I don't think there ever was a British Isle trip in Sepember 2021. It's always been just June, July, Aug. Next year - with the addition of Viking Mars to the fleet, it will be Mar, Apr, and Jun to Sept. https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/cruise-destinations/baltic/british-isles-explorer/pricing.html.

Suggest looking at my spreadsheet (mentioned in an earlier post) in which I have carefully tracked what cruises have been canceled after each time the operations suspension is extended.

The September cruise was removed from their web site...........we were going to book it with some friends and he emailed me this  morning saying Viking cancelled it because of the ship being sold to China.
They got offered the 125% or full refund.

We have a Greek cruise (Athens to Athens, Ephesus, but not Istanbul) booked for next May, payment is due next month.  We will probably cancel before full payment is due, given the pandemic.  Even if the cruise sails, I don't think it will be much fun with a lot of restrictions.  We will wait to cruise until a vaccine is widely available and the pandemic is under control.

Sorta our thoughts as well.......we're used to masking up everyday now but not sure how much fun it would be on a cruise.

We are booked on a Mediterranean cruise next May.  We did a Viking River cruise in 2017, and as a result of some issues on the cruise, Viking gave each of us a generous future cruise voucher, which we intended to use on our Mediterranean cruise.  (The voucher said we had to book the cruise within 12 months, which we did).

Our final payment was originally due last May; our TA got that extended to September 30.  When he called Viking to see if we could extend it again, the Viking person he had always dealt with is no longer there.  The new person says they will not extend the final payment date, and that if we cancelled now we would lose our future cruise vouchers.

Is this consistent with everyone else's experience, or are we just dealing with the wrong person at Viking?  FWIW, our TA is a cruise specialist but doesn't do a lot with Viking--he typically uses other cruise lines for ocean cruises.  But we really loved the Viking product and wanted to try a Viking ocean cruise.

    Thanks!

As good as Viking is..........I found them pretty hard core to deal with on issues like this.
As one here stated........their ship, their rules.
I went round and round with them this week on a mail offer we received.......I was shown the fine print.

  4. Just got off the phone with my Viking rep...........we're taking the 100% refund but we will be back.

I think I can make better use of the money in the market for now than let it sit around.
Very very happy with their response.

Scandinavia is similarly cash free. However the cash issue arises for tipping guides & bus drivers per Viking recommendations.

After several trips to Europe we learned to carry coins to use the toilets........and the tipping.

  6. I won't do a long review here, because others have done it and done it better! But here are some thoughts:

We decided to try Viking Ocean after 2 Viking river cruises. We talked to many people on this cruise, and I'd say the vast majority had also sailed with Viking river before. We absolutely love Viking River (in fact, are sailing again with them this fall) and feel that the Ocean experience is very close. Not exact, of course, because the number of people is greater, but a similar feel.

We booked the lowest level cabin, and were very pleased. A lot more room than on the river cruise, and a good size cabin compared to other ocean lines we've cruised. The bathroom was the nicest we've ever had on any ship.

As for the food, we really enjoyed it. Not as highly ranked as Silverseas, but that is in a higher category to begin with, and you pay more for it. The wine and beer flowed freely (we always asked for a full glass before leaving the dining room and took it with us to our evening entertainment - no server had a problem with that).

The included excursions were good - some of the local guides were great. And the ports of call on this cruise are fantastic.

All in all, a wonderful experience. Would not hesitate to book with Viking Ocean again!

How was the weather during your trip?

We are going on same cruise later March 2019

  7. Viking Cruise Line.........we are staying the first two days in Zurich

Tour is a train ride up into the Alps........with several stops along the way

    It's an all day event

This is the second day of our stay at the beginning of our trip.........leaving the third day to start cruise

  8. The one day Alps tour, while we are in Zurich, has already booked up.

We're looking at booking with another company that does the same tour.........has anyone ever done

    this before?

Checked online and there's one called Viator that had good reviews.

  9. Just got back from our trip and wanted to follow up on our hotel choice..........Casa Camper

I would highly recommend this facility to everyone..........over the top service!

It's right off of Las Ramblas..........has a very cool deck area on top and an honor system bar and food area

    Breakfast was excellent

I'd go back to spend a few days here..........just a great place

  10. If you like to drink often at times other than lunch and dinner, Viking offers a "Silver Spirits Package". For a few hundred dollars/Euros, it gives you unlimited drinks at any time and upgraded wine choices at dinner.

But, since we don't drink, this is second knowledge. Should double check details if interested.

    Thanks .....good info

  11. For Viking.

One excursion included free per day.

Beer and wine free at lunch and dinner.

All ships of all lines usually leave at some point in the afternoon or evening and this changes every day.

    Thanks

Viking is probably our first choice although we're looking at Avalon as well

Are you allowed to bring liquor on board?
