  1. Hi all, wow, lots of dramatic posts here. I understand the risk of booking a flight the day of a cruise. I also know the distance between anchorage and Seward. We actually had booked the flights and then the cruise and so when I booked the cruise I gave them my flight info and they said we would be able to get a transfer. When I got my edocs it said the thing about the 12-1 departures. I called my PCC and he sent me this info which is different than the edocs info. I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who had the practical experience of it.

No joke. What the one second sequence of frames look like to me is an Orca getting in on the action. Taking advantage of the food source "hanging out" around the Whale. Killer whales are carnivore marine mammals which prey on seals, sea lions, sea otters, dolphins, sharks, baleen whales (like baby Humpback), etc. It appears that the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th frame show an Orca making a near miss on the Sea Lion. Maybe it is something else and the angle and lighting are just playing tricks. I think the 4th & 5th frame clearly show an Orca. All of the frames were taken at 12:11:36PM.

I'd say just an angle, looks like a sea lion flipper to me. Killer whales usually aren't by themselves and humpbacks are known to defend so he would have stayed surfaced longer to fight.

    Day 11: Sunday May 26 – Juneau - Harv & Marv’s, Mt. Roberts Tramway

Arrival time in Juneau was 9am so did not allow our preferred excursion, Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explorer, a full day provided by Allen Marine to view the twin Sawyer Glaciers. What we did schedule was a 3 hr whale watch with Harv & Marv’s and a short flight over the Juneau Ice Field which we had to cancel because RCI changed the time.

We were picked up by the Harv & Marv team at the cruise dock a bit b4 10am for a short ride to the boat harbor. It appears to me that they have a trained mature Bald Eagle hanging out on the pier. Maybe glued down, since he never attempted to get away from the Paparazzi.

By 11, we were cruising within view of the great Mendenhall Glacier.

    keLHBov.jpg

Within minutes, we spotted what looked to be an Orca dorsal fin not far off the boat.

Then just as quickly we spotted the Sea Lions frolicking on the buoy.

Only minutes pass as a Sea Lion teases us nearby.

A full 25 minutes passed as we cruised the waters. Soon sighting a pair of Sea Lions playing games.

Then at 12:11 a startling sequence of action begins. First a big Whale come to the surface and blows.

Just ten seconds later it appears to me that all hell breaks loose. Follow the next 10 shots closely. The all take place in less than one second. A sea Lion surfaces right next to the giant submerging Whale.

This Sea Lion disappears for about 2 minutes, then I have another sequence spanning a few seconds showing him clearly in distress being pursued as he tries to get out of the water and danger. Say goodbye.

(Not sure if you were joking about the danger but just in case) Aww. Don't feel so bad. That is a humpback whale and they don't have teeth. Just baleen. The sea lion eats the same type of small fish the whale does. They like to hang around the whales so they dont have to work as hard.

  4. I just used two of mine for an ocean view sailaway room for a cruise in August - my friend and I were going to do an inside but the use of them with the cruise 6 weeks away even allowed us to go to an oceanview (which I immediately bid on a balcony and minisuite upgrade). I was shocked when the PCC said I could use not just one, but both.

  5. Well they gave me back the upgrade cost since it's so awful. I'm sitting in the atrium drinking a Moscow Mule (1st drink today if you're counting) and complaining to Doug on FB Messenger which is about the only app, along with this, actually working.

Except it's looking like I won't be uploading photos here either anytime soon.

Tip for breakfast at the buffet, they turn Guy's into an eggs to order station, and put out most of what they're offering inside at a station in between that and the Blue Iguana. That has a much shorter line than inside.

I also find it interesting that you need to sign for each drink (even non-alcholic) even if you have Cheers. And they won't let you get anything with someone else's card since you need to sign. So no getting drinks for two people while one of you does something else.

My friends took my card and got me drinks on cheers or the waiters around the pool would just give one of us all the receipts to sign. I guess maybe it depends on the bar?

  6. Okay, this wifi is the pits.

I have a gif sitting in FB Messenger still downloading from about an hour ago. At least my texts are working ok.

Sad news for the person who wanted to know about the fake window (I can't see the previous posts since the wifi is so bad so don't remember your name). The actual drapes don't open, they are sewn together so you can't split them open and tacked with no slider on top. If you still want to try it's approximately 63"×40".

We had the premium WiFi and couldn’t even upload to any social media site. It’s awful! Ncl was way better!

  7. I’ve heard wonderful things about Trilogy, but the POA docks in Kahului, so that would be about a 45 minute drive to Lahaina, where Trilogy is based - that doesn’t work for me.

    Thanks !

Their molokini trip leaves from ma’alaea harbor :)

  8. I posted this on TripAdvisor, and someone who's been helping me thinks it's probably done through Pacific Whale Foundation, which apparently is problematic.

I think I may stick to the beach day because the Lanai excursion would be a hugely long day on top of the previous very long day. that is, if NCL offers the Maui beach day; thus far (and it's obviously extremely early), it's not yet listed among their offered excursions.

    Thank you!

If you want a great experience, I would look into trilogy! I visit Maui like 2x a year and go out with them multiple times. Small groups, great service!

  9. Thanks, Bruce! It sounds absolutely perfect - I'm already in heaven thinking about seeing such beautiful animals, having the chance to do a tour of the reef, etc.. It sounds like paradise.........

If this trip is done through trilogy, it’s fantastic! They are my favorite snorkel company on the island! They will motor for the most part and try sailing back for a portion of it if the wind is there!

  10. It will, by default, add the wifi package for each person in your room. You can deselect all but one person in the room. You will not be able to have two devices use the internet at the same time, but if you're fine with sharing (one by one) you should be okay.

    Thank you!

  11. Went to go try and prepurchase WiFi for an upcoming cruise and it wanted to charge each of us in the room? Is that how it’s supposed to work? Or should it just be charged to one person and we can both use it one at a time?
