  1. My first cruise on the Norway was back in the 80's, I was with a large group of UK travel agents. On the last night we ended up in the disco until late, we were introduced to a new drink called a " flaming guerillas tit"  Can't remember what was in it but it was 3 or 4 different alcoholic shots, topped with 151 rum which was set on fire.

Oh dear...... luckily we'd all gone back to our cabins pre midnight and put our bags out. I awoke the next morning still wearing last nights outfit..... minus my shoes. I searched high and low in the cabin. No sign of them. They could only be in the disco so I hurried along as last disembarkation was being called. It was locked !

I ran upto reception and explained my situation and to my relief they sent one of the staff back down with me and after a frantic search I found one of my shoes.

The second shoe was never seen again.

I limped off the ship virtually the last person to debark and was greeted by said group of UK travel agents. Oh how they laughed.

  2. Barcelona was an awful  embarkation.  My understanding of the S Juan disembark was the ship lifeboats did not allow  for the walkways to be positioned on the ship.   The ship was not at the port wall, pontoons  separated it from the land, So all luggage was taken off first, then when there was no forklift traffic passengers were d`barked, via deck 4 not 6 .The ship new this was going to happen as they informed the crew a few days in advance.

I don't like the ship way to big,  poor design all over the place.

Food  in speciality restaurants was very good, the rest was average.  Service, entertainment  and ports very good. Will never sail on a mega ship ever again.

Re the deaths we heard one death , code fox at 6 am and one stroke in the atrium  one evening

i sail solo and wait till last minute specials (ie: 1 week before sail) where it drops to $50/day or less, plus port fees/taxes. (see my sig)

that means sailaway GTY cabins which doesnt come with perks. ie: no free airfare.

i live within driving distance to NYC but now im trying other ports.

waiting last minute to book airfare is expensive. 😞

What's you plan on reducing airfare costs for last minute cruises?

So let us in on your secret, for late last minute cruises, do you phone the cruise line direct and haggle or use an agent ?

OP said Sydney Canada - it's in Nova Scotia, it was a port added because of speed limits on the St. Lawrence River. It's been a ferry terminal for years - not set up for cruise ships.

No the OP said Sidney (with an i) in Canada.  Thank you for the info re Sydney, I've learnt  something  there.

this question has come up  before and it is always fun and interesting to see how people feel and why.

We have a few: anyplace in Jamaica; the people are so rude though there are a few neat tours

Samana: just feel unsafe there. Daughter bought a bottle of water at an outside market that wasn't even sealed. Needless to say she tossed it.

San Tomas: went there about 18 months ago: nada, trolley trip a waste and the poverty was in your face. If they ever develop the port it night be nice.

Sidney: in Canada; had a great private tour but was just not impressed with the port.

You can tell how subjective this is: CasinoCompChick says Dominica. It is one of our very favorite ports.

Sidney British Columbia ? Which ship were you sailing on ?
