Thanks for helping out with this. I am glad you explained it a little better than I did.

Did you see the older Holiday pin for $40.00 on ebay? In all my years,

I have never seen one like it. Have you?

    JR

Yes, now that it has been re listed.. I have the same pin from several different ships, the earliest being the Festivale. but not the Holiday. From my extensive record keeping, I personally place the value around $ 20.00 which I have been able to purchase several for.

I can only confirm that the Mardi Gras & Carnivale had only the "shield Pin" & the gold-toned "ship-shaped" pin.

  2. CruiseAdict218

    You are corect.

The Mardi Gras and Carnivale only had a shield-type pin not a funnel type

pin. The Festivale was the first to have the famous whale tail pins.

    JR

Although very little attention is given to the gold tone(Platium tone on the Dream) ship shapped pins Carnival started with the Mardi Gras and every ship had them for sale in the gift shop until Carnival changed (stopped) selling them on the Dream.

Carnival called the shield type a "tie-tack" and sold the ship=shapped ones as a "hat-pin". JR is correct about the VIP (past Guest)funnel pins began with the Festivale and ended with the Dream.

    There are:

    • 13 Single Ship Name Pins
    • 24 Carnival Double name Pins
    • 15 2000 Dated Pins
    • 16 2001 Dated Pins

JR, sorry, but I have been very lax with pins this year due to my involvement with the Civil War re-enactments(I think it is going to become a lot more involved...) and did not see it. The Holiday has issued the "shield pin" the "gold ship shaped pins" the plain single word " Holiday" and the doubled worded "Carnival Holiday".

And thanks for the advertisement.. I do have a few of the earlier pins still for trade or for sale.

  4. I have collected Carnival Cruise pins from the beginning, and as many know I have over 1,000. Including all the early ones. Every pins "cruisetrend" has listed are DEFINITELY counterfeit, GThey are not even good copies, with several differences, most notably the Mardi Gras left the fleet in 1993, The Carnivale in 1994, The Festival in 1998, The Tropicale in 2001,the Jubilee in 2004. Carnival did not start

renaming" the earlier ships until the Fantasy Class ships were refitted and renamed until late 2008.

Carnival never had a BREEZE, and the Magic has never issued this type of funnel pin.

PLEASE, everyone one go to EBay ond on the right side about half way down there is a place to report all these pins a fakes.

  5. Tell me it ain't so....Carnival~~!!~~

It appears from "official".....unofficial information from the maiden sailing of the Magic that Carnival will now only be issuing the traditional funnel pins, we have all come to love and collect, by a generic pin for all ships with the words Carnival Platinum". The only funnel pins will be the funky ones sold in the gift shop when the present inventory for each ship runs out.

Unlike in 2009 when Carnival attempted this, it now appears it is a done deal~~!!!~~

It waits to be seen if Carnival can pawn the new funky funnel pins off, by selling them in their gift ship, or if serious cruisers will still seek the original pins......

If anyone has heard this information from other ships, or if Platinum members have received the new pins on other ships, I would appreciate any info you are willing to share....... THANKS ~~!!~~

I am truely amazed at your collection. I would be honoured (and a bit afraid) to meet you. Such dedication to a single

collectable is both inspiring and unfathomable. WOW! Good luck.

Thank you so much for your very kind words, I indeed am humbled.

JR, You KNOW, you, Renee, & the other longtime pin collectors who have been so kind as to share y'alls knowledge & expertise will be at the top of the list(as proof-readers LOL)...... I could never have been able to do it without everyone's input of their shared experiences. And a big thank you to Texrail who added the last piece of the puzzle tonight.

The main emphasis with be on the lineage of Carnival's past guest pin/programs starting with Cunard in the late 1800's until Carnival started their past guest program in 1994 after acquiring Princess which had a past guest club after P & O purchased SITMAR (Societa Italiana Trasporti Marittimi)in 1988. I am planing to illustrate it profusely starting with the turn of the century Cunard "Britannia Club" pin to the latest "Dream" Pin.

  7. I have heard back and forth regarding whether pins are given to past guests or not. Our last cruise a year ago June we read they no longer give them, however we did receive them. I used the search and am still seeing a little both ways. Has anyone sailed the Triumph recently and received the past guest pins??? Thanks.

