Babysitting is restricted to those in Suites, and is subject to ship availability. I have yet to have it offered since return to cruising, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. It will be charged to your folio so yes, OBC can be used.

Hopefully someone with experience recently can let you know about Eclipse.

For excursions, many have strict age limits and many can accommodate infants that are not shown. Do not assume you can book the whole family if the infant shows online as “not bookable”. Since you have a larger group it is helpful to contact Private Journeys to help make the booking and they know most of the actual restrictions.

So helpful!  Thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions.

  2. A few questions for our upcoming multi-generational family cruise to Alaska:

Can onboard credit be used for babysitting fees for our 18 month old granddaughter?

The app doesn’t explicitly state age limitations for excursions.  Will the baby be charged same as an adult?  I’ve looked around the internet and can’t seem to find these answers.

Thanks for any info you’re willing to share.

Does Silversea have hotel options in London for guests to stay pre or post cruise out of Southampton?  If so, which hotels do they use for their Simply and Grand options?

Corinthia is the Grand Hotel post-cruise in London following our Norwegian Fjords cruise in September.

  4. Agree on talking to Aerocar.

You shouldn't have any problem with a 1:15 flight. You could comfortably get off at 8 or 8:30, unless there is some issue you aren't mentioning.

Ship docks at 8 am. I am not a seasoned cruiser so don’t know how to guesstimate when I can exit the ship. Aerocar charges extra for every minute you’re late

  5. I don't mean to sound glib but isn't that something you should discuss with Aerocar? They will probably give you a number to call from your cell phone when you have cleared customs and are standing outside, but I don't know. You should ask them. :)

No worries. I did speak with them...then I posted the question. They need a pick-up time and all I know right now is the ship is supposed to dock in Vancouver at 8 am. Given what I know, I don’t know what time to tell Aerocar to get there. They charge extra for every minute I’m late.

  6. Many Canadian payment processors are able to handle US chip cards with signatures rather than PIN. Tap should work for amounts below floor limit which is usually CA$100. Worst case for Visa and Mastercard would be having to swipe and sign.

Amex is generally accepted by larger merchants. Smaller merchants often do not because of the significantly higher processing fee.

Thank you so much for your helpful reply!

  7. ^As mentioned above directly by CVU and on the link that was supplied to Translink website, Visa & MC cards only at this time (I don't know if Amex have a 'tap and go' system yet - if they do, it might get enabled later on too). There is no need for a PIN when boarding transit, as there is no keypad it's impossible to enter one! The whole point of the system is speed - requiring a PIN to be entered would utterly wreck the logistics. Since amounts are very small - at most still under CAD$6 - the risk is small.

Currently 'tap and go' payment is accepted up to $50 in most stores, even more in places like Costco (where you need a membership card so a stolen card can be tracked back to the person who used it easily, lowering risks, so they up the limit to $250 IIRC). So a cheap lunch, some snacks, you may be able to get away without needing a PIN at all - it's things like trying to buy multiple tickets on Transit for your whole family that will definitely need a PIN as there is no person to override anything, ticket vending machines must be used and if you insert a Chip card and try to buy lots of tickets they will request a PIN and refuse the transaction if you don't have one.

Make life easy - call your card issuer, request a PIN, and never have to worry about using your card abroad ever again...

Just called my credit card provider...and two agents told me that the only pin through them is for cash advances via an atm or teller. This pin would not work in a kiosk. Does this make sense? They assured me that no other pin is available for my chipped cards.

  8. In theory all that has to happen is canceling the transaction and starting again - but being a Canadian & ex-Brit we've never NOT had a PIN for any credit card we've ever had, so I have no idea if the POS terminals are ever coded to require a Chip card must be inserted rather than swiped...

Given that the hard part has already been done though - you have a Chip on your card - you could just ask your CC provider for a PIN and then you'll be good anywhere, any time...

I spoke with 2 different agents ( I have 2 separate chipped credit cards). They both said the same thing. The only pin I can get from them is for cash advances (used in an atm or bank teller). This pin would not work at a kiosk (according to them).

Ugh. So I cannot get a pin to go along with my chipped cards. Does this sound right?

  9. I am not a frequent traveler, so please excuse my ignorance as I am heading to Vancouver next month. This whole credit card thing has me nervous now. I use a chipped card, but have no pin. I never thought I’d have an issue when charging at a restaurant, hotel, or attraction. Should I be worried?

Also, the new “tap” system at the train station? Do you need a certain kind of credit card? Or will any kind suffice?

    Thanks,

    Debbie

  10. Hi folks! This thread came at just the right time for me.

When I disembark in Vancouver there will be 3 ships in port. [emoji51]. My flight back to the states is at 1:15pm, so I have to have a plan in place and not dilly-dally.

Typically I’d take the SkyTrain to the airport, but I fear my luggage will be too much to handle ( probably 1 piece of large luggage plus a carry-on) so I think that’s out. I fear super long taxi lines...so the idea of getting myself to one of the neighboring hotels is interesting. Are the neighboring hotels very far? Truthfully if I can get myself to a neighboring hotel to get a taxi there....is the SkyTrain entrance just as close?

If I wanted to arrange for a car to pick me up at the port, does anyone have a recommendation? Is it crazy chaotic trying to find your car at Canada Place?

    Thanks.

    Debbie

  11. Have you considered Princess. They have a Sanctuary area that should be very relaxing and quiet. You can reserve a lounge chair for a day or week. I think most reserve their lounge chair for a week and do it as soon as they board because it is limited to the capacity.

Instead of paying an outrageous price for a suite you can get a lower priced cabin and still have a nice area that is adults only for a reasonable rate

    Happy cruising [emoji305][emoji568][emoji631][emoji560]
