  1. Just be sure to say a cheery HELLO or GOOD MORNING when you enter and have a smile on your face. Their reaction will give you an idea if they are open to a chat or not. Last year there were two buddies from Australia who were in their 60's staying in the studios (this was on the Getaway). :)

  2. Got a great deal on a balcony. It was weird - their site was showing that a Cat. BB Balcony for one passenger was less than an inside/Studio cabin! So what could I do? Booked it of course. So it was solo+lat. member+AARP gave me price of $1,220. (inc. tax, etc.). I chose the Dining (4 dinners) + Shore Excursion package (an additional $15.) for total of $1,235. Yippeeee!

  3. I just wanted to share a quick story that helped reconfirm that doing a cruise solo was a good idea.

I have been wanting to go to Europe for like EVER. . . So in Feb this year I said, SCREW IT! I'm going alone! I am booked on the NCL Epic for a 7 day Western Med cruise out of Rome. . . I feel good about it now and am determined to have a great time!

Did you book a solo cabin?

  4. I was always surprised to see how many young people are nicely dressed; long gowns for the women (not ballgowns, but fancy sheaths). You want to think about the opportunities (many in one night, different backgrounds) to have a really nice picture taken of yourself and hubby. A long, solid skirt with two different fancy tops for you and a nice suit for DH would work well. Enjoy!

  5. NCL Getaway 5/10/14: Miami / St. Maarten / St. Thomas / Nassau / Miami

Hello. I've jumped ship; was going to be on CCL Sunshine in April, but changed my mind late last night. I'll be trying out one of those studio cabins and am looking forward to the Studio Lounge. Yay new ship! This will be my 4th solo cruise. Anyone else going? Lisa

  6. Hi:).....glad you enjoyed yourself. I always sail solo and have

been sailing Celebrity for almost 11 years now. My next cruise

    is next month and I can't wait:D:D

Hi Lois R. I love Celebrity as well and I see we've both sailed on the Galaxy, which I loved, as it was my first ever cruise (hence, my handle/name). I loved your pictures on flikr. Lisa

  7. My most awkward time was when Carnival assigned me for a table for 2 and I was seated across from an older lady from England who was looking for love. I had no love interest in her at all. I could have gone back to the maitre'd and had a reassignment, but kept thinking about how she would feel if I did that, so I stuck it out for the whole cruise. I just shrugged off her forward comments.

Bravo! I too was assigned to a table for 2 with a woman who was a nightmare in attire and manners, but I stuck it out. I made no plans with her for any other time of day, but I knew I could handle dinnertime, being a big girl and all.

  8. Reading all of this posts made me not want to cancel a solo cruise I just booked.

I am going on my first solo cruise on the Caribbean Princess in April out of Houston. I have cruised over 20 times at least in the last 25 years but this is my first solo. I am going on a cruise that is with a single/solo group. (I was told it's OK to be solo and not necessary looking to be set up.) But I thought all the organize solo activities would be fun.

So why am I sailing solo? . . . I think everybody probably needs a break to get away by themselves.

I've been on 3 or 4 singles cruises and 3 solos. I'll be going on my 4th solo this April. Singles cruises are a good option. I've found that a lot of the people in the group are not there to hook up or find a mate. You can be involved in the activities as much or as little as you want. It's a great way to have fun and have dinner companions. Enjoy!

  9. I hope your cruise was very nice. I am curious as well. I am treating myself to a cruise on the Norwegian Sky on January 17th. . . . This is my first cruise so I am a little leary. . . . Also, if there is anyone else that will be going on this ship, please let me know.

You may want to post in the SOLO cruisers roll call (under special interest cruising).

I'll be going on my 4th solo cruise in April. It's better than staying home and feeling frustrated 'cause your friends/family can't go for one reason or another. I've never regretted going solo.

  10. Most of my friends are either broke or cheap. Then I have friends who like to back out at the last minute.I spent a year trying to get someone to go with me. I finally had enough and decided to just go alone. I'm going on my first one in February.

    You've made a good decision.

  11. I'm in the process of setting up my 1st solo cruise!

I've booked a cruise three times in the last four years for my husband and me, and every time he has decided not to go! We lose money, I'm disappointed, we argue, and I go nowhere.

Sooo, I'm going on a cruise solo, and I'm really very excited. . . . Throw in a few good books and I'm one happy woman. :)

    Good for you. Enjoy!

  12. Lisa, . . . are you booking this cruise for 11-07-2014? We have a very active Roll Call already! Ted

I'll keep it in mind, Ted, but it's more than a year away; I don't usually plan that far ahead. 14 days does sound good & relaxing, though. Lisa

  13. Lisa, Since you live in Boston, you might be interested in another Repo.....11-07-2014 (Boston to New Orleans) 14-days on NCL Dawn. Ted

Thanks, Escargo, for the heads-up; I like the itinerary. Your name suggests you may be a francophile. Oui? Lisa

  14. Hey everyone,

I have my second solo cruise next month on Carnival . . . if assigned should I choose Early or Late.

Solo Travelers, in your experience on Carnival (I will be on the Breeze) . . . early dining or late dining?

    Hi Worldsmine.

I've done one solo on CCL (Glory); I was seated along a wall at a bench table for four with one other solo woman who was also from New England. She was not friends material, but it was OK for dinner. I would never make other plans and just not show-up for dinner; I would have at least let her know. She was always there, too. I was on the Breeze earlier this year; I like this ship, especially the Serenity area and the rope walk thing.

    Lisa