Ask your steward.. as the Triumph is still giving them away. Past Guest Pins are an expense item just like soap, toilet paper, Kleenex, etc. They are kept in the supply room with little or no control. I have always found a nice tip is enough incentive for the room steward to go to the extra effort to make sure you have one, or two, or more PG pins.

Items sold in the various gift shops like pins, liquor, cigarettes are inventory items, and a very tight control is kept on the numbers sold.

  8.

Yes sirrrry! How many has everyone been able to collect before they stopped giving them out?

I have 4 pins. 2 from Victory and 2 from Fantasy last year.

Carnival is still giving them to Platinum members. Also just ask your cabin steward and will get you some.

OK, there are 13 different pins with a single ship name. Festivale, Tropicale, Mardi Gras. An additional 23 pins with double names, Carnival Holiday, Carnival Fantasy.Another 15 ship pins issued in 2000(some with single names and some with double names). And 16 different pins dated 2001(some with single names and some with double names). If you are attempting to collect 1 each of all the different pins, that total comes to 67.

I wear my "funnel hat" when boarding, and on my past cruises to the past guest party and always try to be one of the first to leave standing in the middle of the exit, and on each occasion many, many passengers would give me theirs. I have had very good luck bribing, bugging, begging, & pestering the cabin steward for a lot of extra pins. In addition to the tactics above I have had some very good finds at estate sales (not yard sales), and being a hoarder/buyer on EBay for the last 10 1/2 years(I'm still buying-last month about 20 more duplicates).

The total number of Carnival Past Guest pins I have accumulated is staggering. And since you asked (without counting) the total number of past guest pins is probably fast approaching 1000. I have a separate collection of die errors, another collection of plate errors, and still another collection of color varieties. Each pin is hand painted by the artist using a syringe needle to apply the paint. After the plant that produced the pins burned in China, Carnival rushed to several different suppliers, which produced pins with many different variates., IMHO. is still in effect so no one plant has a total number of pins produced which equals a number the competitors would love to have.

I am in the process of writing a history of, and a legacy of past guest pins from the first past guest pins of the classical period, Cunard of course, through the revival of the practice in the modern era of the Skald Club. The booklet will be profusely illustrated with pictures of the pins. And I will be able to place a relative value on the pins since I have saved the prices realized on all Carnival PG pins sold, and those listed and not sold. in the past year on EBay.

Carnival has used 7 distinctly different "Thank You" cards that the pins are attached to prior to giving them away.

All input & information from CC members is welcomed,

  9. I'm still looking for a Fantasy and a Sensation.

They are both on EBay now with the bid at an unbelievable LOW price of .99 cents. The pin prices have been very depressed since Carnival limited the pins to platinum/VIP..

  10. JR, just a note to let you know....

:):)THANK YOU :) from France, and this week

:):)THANK YOU :) from The Czech Republic

Both were exceedingly happy with their pins you so graciously shared ~~!!~~

  11. Does anyone have any extra Jubilee pin?

The Jubilee is one tough(& expensive) number. The last two sales on EBay was $ 105.00 in Oct.2009, and 76.00 in Dec. 2009. Those were the only two sales on EBay in the last 6/8 months.

Along with the Tropicale , Festivale & the Jubilee are the 3 scariest of the past guest pins.

  12. We are first timers and will be tendering at Grand Cayman next week.

I pre-booked a shore excursion through an independent, NOT through Carnival.

I have read that passengers who have excursions through Carnival are tendered to shore first. I am now concerned that we will not get to shore in time for our excursion which leaves at 9:30am.

To add to the excitement we are travelling with our 2 small children.

Does anyone have any tips on how we can get on a tender and get to shore in a reasonable amount of time without stressing out over missing our shore excursion?

The best tip I can give you is to keep your arms & hands inside the tender. And keep the kids away from the railings. The tender pilot will warn you.

We were tendering back the the SS Norway, and the seas were quite heavy. The staff warned everyone constantly about keeping arms and hands inside the tender. A huge wave slammed the tender up against the Norway and a man let out a blood curling scream as his 4 fingers was cut off when the tender hit the ship with a great thug. Not a pretty sight, as a mild panic set in with those around him, the crew trying to get to him, and although it seemed like an hour, it was an eternity getting the man off the tender in the high swells. It still brings tears to my eyes today.

  13. Brandon, the Carnivale is the oldest style.

These were distributed by "Fort, Inc." The earliest ones were made in the USA, and at some point in time the manufacturing was moved to Mexico.

