  1. If you can afford to upgrade to the Junior Suite do it! We sailed in a Jr. Suite on Independence of the Seas in March and it was beyond our expectations! Soooooo much room! Big balcony! Deep bathtub! Walk in closet (with door) big enough to be a small child's bedroom! Coffee maker in our room. Bed, Sofa plus a chair and ottoman I could go on and on. . . .we were a group of 11 sailing together for my Dad's 90th birthday and we could all congregate in our Junior Suite cabin at one time with no problem (and usually did!) I can't imagine needing anything better (though if they gave me a regular suite at no additional charge I suppose I would take it. Lol.) Oh, did I mention the 2 full size loungers plus table and two chairs on the balcony? HUGE!!!! DO IT!!!!!

  2. Here we are a year after the last post on this subject but still thought I would comment. . .yes, you can book the Chef's table prior to your sail date just as you can make other dining reservations. We sail on the Oasis on December 11th and I just reserved spots for a party of four for the 3rd night of our cruise. It looks like it is offered every night. I had to pay for all 4 of us at the time I made our reservation ($380 total - $95 per person). It's great that you can reserve as on Princess it is first come first serve after boarding the ship for reservations making it nearly impossible to get a spot.

  3. We were in L207, the forward elevators are close, but the buffet is pretty far and past the pool area that is often wet, so you need to be careful walking. We spent a lot of time at the Outrigger Bar and that was a long walk. There are a lot of chairs to stop and rest along the way if needed.

Thank you so much for your answer Beth!

  4. Hi Chris, Thanks for this Live Review. We have booked one of the forward facing balcony cabins on Regal on the Lido deck for our February cruise. (L102). I am curious as to how far a trek it is from the main areas on Lido deck or the nearest elevator to these cabins which are above the bridge. My 87 year old father will be with us and I don't want to walk him to death. . .he is in good shape and very agile but I wonder if this is going to be burdensome to him, being so far forward. If you have a chance and feel inclined to make the trek to that area of cabins, I'd be curious to know your opinion as to whether this is ridiculously far from everything. Thanks!

  5. In April I stayed in the same balcony cabin which you were in on the first leg of your cruise and it was nice. The only thing I did not like about it was the bright lights just outside and right below your balcony which illuminated the promenade area below. They were very bright at night. I have always found it enjoyable to sit out on my balcony late at night and enjoy the quietness hearing nothing but the ocean roaring and in the darkness witnessing the occasional shooting star. This was not possible from this particular balcony given all the activity outside and the illumination, but other than that - nice spot.

My balcony obstruction is not seeing the water when I look down but straight out is no obstruction at all. I would be fine with this cabin :)

  6. We would like to get two of the forward cabins as shown in this post side by side on our next cruise but they are only available on Marina level for our sailing. Lido does also have one forward cabin still available on our sailing as well. Are the forward cabins on the Marina deck (one level up) just as good do you suppose? Looks like there may be stairs between the two levels in that area. . .is that the case? If so we could also book one on each level and still be close by with convenient access. Lastly, if you have two cabins side by side there, will they open the partition between the two? Thanks for your help. :)

  7. We cruised as a party of 4 and all of us were off our ship, (Carnival Freedom) through customs and at the curb in Port Everglades waiting for our departure cab at 7:30 a.m. last year so it certainly is possible. (We did express check out where you don't put your bags out for the porter the night before, instead you keep them in your cabin and just take them with you in the morning and walk off the ship first thing.

Go easy on the packing though as in our case the elevators were really backed up so we ended up dragging all of our heavy, big bags down several decks via the stairs! (Not an easy thing to do.)

  8. Safecruise was good. I would avoid Premier Parking. We paid in advance and when we arrived at the address they gave us it was an empty lot. Later learned they had moved to a lot several blocks away, but never told us. There was no sign saying "we moved". NOTHING! Ended up at Safecruise Parking as they were right next door to where Premier had formerly been. Didn't want to pay twice, but also didn't want to miss our cruise so we took what we could get. Later disputed Premier Parking's charge through credit card company and won. . .but what a headache!!!!

  9. Everything about your post interests me. I am curious about your flights to and your overnight stay in Barcelona pre-cruise, your one carry on bag packing method and if you enjoy all those consecutive days at sea. I will be taking what I've termed my first "backpack" cruise next month. Hubby has always said I overpack for cruises so I am set on proving him wrong. My challenge to myself. . .I will bring only what I can fit in one backpack this time. Should be interesting. . .looking forward to your posts. Thanks for sharing!

  10. I just received this Health Advisory in an e-mail from Princess Cruiseline regarding health screenings in relation to our upcoming cruise (sailing on November 10th). It would seem that cruiselines are trying to address the seriousness of this situation. I imagine if you lie and board fraudulently you would be setting yourself up to be sued by anyone on the ship who felt your flagrant disregard of the ship's health policy put their life and the life of others on the ship at risk. Here is the notification:

"HEALTH SCREENING ADVISORY In light of recent national news regarding the Ebola virus, we wish to advise you that we have adoptednew boarding procedures and screenings following collaborationwith the international health authorities. We are screening for any guests or crewwho have visitedor traveled through countries with a US CDC Level 3 Travel Warning (Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea) or had physical contact with or helped care for a person suspected of having Ebola within 21 days of a cruise departure date. These individuals will be deniedboarding. We are also monitoring bookings for any guests comingfrom these countries. Princess Cruises has in place robust medical protocols that are consistent with public health guidance. We are monitoring the situationclosely, along with our colleagues in the rest of the travel industry. Guests seeking more information on Ebola can visit the World Health Organization's website at http://www.who.int or the CDC website at http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/. 12. I do believe the steward can open the divider even on the cutout balcony, as that is how the maintenance guys clean the balconies. They go all the way down from one balcony to the next all from the outside, this way they do not have to go through all the individual rooms to access them. We only saw them do this once and they warned us ahead of time so we could close our curtains for privacy if we chose. It was pretty cool to see.

  13. I booked a balcony with a cut out (solid white metal walls with very big cut out) on my Divina cuise last year because it was dirt cheap. I truly didn't mind it at all. It was like having an extra room added on to your cabin beyond the cabin itself. (little porch) True, you couldn't see the ocean from bed, but you couild also sit out on your balcony pretty much naked because people could not see in either. It was cozy and gave a real sense of privacy. (There is an upside to almost everything) It would be my second choice over the glass partitioned balconies, but if you get a great deal on such a cabin, I would not hesitate to book. :) Glad you ultimately got what you wanted. Have a great cruise!
