  1. We did this in January 2017. We drove from Miami, and by the time we got there, we were able to check in to our hotel. We stayed at the Royal Pacific Hotel which is a Universal hotel. We did not get reduced price tickets, (I don't even know if that's possible,) but we got great perks for staying there. We bought our park tickets at a designated desk in the lobby. I'll list the perks below.

Amazingly beautiful resort with a Polynesian theme.

Full gym, arcade, stores, restaurants, pool bar, and more.

Huge pool with water features, sand beach area, towels, and very hot hot tubs that were perfect to relax in after the cruise and before a long day at the park!

We had parking at the hotel, so we didn't have to worry about paying for parking at the park like if we had stayed elsewhere.

Walk to Universal less than 1/2 mile. Water taxi also available free, but slower.

One hour early admission for resort guests only to Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We were able to ride Escape from Gringotts twice before anyone else was let into the park!

Universal Express Pass for resort guests so we were able to go in the Express line for every ride!

There were other perks we did not use like priority dining, charging resort purchases to our room card, hotel delivery of merchandise purchased in the resort, and City Walk club admission. Plus luau, kids club, kids dining room, and more.

We took the water taxi back to the hotel at the end of the day to rest our feet.

We had an amazing, albeit too short visit, to Royal Pacific and Universal, and would highly recommend it!!

I have no idea if they offer group discounts. And there are other resort hotels with different amenities, so I recommend you research them. Have a wonderful trip!

  2. On the Carnival Board, you can search all posts related to the Carnival Paradise, (if that is the ship you are on.) You will have a better chance of finding menus and activity schedules (called Fun Times,) that would be similar to what you will have on your sailing. There can be variations depending on the Cruise Director, itinerary, etc. You can also search on the Carnival board for "Paradise MDR menus" or "Paradise Fun Times" to see examples.

I know when I first started cruising, and with each new ship, I was obsessed with reading everything I could! We can't link many websites on here because they are competitors, but I found tons of info on sites you can find by googling, "beyondships2," "zydecocruiser," and "cruiseclues." Some info will be out of date, so you will find the most up to date stuff here. Enjoy researching and cruising!

Editing to add, you can find more specific info and ask questions under the board, "Carnival Roll Calls." You can find people who will be on your particular sailing.

  3. I just answered part of my own question as I went ahead and ordered the FTTF for our 3 staterooms. It is paid at time of booking and it can be cancelled in advance of cruise. Still not sure if it will be of much use to us as our current check in time was 1230 and it looks like FTTF might only be half hour before that as the FTTF receipt says 1200-1pm.

They have to list a time as it is in the excursion section, but fttf guests do not need to follow the time listed. You can arrive between 10 and 10:30am as the doors to the terminal are opened if you'd like.. You head for the Diamond/Platinum/Suites/FTTF line. After going through security, etc. you will board as soon as the ship is cleared of previous guests, but after the Diamond, etc. guests. You will likely be enjoying lunch on board by 12:00!

Also, as soon as you board you can head to your cabin and drop off your carry-ons. Your cabin should be ready for you but your luggage probably won't be there yet.

Enjoy having FTTF! It will help make your trip run as smooth as possible.

  4. Anyone have the menu?

This is from 2016, so I'm not sure if anything's changed, including prices.

Here are links to menu (without prices) if the first link doesn't work.

  5. If you are going on a private excursion, check if the time the operators list is for island time in the event it is different than ship time. It was drilled into us to stay on ship time, but we were an hour late to an excursion once by mistakenly thinking the excursion operators would be on ship time, as well.

You would still need to be back on board by the designated time according to ship time, however.

  6. Quick question for those that have used the drink package, my wife likes the daily frozen drinks and mixed drinks. If she has the cheers package are the drinks in smaller bar glasses? She likes the souvenier glasses also so I'm torn if she isn't getting those also. Also I pre-paid for a bottle of champange to be delivered to state room for her birthday, will this be refused if we have drink package added?

It has been my experience that we can buy empty souvenir cups for a reduced charge than those with a drink inside. Just ask a bartender for one and they will charge it to your sail and sign card.

I hope that is still the case. And if so, you can still get them for your wife even if you have Cheers.

  7. I tried to find the answer before I asked but I can’t seem to so I am asking al, of you because I have never been steered wrong.

My mom would rather bring the 4pack of small wine bottles instead of a regular bottle. If they add up to less than 750 ml can she bring those?

I saw this link on another thread. (I'm sorry I don't remember the original posters name so I can credit them.) If you look toward the bottom, there is a question about wine coolers. It says they are allowed if the total amount is equal to or below the limit and it says "wine" on it. I would think then, actual wine in mini bottles or cans would be allowed as well (equal to or under the limit.) It states boxed wine is acceptable too, for those that are interested.

I would print out the link to prove you are allowed smaller sizes in case they question it. They may still not allow it due to it specifically saying wine coolers, but I think it would get it through.

    I hope this helps!

  8. My family and I are booked on the Vista for spring break. My daughter is 15 and son 10. They can't wait to see what all they can do on the ship. Even though they are going to step off a little while at each port they plan on spending most of the time on the ship.

(I'm sorry to hijack this thread for a moment.)