    Carnivale.jpg

    Next style, later(newer) in time.

    HolidayC.jpg

    And the recent design:

    FantasyC.jpgnewAmsterdam.jpg

The gold tone silhouette pin has been produced for many different shipping companies, and there should be Mardi Gras, and Carnivale pins in this design.. I have never seen either.

    SensationG.jpg

  14. Just an FYI for those buying on EBAY, watch the shipping charge, somtimes it can be more than the pin. I did purchase the Celebration pin (cost a bit more because the ship is out of Carnival's line) & still looking for the Pardadise.

I will be happy to trade a Paradise to you ~~!!~~

    Looking for a "Carnival Sensation"

Can trade "Carnival Inspiration" "Carnival Fantasy" or "Carnival Fascination" (all are sealed on the card)

If you are looking for the new "Carnival Sensation" Carnival Customer service told me they were available in May or June 2009. I record every Carnival Pin sold and there has NOT been one listed or sold. Hopefully some will show soon. If you want the original Sensation, I have one I will trade you.

Any pins out for the Dream??? in the shops yet?

Yes, I will be happy to trade you a Dream...

EMAIL me if you are interested in a trade, or if you prefer I can list them:

    joebat1@swbell.net

The "Funnel Hat" has all the Carnival ships except the Mardi Gras- undated. The vest has all the dated 2000 & 2001. I have dupes of all except maybe 6 or 7, and if I could find the boxes, I think I would have most of them. Ship Pins have been my passion for over 10 years, and pin collecting in general for over half a century.

Will be happy to trade for ship pins from any cruise line, and especially "world cruises" and "inaugural cruises".

  15. Its funny b/c i just won a Fantasy 2001 pin lol but anyway thanks and just out of curiosity how rare are the tropicale and festivale pins?

Congratulation on winning the Fantasy 2001. That is a very desirable & scarce pin.

It is hard to put the "rare" designation on either since more than 10,000 ++++

were in all likelihood produced of each, and if the truth were know probably closer to 50,000 were produced. The Tropicale also was produced with 2000.

Now, in the number of pins that reach the secondary market (EBay) that figure might be classified as "rare". as very, very few are sold, and the few that are offered are bring premium prices. In the past year the typical prices realized have been:

    Festivale............ $ 100.00 to $ 150.00

    Tropicale.............$ 100.00...solid

    Tropicale "2000"....$ 50.00

    Jubilee................ $ 75.00 to $ 100.00

    Jubilee "2000"...... $ 50.00

    Jubilee "2001"...... $ 50.00

  16. Im confused? wat do u mean i only asked if those old carnival ships have pins like the one in my pic below

Yes, the Festivale had pins like your picture below.

Yes, the Tropicale had pins like your picture below.

No, the TSS Mardi Gras did NOT have pins like your picture below.

No, the TSS Carnnivale did NOT have pins like your picture below.

When Carnival purchased Princess in 1994 Princess had a Captain’s Circle which provided benefits for repeat customers. Carnival then formed their past guest program for repeat customers (2 to 9 cruises) and a Concierge or VIP designation for those who had completed 10 or more cruises. Unlike Princess who used one pin design fleet wide for the different levels obtained, Carnival decided to have a pin design with their distinctive “whale tail” with each ship having its own named pin. This would be given out to all past guest with an invitation to a “Past Guest Party”.

    2001Holiday.jpg

This basic design was unchanged from the inception in 1994 until 2000, when, “2000” was added in the red funnel area. This was also the design in “2001” when the pins were also dated. Although only 8 or 9 years old the dated pins are very elusive and desirable today.

    1CarnivalDoublename.jpg

Carnival started naming the newer ships after the Fantasy Class with double names in 1996 with the Carnival Destiny. In 2007 when Carnival started refitting and changing the name of the Fantasy Class ships to include the prefix “Carnival”. The ships refitted and renamed in 2007 were: Carnival Imagination, Carnival Inspiration, Carnival Elation, and the Carnival Paradise. In 2008 Carnival refitted & renamed : Carnival Fantasy, Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Sensation, & Carnival Fascination. In early 2009 Carnival, after a dry dock of the Holiday, renamed it the Carnival Holiday and issued “past guest pins” with the new name.

Carnival stopped issuing pins to “past guest” in late 2009, and at present limit the free pins to the Concierge or VIP Members.
