  1. Hi,

I collect Holland America Line Casino chips and playing cards and am trying to expand my collection. You can find my collection of all Holland America Line "stuff" at http://www.hollandamericaline.us/casino-tokens/ and for the playing cards on http://www.hollandamericaline.us/playing-cards/

Most of my collection (plates, tiles, etc) can be found at http://www.hollandamericaline.us

If you have any of the items I am still looking for, or any that you don't see on the site, please email me at tiemen@halpostcards.com

    Kind regards, happy cruising

  2. Hi,

I am a collector of the Holland America Line and I am working on displaying my collection on the web at http://www.hollandamericaline.us . I am still looking for quite a few items, specifically the Ryndam 1996 Mariner tile (windmill without year), other tiles that show on my site that i don't have or don't know about and casino tokens/chips. I am also trying to complete the wine bottles and World Voyage plates. Please browse the site and email me if you have anything for sale or trade (I LOVE to trade and have a lot of trading material). Finally I am trying to complete my Playing Card collection (looks like i miss about 9 cards to have all the HAL complete).

    Thank you for the consideration

  3. Hi everyone,

I have updated my collection with my latest acquisitions in tiles and World Voyage plates. I am still working on the other plates, so that part is still not complete. I am looking for the 1996 Ryndam Mariner's tile (that is the windmill tile without year under the windmill) and would really appreciate if anyone had one I can purchase to make my Mariner Tiles collection complete!!

Browse around in my collection at http://www.hollandamericaline.us

    Happy collecting

  4. Having been absent from this forum for awhile to deal with my ever expanding collection of Holland America Line history, I finally updated a lot of the pages. At the moment my focus is on trying to complete my knowledge of playing cards issued by or used by the Line over the years. Currently known cards are on my collectors site at: http://www.hollandamericaline.us/playing-cards/. If anyone knows of, or has a playing card that is not shown on the site, I would appreciate a hi-res scan, so I can add it. Of course you will be credited with providing the image.

    Kind regards

  6. I just saw 3 or 4 the other day for (I think) .75 cents each. I know there were two different ones for the Massdam (sp) and one each of two others. I'll be happy to go and purchase them and for what I have in them, plus postage I'll send them to you. That is, if they are still there.

Please do, I will gladly refund you the purchase price and the postage. Thank you for going through the trouble, really appreciate it.

  7. He needs most of the latest tiles (the Stephen Card ones). I'm sure some of us have some. I sent him one of our Maasdam tiles:D the collection is beautiful and worth a look at. His page book clearly identifies the ones he is looking for in case anyone wants to help:D

Jacqui, the tile just arrived this morning, I will update the page this weekend ! Thank you so much for the Statendam 2012 tile, it's great ! I hope you will receive your Rotterdam and Volendam soon in good order. Was a great pleasure "meeting" you.

  8. Latest update..... Well, I found out that there are actually tiles made as far back as 1900. These very old ones depict ships and are made by Plateelbakkerij Zuid Holland. Current estimate is that there are maybe 10 different ones. Then in the 1960-s there were issues with the text "compliments of the Holland America Line" on the back and though the exact numbers are not known, one collector in the Netherlands informed me that there may be as many as 50 or more of those. So that brings the total to collect now closer to 300. See also my updates after this weekend on www.halpostcards.com/tiles. Thanks for all the feedback and the tiles you have traded with me, I REALLY appreciate it !!

  9. The HAL President's Club = 5 Star Mariner

    5 Star Mariner = President's Club

This is an unpublished level. It's as close to a secret society as HAL has. We members keep very quiet about it and nearly all of us are discreet and low profile people.

The requirement for this level is 1,400 days of actual cruise days and an invitation (this is to disqualify people with massive numbers of days who paid travel agent rate; lecturers, double days for suites etc.)

There are about fifty of us; Chris at 55 and member since age 49 and I, member since 2010 at age 59, are the 2 youngest.

The pin is a gold washed image of the Halve Maen and NIEUW AMSTERDAM of 1938. The pins are irreplaceable and we keep ours in a safe deposit box at the bank.

    Willem Ruys,

Thank you so much for your posting, it is great to finally have the proper understanding of the prerequisites. Should you carry a camera next time you are at the bank, I would really appreciate a picture of the pin so I can add it on my history site. If you feel you are willing to help out on completing my knowledge of the Holiday presents, please contact me at tiemen@halpostcards.com. I have a prelim website where I am working on the Mariner's Society history and would be happy to share it with you for your comments.

  10. On our last cruise we received "Mariner" tiles which had no appeal to us at all. The whole tile thing seems overdone and we just left ours on the dresser.

We did note that the porcelain is much thinner these days.:D

    Smooth sailing...

If you are referring to the poster tiles of the last 4 years, I agree, they are far less appealing than the "old" type that made you think more of the delft blue tiles that are so representative of Holland in the 18-th century and have that nostalgic feeling about them.

  11. I wonder how you determined that in the history of HAL, there are only 180 tiles. I would have thought far more.

Re: the 180+ tiles total: You are correct, the number maybe about 20-30 tiles low as I discounted the special voyage tiles in my accounting..... Looking at my own collection and seeing what I still need. The Mariner tiles number about 135 total, the Inaugural are about 10, then there are the World Voyage tiles, these number about 40+ and then the special voyage which I guess around 15. I did not add in the 3 tiles from the 1980s (with tri-wave logo on the back) and the special occasions (between 5-10)so that adds up to about 210-220. I could be off on the special voyage tiles too. Good catch, thanks for making me do the math - unfortunately it now increases the number of tiles I am still looking for to 60+... :-(

  12. I remember that about a year ago there were a number of threads going on this subject. Being in the process of trying to complete my collection, I thought it was time to start one again. I have found that between the Mariner tiles, the World Voyage tiles, the special Voyage tiles, the Customer Relations tiles and the "other" tiles there are about 180+ in total. I miss about 40 and am really interested in connecting with other HAL cruise enthusiasts that want to trade or otherwise help me complete what I have. I have most of it documented in a 70+ page book and am happy to share it with anyone who is willing to help fill in the gaps on the tiles I don't have yet. You can reach me at tiemen@halpostcards.com. Happy collecting !!
