I just spent the last 45 minutes trying to upload some photos, and I think two or three actually worked... I'm sitting at the mojito bar drinking, but I'm not even bothering with drink photos, it's just too frustrating. I think half the fault is the internet but the way the new website works (or, doesn't work)

You are doing much better then I would. Really enjoy your commentary. Binging on your reviews this week. Not sure what I will do next week without you. :p

  2. My last cruise was on the Magic Sep 2017. My friend is gluten free and I am dairy free. On embarkation we went to the main dining room to the maitre d station. They have people there to deal with all your dining needs for the first night. We explained about our allergies and the provided the nights menu so we could 'preorder' that nights dinner in the MDR. From then on our waiters would bring the next nights menu before the end of dinner so we could preorder.

I was disappointed with the lack of dairy free desserts. But overall it was very good system for dinner.

I am not a big buffet person since developing this allergy[emoji13]. But the head buffet person is supposed to be able to direct you to the appropriate choices for your allergy.

For breakfast I usually did the omelette station.

Lunch was usually the Mongolian Wok.

We did eat at Cucina del Capitano one night. We went up earlier in the day to explain our allergies and preorder our food once again.

  3. I am sorry. I am unable to recommend anything closer. We usually always go to Sancho's except for that one time we went to Nachi. My youngest daughter has health issues and my younger brother sunburns in the shade. Our solution was a few of us went early to Sanchos. Staked out the perfect (to us) table. Then they joined us after the noon hour. It was a good compromise for them to enjoy it without being there the whole time. My problem was we did not have phones to check in with each other. I didn't know exactly when they were coming. It all turned out well though. I looked up and there they were.

  4. It is a bit of a drive to get to either Nachi is farther than Sanchos. I dont think running Mom back to the ship will be easy with traffic. You might want to look at options closer to the ship. Nachi had very uneven ground when I was there last Sept. Sanchos seemed to have upgraded their areas when I was there in Jan 2017. I do know you can email Sanchos about your concerns. Maybe that can help you make a better informed decision. I have not tried to contact Nachi but maybe their website might have the details

  5. Sanchos is unlimited with food choices. Nachi you get 1 app, 1 entree and 1 dessert. When they brought my food out i was in the water. They took it away before i could eat it. (I was in the water alot) i asked for the same entree again and they said no I could only have one. [emoji19][emoji852] personally I will not go there again. I will go back to Sanchos. Employees at Sanchos also much friendlier.

  6. Another good option is Nachi Cocum.
Absolutely DID NOT have a good time there. I have only been once but all the drinks tasted like dirty water. (Yes i should not have kept drinking) and the food options were limited to 1 app, 1 main and 1 dessert. Sanchos is truly unlimited. And they have a drink menu. Nachi did not have a drink menu, weird right?

  7. So....

theres no way in heck im paying $79.00 for FTTF. And i bought it every cruise i have gone on since its been a thing.

    My question is this:

Since they are doing the check in times at the port is it even really worth it anymore?

The last 2 cruises I did, we had multiple people with us. So some had FTTF, some did not. We all got on about the same time.

I believe it was because the staggered check -in times eliminated the bottleneck of people trying to check in at once.

It's late and that is the best sentence structure i could create... sorry.

Basically after these past 2 cruises(1 in New Orleans, the other in Fort Lauderdale) I won't buy FTTF anymore. 1. Because the price has been raised and 2. I don't think it is worth it anymore.

At least for check in times

  8. This is a great question and we are booked on the Vista leaving October 7th. Our itinerary was Grand Turk, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten and St. Kitts so pretty much zero chance of that happening although from what I understand the only one that"s 100% out is St. Maarten. We also booked this for the itinerary and it was pretty much Carnival's priciest itinerary due to New Ship and the itinerary. While I understand the circumstances and we are going to have a good cruise regardless of where they take us I have to admit I'll be a bit disappointed if this gets changed to a western itinerary as I could have booked one for 60% of the price of this cruise...oh well, unless they wait to change it until we're on board I can always cancel (bought the insurance) and just rebook a last minute cruise :) Either way, I feel really bad for all the people affected by this storm and having a cruise rerouted isn't really being affected much. Who knows...maybe we stay on the Eastern route and can help with the rebuilding process.

We are leaving this Sunday on the Magic for that same itinerary. I will comebback and let you know if we visited the ports. We have the social media internet package, maybe I will be able to post while on the ship.

  9. Sauces could have butter, cream, yogurt, etc but not sure about kabobs. Many times kabobs are marinated in a spicy yogurt sauce before being grilled. The cooks there would be more than happy to tell you what marinade they use. Rice is usually steamed and seasoned or steamed and stir fried. My husband is lactose intolerant but doesn't seem to have issues with yogurt since whey is usually drained out in the process of making yogurt. If you are a true allergy and not just lactose intolerance I would definitely get there shortly before they open so you can ask those questions. There is also a main chef that is over all of the restaurants who would be the best person to ask about ingredients. We have had the pleasure to talk to him on several cruises about the Indian food they serve on the Dream. I believe if you ask guest services they can help you get a time to see him about your questions.

    Cherie

Thank you! Starting researching new food now.

  10. DH is from India and he's always at Tandoor Grill for lunch. We're on Dream 9/17 and you'll find us there every day when they open. The kabobs they make are very tasty and not overly spicy. Years ago I learned to eat Indian food by mixing yogurt into anumythibg that had a sauce until my taste buds got used to the spices. Food is different throughout India and there are some things even he doesn't like because it's so different from what he grew up eating. Drink water, tea, coffee or beer with Indian food since sodas can make the hot taste hotter. There are usually different dishes to try each day. Try a little and see if you like it.

    Cherie

Can you tell me if Indian food is generally made with a lot of dairy, like butter or milk? I do see about the yogurt sauces... but how about other things like rice and kabobs will I run into dairy trying those things?

  11. Since the question was answered, I am not trying to hijack this thread but.......Dr. E is one CD we have never sailed with.....what do past cruisers have to say about Dr. E??? Just curious...thanks!

We have not cruised with him either. I looked at videos on youtube....he looks like so much fun!

  12. Even with the menus, you won't know the ingredients. Contact Special Needs.

I appreciate the advice. I have contacted special needs. They don't know the ingredients either.

The way I like to do this is as follows..

I see what are likely options for me each night. Then I research how it is traditionally made that way I have a base knowledge of what is in each dish. Then when I speak with my waiter I can have a good idea of how things are prepared and if a substitution is available. It is a lot to do but for health reasons really the only way to be sure without cooking everything yourself.

Again I do appreciate your input. :)
