  1. Just off the Epic this morning.  A beautiful ship! After reading several reviews, not finding all the negative points that others complained about.    Lots of seating around the ship, never had trouble finding a seat.

Embarkation: Our check in time was 2pm.  We arrived at Pier at 12:15, and were on the ship at 12:35pm!  No lines, no waiting. Rooms were not ready until 2pm. We ate at The Great Outdoors and enjoyed the music from the band on the pool deck.

Food:  We ate at Taste every evening.  We found a waiter the first night who took to our 10 year old son, and equated him each night.  Food was very good and portions were the right size. Many choices to choose from. We ate breakfast at The Great Outdoors each morning.  Lunch was the same except one day each at O’Sheehans and Taste for something diffwrent then the buffet. We did not do any of the speciality restaurants.

Shows: Beatles (first night), Burn the Floor, Priscelia and Vinney Grasso (magician) all excellent!  Howl at the Moon (dueling pianos) a must—-daw them all four nights they played!!

PortsAruba:  clean port.  Curaçao: wonderful.  We went to the Halo Caves and walking tour which was great. Tour left late though, so we did not have much time in the town. Wish we had longer time in this port! St. Lucia: our least favorite. Took Ferry to Downtown and walked around.  Very depressing city. Took a while for ship to let us off. St.Kitts: did an island tour after we got off ship.  Loved every minute of it. One of our favorite stops.  Very clean and everyone is very friendly.

Shore Excursions:  only booked Curaçao trip through NCL prior to cruise.  Highly recommend, as many that we wanted to do once on board were already sold out!  Did hear many complaints from other passengers as excursions being delivered was not what was stated.  Many left late too due to ship releasing passengers so excursions was cut short.

Disembarkation:   The easiest we have ever seen!  Choose to do walkoff at 9:30am. We were off the ship and in an Uber by 9am.  They are using face recognition for Immigration, so it was painless.

  2. Just off the Breakaway this past Sunday. This is my sixth cruise with NCL, and was very apparent this cruise how burnt out the staff has become. We heard from numerous staff (spa, room attendant, waiters) that they have to work seven straight days for 8 months, then get two months off. I have never heard so many speaking as loudly about this in past cruises. They were t as friendly or cheerful as in he past. We could see this play out too with lack of service in our room (some days not getting cleaned at all, needing to call for night servicing, etc). The executive housekeeper Carmincita took good care of us and went to lengths to make things right (helps to have her number from meet and greet mingle).

    Thoughts?

  3. It is time for NCL to revamp and bri g in some new shows. Was on the Breakaway in 2014, and again last week. The entertainment is lack luster and the same! Found ourselves just going to bed by 9pm, as we had seen the same shows three years ago! We even walked out of Howl at the Moon as the two were blah!

Is this the same for all NCL ships? I know the shows cost a lot to produce, but running the same thing for three years? They need to freshen it up, especially for those who cruise each year on the same ship!

  4. Does the breakaway still have the Nickelodeon program? If not what do they have for kids?

No more Nickelodean on any NCL ships. They have the Splash Academy kids programs ranging in age groups: Guppies 0-2, Turtles 3-5, Seals 6-9, Dolphins 10-12 and Teen 13-17. They have daily programs available for each age groups.

  5. What exact time does the Breakaway gets to NY? It says 8 AM does it get in before that? We need to get to Penn Station by 10:30 AM would that be enough time? Thanks.

We were docked at the Pier by 6:15am on this past Sunday. We did Easy Walk Off and was through Customs, grabbed a taxi and was at Penn Station by 8:45am. Totally doable for your 10:30 time frame.

  6. Looking at the webcam of Bermuda, it looks like the Dawn is having some mechanical issues, as the yellow crane is in place towards the back of the boat.

We were on his sailing last week, and on Monday they had the crane set up and divers were in he water doing maintenance on the boat for most of the day.

She can make it back to Boston in one day with no problem. It has been done many times!

  7. We used to go out of NYC yearly but haven't done so in about 5 years. Have been going out of FL and it is all so easy there. All I remember are hordes of people and waiting in long lines in NYC. Thinking about going on Breakaway next winter. Have things changed with the hordes and lines or is it still the same? Also was shocked to see that parking was now $40 per day...yikes.

    Thanks for info.

Just sailed on 2/23. We were at the pier at 10:50am, through the line and on the ship having lunch at 11:40am. No lines and only waited 15 minutes for our number to be called to board. Quick, easy, painless! The later you arrive, the longer the lines and wait......
