I did not go down there due to my accident, sore back, but around here ok, overcast, light showers, 3 metre seas, would be much the same down there.
Hi Les, so sorry to hear your back is bad, sending good thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery, we are watching all the ship discussions, and hoping things will settle for our cruise next month... we are quad vaxxed, so hoping for the best....cheers...

There is no news Sandy. Shortening cruises or splitting them up into pieces is designed to keep it that way. Carnival Australia will know what infection numbers they had on Pacific Explorer over the 8 nights and see that a cruise of that length is a risk vs the protocols that have been set for them.
Thanks Geoff, sounds sensible, we are hoping to have a nice chilled cruise, we are all vaxxed..(4 shots), and flu, hoping to avoid the worst of it...cheers...

Carnival should release the lurgy numbers, keeping them secret is not right, there should be transparency, pending pax have a right to know. Hope the media get onto this.
Thanks Les, havn't heard anything ..was there some covid....

Not that we know of. P&O changed a 10-day itinerary into an 8-day one. This was before the cruise so it wasn't because of something happening during the cruise. That's all we know.
Thanks for that reply Aus Traveller, cheers..,

I think the decision was made based on what Pacific Explorer had experienced with their recent 8 night cruise. Only they would know the numbers. That cruise ended on Wednesday, so I think any decisions have been made swiftly and not done to tie people to final payments.
If anything, that works against the cruise line, as many more passengers will jump ship to get their fare refunded vs those that will push it back to a later cruise. I have been happy to kick $1, $49, $99 deposits down the track for a couple of years, but will cancel anything that ties up my money after final payment.
I obviously missed the news on Explorer, was there a problem onboard the 8 day cruise...cheers...

Yes, we just had our flu shots this week, and covid jab number 4 in a couple of weeks, wondering what the process will be pre cruise for covid tests etc...cheers

And if you declare you are on blood thinners, straight out, NO. I am fishing around for travel insurance. If I can get a policy at a reasonable price I may go for a little cruise on Princess. The Conflict Islands one in August on Coral Princess appeals, Syd-Syd.
IMO for us 'Seniors' it is a risk at the moment booking a cruise, travel insurance policies are so varied, expensive and sketchy. Needs serious consideration folks.
I would not be happy if I had to wear a mask at embarkation/disembarkation, around the ship and ashore, not comfortable with masks and given the money you pay.
Hi Les, we are also looking for insurance, will prob only be able to get cancellation, baggage and accidental medical etc, not much chance of getting covid insurance..We are off for jab number 4 in couple of weeks, we hopefully will all be ok to cruise then, given that the ships will have to have such high standards of sanitizing going on, plus all pax and crew vaxxed as well... and....if you decide to go on the August cruise, you are more than welcome to join us with our party of 6, more the merrier..
Im also wondering what vaccination protocols they will have in place for checking our covid status at port... maybe we will get tested at the port somehow...will be watching this subject on here....cheers...

No cruises planned. I don't see much value in paying double bubble as a solo.
I lost my wife from the big C in May 2020., I am still shattered. I have done a dozen road trips in the past 18 months. Up to the Gold Coast on Sunday see my brother and sister. Are you missing Batemans Bay? We have a new bridge now, lol.
OMG ..Les, how terrible for you, thats just tragic, you must be absolutely gutted, so so sorry to hear that...... our very deepest condolences to you and your family... we do hope to meet up with you on a cruise one day..... ..and, yes...we do miss the Bay, the lovely weather and
the jazz club etc, lots to do there, but we are very happy being here with our kids and grandkids, we are very settled..needing a cruise.. as there have been health issues here over the past year or so, knee replacements are on the list, and lots of other stuff as we get older.very best wishes...x

We too have left instructions with our cruise planner for a 7 and 3 day in August.
We thought we may as well tack on a three day cruise and sail down to Sydney.
Our planner couldn't give us any prices so hopefully she is able to get us a cabin in our price range.
It will be nice to get out of South east NSW for a few days in August.
Hi Sewgood, yes..good luck with your plans, hope you get your booking, yes it has been a long 2 years for everyone for sure..

Thanks Sandy. I have been looking at a lot of Majestic reviews here on CC, they are very ordinary.:o As I said before, like you I prefer the Grand Class rather than the Royal Class.
Yes Les, we will also try Ruby when she arrives, as we did like Emerald (Diamond, Sapphire etc_...) :) and the food was great on those too... cheers S&D

S&D/Thorpe, did they enforce the jacket and tie thing in the MDR's on Formal nights? :o
Hi Les, no..not that we saw, lots of nice shirts and pants though....but we did see a lot of jackets and ties too...I ended up going to 2 maitre'd people to get a table for formal night, the first one we were in the pizza place as we couldn't get a time other than 5.15.... or 8....sad...:o oh well...looking fwd to the next cruise now.... cheers S&D

we had anytime dining got in straight away, I always found plenty of deck chairs around even in the Hollywood pool area, food was good alround except for harmony, staff were awesome esp in crooners and wakeview bar.
yes...staff were very good everywhere. but the dining was disappointing for us this time....cheers :)

Question for those who have just been on Majestic - someone in our roll call wants to know if there are any "themed nights" other than the formal ones??
TIA
Not exactly a theme night, but there was an on deck latin party with the band, no island night or country n western, or black n white night etc, like we used to have back in the day on some of the earlier cruises! cheers S&D

Question for gbenjo if I may - were you working yesterday (i.e. Majestic check-in) - If so, how busy was it? I'm on the next one (10 Oct), with staggered times I got the 4.30 time slot but I can't get transport that late.
Have priority boarding pass (Platinum) and expect to be there around 1.30-2.00pm. What are my chances of getting on at that time??
Thanks in advance :)
We had priority boarding, with a time of 4pm....we just turned up and were onboard by 11.30...hope that helps!...