CRgreen0524, my family will be on your sailing and we have a 15 yr old daughter, as well. What are your daughter's interests? Mine is somewhat shy to do the teen club, but very friendly. She is into drawing most. Maybe they would get along?

  9. That's quite an assumption, that I had something to do with my wife being pregnant. I really HOPE I did ;p

If buying a-la-carte ends up what's best (assuming she's pregnant, that's not even a given at this time), that's what I'll do. Like I said in a previous post, I just like to make sure I have ALL of the CORRECT information before making a decision. I brought it up because I've gotten conflicting information (PVP told me one thing, CC members saying another), and was just looking for someone with first-hand experience. I honestly couldn't care less either way, I just want to know so I can make an informed decision. I'm not one who's going to get close to my limit, we've pretty much "broke even" on past cruises. I just like it because I can pay it off before I go, plus I can try new drinks I wouldn't generally pay for knowing I can just get a different one if I don't like it.

If your wife ended up being pregnant on the cruise, (or for anyone who's spouse is not able to drink alcohol,) the Cheers plan may still be worth it to purchase, (especially considering the convenience, but also for the following...)

Since the plan includes all non-alcoholic beverages, anything she drinks would be provided. All cocktails can be purchased sans alcohol for $4.75 each. Coffee drinks for up to $5.75. Shakes, $3.95. Bottled water for up to $4.95( San Pellegrino.) Plus juices, sodas, Vitamin water, or Powerade.

If she averages at least 10 drinks of any of those per day, (2 for breakfast, 2 lunch, 2 afternoon, 2 dinner, and 2 evening,) she would just about equal the cost of her cheers. And with your benefits, it would make the cost of two of you paying for Cheers more cost-effective.

If that is not reality, someone here will be sure to correct me, but I believe it to be the case. I hope whatever happens will work out for you!

  10. AARP rewards for good. Allstate insurance drivewise rewards. Do a search for either programs on this page. You'll see a million threads about them.

Thank you for the link. I signed up for AARP's Rewards for Good. We are also planning on signing up for AARP itself, and I will get more points then. It will be nice to save $90 on Cheers for our upcoming cruise!

  11. I use a plastic 7 pocket according binder. The front pocket has my packing list and the don't forget before I leave list. The second, our travel reservations. The third, embarkation day info and boarding passes. The rest are for ports and excursions. The back holds our birth certificates.

During the trip, I also put in the daily planner sheets for souvenirs to bring home.

I hope you find what works best for you. The planning is almost as much fun as the trip!

  12. Having sailed on the Magic, and going on the Vista spring break cruise you're looking at, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Plenty of great restaurants on both.

The Vista has an edge (IMHO) as it has an extra sea day to enjoy all the amenities along with the cheaper price, as well as the Imax, Thrill Theater, Skyride, bowling (extra $,) and giant Soccer Pool. (The kind you normally play with cue sticks you play with your feet or hands.)

Using this link, you can check the two ships and compare them side by side:

    https://www.carnival.com/cruise-ships

If you end up on the Vista, we will see you there! (We have a 15 yr old DD sailing with us.)

  13. According to the link posted connecting cabins do/can have balconies that open to another.

I check our cabin numbers and it shows ours does!

I appreciate you correcting me! I don't like giving wrong information, but it's true I did not check every page. It's good to know that they are available!☺️ It does appear best to search or question here as the Carnival employees seem to be notorious for giving incorrect information, and someone here generally will know the correct answer. (Especially as some of us try, but turn out to be wrong!)😊

  14. This question isn't about wine but salad dressing. I have allergies that prevent me from using ANY regular salad dressing. I can use one that is organic and in a glass bottle that I buy locally.

Do you think that they would allow me to bring my own salad dressing "in a bottle"? It even has the plastic wrap around the twist off cap.

I would contact the Special Needs department and get permission to bring it. Have them send you an email and bring it with you. Good luck!

  15. It is my understanding that rooms that connect through a door in the wall don't connect through the balcony due to where the doors to the balcony need to be. Their balconies connect to the balcony on the other side. So rooms can connect through EITHER a door in the wall or the balconies, but not both.

Most, if not all, cove balconies on the Vista do connect if they are not connecting rooms by door. (That may not be true for all ships.) We are in connecting rooms (by door,) on the Vista. Our balconies would open to the cabins on the other side of us.

I hope that all makes sense!☺️

This page has all connecting balconies listed:

    https://help.goccl.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3181/session/L3RpbWUvMTQ4MDY0OTAwNS9zaWQvZlU0QnoxT3o1YU1CcDM2OXlKTTdjeUQ2NjNkR2ZZVUMxeVU0JTdFWm1TRGJUSkk0X2FpSVJEQ1ZtS29zYkcxcjBsa0RhTTVVdGJhalo0WXdlQ2IzV3h4SUhTSnp2QThJWkJNem84VFBPaUt4aGNwcUdtdXRFVWxsSGclMjElMjE=

Edited to add that some ships have balcony cabins that connect to inside cabins. I'm not sure which ships have this, and there are very few of them.

  16. It is nice of you to offer them to others who would appreciate it.

I would post this in the sub-forum "Cruise Memorabilia" under the "Cruise Discussion Topics" forum.

More people will see it who may not be taking a Carnival cruise now, but have in the past.

Good luck and enjoy your clean home!
