oh your post brought back memories! hubby and I spent an amazing week at the soggy dollar bar for our honeymoon. They have 6 little cabins on the property - they call it the sandcastle hotel. We had so much fun and Mick, Tina and all the staff are truly the best ever. JVD was quiet in the mornings, then got fun when all the boats pulled in. We met some awesome people from all over the world. Then in the afternoon, they'd depart and it'd be "our" beach and island. One day we rented a dinghy and went all around JVD and to sandy spit. SO relaxing and awesome. Another day we did a snorkel trip to the indians, caves, and willy-t (SO fun to jump off that boat). We walked on the beach, played ring toss, lounged in hammocks, ate and drank at some great places (seddy's one love, ivan's stress free bar, Gertrudes, Foxy's, etc. ) . On the other side of the island was a family-run restaurant called Harris place where we shared a GIANT lobster.
I think I had 582 painkillers while I was there.
For an island with "not much to do", we sure had a fantastic time!
So anyway, if you liked your day trip to JVD you should totally go back for a longer stay.
Fly into St Thomas and then ferry to west end, tortola.
Stay 1 night in Tortola (you'll most likely have to due to ferry schedule), then in the morning take the 20 min ferry to JVD. Paradise, truly!
You can also fly to Tortola via Puerto Rico, but it costs a lot more for that flight, and you still need to get transport to west end for the JVD ferry... so price wise, much better to fly into St Thomas and ferry it to Tortola.
Ok I need to stop rambling now :)
Edit: In case you're interested, here's my album from our honeymoon on JVD.. we stayed the 1st night on tortola at Chateau Relaxeau lol (great name, right?)

Awesome shot. Great close up - you can even see the moss on the tree!

Amazing story in St Thomas. I honestly don't know how you kept your cool. I would have been totally freaked out. Amazing that they let this sort of stuff go on.

Finally caught up reading your review. Love it and dying to see those pictures.

Can't wait to read more. I remember reading about all troubles with the bookings. And of course dying to see pictures. Only went through page 1 of this thread tomorrow I'll read the rest to catch up.

Two from today
Mourning dove watching over his mate who was sitting on the nest
My dragonfly returned for a second photo shoot.
Once again, great shots. Love your pictures.

Another highlight of this cruise, but somewhat unique to our experience, was the electric storm we saw out at sea on our last night. I know it is probably overkill with the pictures, but I had a hard time picking just a few favorites!
At first, it was just a beautiful sunset in the making:
Then we started seeing lightning in the clouds:
After a while we were graced with lightning bolts reaching the ocean!
These are truly awesome and gorgeous pictures. You must be pro?

What kind of lens do I need to take pictures like this?

This little guy sat by my fish pond for quite a while today:)
Wow! Now that's a close-up!

This is my first time posting a photo here.

Enjoyed my late afternoon watching these terns fishing for their dinner.
Absolutely gorgeous!

I too love the colors. Great find with the sea creatures.

It is beautiful. Go. We went there on an island tour that I booked but not through Carnival.

Waiting for you next posting.
Suggestion for camera: Canon Rebel EOS. I have the T1I but now the latest is T3I. Manual and automatic features. I also have a Canon Powershot but hated the fact that I could not get all those action shots. Now I can't stand to use my point and shoot.

I wish I could go on an Alaskan cruise.
Your review is off to an awesome start. Love your pictures! Keep it coming.

Everyone of these is gorgeous! I have a few of my own from my first cruise but don't know how to post on here. Don't use photobucket and don't want to pay.

Where was the beach with the conch shells? I would love to take my daughters there. Thx!
To the right of the pier.

Wow. Tulip farm?

Lawrence of Antigua is the best island tour I have been on. Awesome.
Our driver was Christopher and we followed Lawrence, who was driving the bigger bus, most of the time. They took us everywhere I wanted to go. Devil's Bridge was spectacular! Got two picture of Lawrence and Christopher. Christopher even stopped at the entrance to the rainforest and got us bananas at pineapple. Mmmmmm That pineapple was so sweet.
I very highly recommend using Lawrence and I will certainly do this tour again if I go back.

Great review. Sounds interesting but I would love to be able to take a few pictures of my own. Not sure if we can handle the cost though. We will definitely check into it once we are on board.

Spring is just around the corner so I'm looking forward to visit some public gardens in our area for flower macro shots.
Love the photos. How do you do that?
I got out and used my camera today...
