2023.

I have cruised on Disney, RCL and this was our first time on X.

I was very disappointed. I didn't want to believe some of the poor reviews... Some serious issues. I am sharing the good and bad from our experience. It might be helpful. This was my 4th cruise.

The balcony room, while had great views and awesome location- Bed: huge, hard pillows for a small bed- didn't make sense. The awesome room attendant did find me soft pillows. The balcony- paint peeling everywhere. The attendant did get me a big lounger as we had a huge balcony.

I can enjoyed fine dining but don't require it. The food on the big buffet- most of it was of poor or cheap quality, though nicely displayed. First night - daughter tried fettuccine Alfredo - a thin taste gravy. So disappointing because any reasonable cook/chef would know this was not good.

I found I didn't want to each anything there but the salads. The ice cream - cheap and most desserts with poor qualitiy at the buffet and in the cafe.

The dining room was so much better. 80 % of what we enjoyed there was nice. Staff was excellent.

Room service for coffee and rolls in the morning was okay.

The excursions offered- not well planned. They don't allow reviews and so you don't realize what others have experienced.

We got off in San Juan Puerto Rico- at sunset, they offer a bus tour. We are then to see the sights the fort but "from the parking lot" and then are taken to a beach- well it's dark! and they offer a bathroom, which is locked... strange.

Other X excursions lacked details to make a good plan as to what you are doing and if it will work for your group.

The Petite Chef was fun- food was just okay. Odd staff.

The entertainment was okay at night. We really enjoyed the comedian.

I enjoyed the RCCL so much more... in 2016 and 2018. But covid changed things a lot and I realize that the cruise lines are struggling.

Just my experience. For 11 grand- will consider another vacation plan. Big disappointment.

  2. I’m excited about our upcoming cruise there. The weather in this part of the Caribbean looks a bit rainy. Are these isolated storms that blow in and out quickly? Will be have some sunny days the end of Oct and early November?

I guess I better bring a jacket and an umbrella.

  3. Wow!
thanks for the advice and counsel. We will look for a nice tiki hut under a palm tree, and find something local on the islands. I appreciate those interested in supporting regulations, and supporting a good time, without delay, for all.

    Happy cruising!

  4. That makes sense, right?!
One of the joys of cruising can be seeing the amazing wildlife in different parts of the world. I have especially enjoyed spotting flying fish in cruises around the Caribbean. We will be cruising the end of October and just wondering if there’s a certain migration pattern for these flying fish.

And of course, along those lines,😄

have you seen the green flash at sunset while on the ship? I must admit I haven’t looked for it too many times, but saw it once, and was amazed. The optical illusion that occurs as the sun sets into the ocean and there is a half a second of a green flash.

    Looking forward to the experience!

Who have stayed in 8107 and 8108 half a dozen times total (so we like them a lot).  There is some morning noise when the ship drops anchor at a tender port.  There is also some noise from the thrusters when the ship is docking.  Other than that, no noises.

There appears to be consistent reports on Cruise Critic about very loud noises in 7107 and 7108 (Deck 7) when the ship is anchoring or docking.

If you have any questions, let me know.

    Oh, very helpful to know.

I am a light sleeper... but earlier riser..

    hmmm.

    Thanks!

  6. Thanks, Donna. This is good to know. I like a quiet cabin... or at least not a noisy location. I was delighted we could get one of these cabins in Jan. when we booked. On RC we enjoyed this location.

We thought the balcony might be larger. I will certainly request a chaise lounge- being on the balcony is a big part of my week! Thanks for the idea!

It will be our first cruise on Celebrity and we are excited.

    Thanks for sharing!

  7. So, our dear daughter is coming and will be sleeping on the couch or the bunk in cabin 8230. Nice that she has the options.

She is a slender adult of 100 pounds- not a 5th grader.

    How comfortable are those "beds"??

On Disney the "couch" was better once they made it up with an additional pad under the bottom sheet.

Thanks for sharing your experience, or rather the teens sleeping experience.
