We have the Z2 travel cpap.  I chose this one because it’s small, runs on batteries or can be plugged in, the battery can be charged in the power shell, and most importantly, for us, was the fact that we could use the mask that we use at home.  That way we didn’t have to adjust to a different mask.

It is a little different than our home ones so took a little getting used to but we do really like them now that we've got used to them.  We bought the Q tube but don’t seem much difference in the noise with it or without so I’d buy the machine first and see if the noise bothers you before investing in the Qtube.  They are louder than our home ones but just another thing to get used to.

we ended up having to return our batteries and power shells as one of the batteries would not charge.  We could not figure out if it was the battery or the power shell so they just exchanged both batteries and power shells.  The new batteries are bigger than the ones we had but last longer.  We usually only take the batteries if we are flying overnight and need to sleep on the plane.

Apria direct is having a sale now so if you are interested I’d check them out.  Our insurance wouldn’t buy them since we already had home ones, but we felt the investment was worth it.  I love if we have an early morning flight I don’t have to pack our machines after we get up...the travel ones are all ready to go.

Let me know if you have other questions.

    Kari,

Just to answer your question about checking a CPAP.  We have checked ours numerous times.  It goes in the bag it came in and then that bag in a rolleraboard  size suitcase that is made for scuba diving equipment.  Also out other things related like extensions cords, tools for my husband’s scooter, and a non slip nat for the shower.  I ordered a luggage strap that has MEDICAL EQUIPMENT embroidered on it.  Thankfully, we never had an issue with losing or breaking.  I know it’s taking a chance but with all the other stuff we have to take it’s a chance I’m willing to take.  That being said we have now bought travel size ones that we carry on when doing an overnight flight so we can use on the plane.

Hello, would you have any recommendations on your travel size CPAP’s? Just have the standard size model and are considering options since we love to travel!

    thanks!  Rick & Diana

My expense in Japan was cheap.

It included an ambulance that took us to a private hospital one hour away, a doctor, every test you can imagine with a total bill of $1,500.00. In the USA it might have been $15,000.00 or more.

Thanks very much Keith for your prompt reply. This definitely helps to put things in perspective. On another subject, do you get any Cruise Critic perks for reaching 100,000 posts?  Rick

Yes I was taken off the ship once in Japan while ship was in port for an overnight. Taken by ambulance to a private hospital where I spent several hours undergoing many tests and thankfully and later returned to the ship.

After returning home we submitted the paperwork including original copies of all medical bills (including the ships medical center) and were reimbursed for them a few weeks later.

    You pay everything up front.

Were the costs at the Japanese hospital expensive compared to US hospital costs?  We're on a cruise to Russia and Japan later this year and are evaluating which specific travel insurance to purchase for our trip.

Be sure and check out the Cruisetones in the Casino Lounge.  Dan (guitar) and Elliott (piano) are the nicest people and we enjoyed listening to them every evening last Aug-Sept on the Pacific P.  Dan is married to Deborah who is the Destination lecturer on the cruise with you.  Was always a fun evening with them.

Ditto that!  We first met Dan, Elliott, and Debbie on our Ocean Princess Cruise along the west coast of Africa in 2010. Have always enjoyed Dan & Elliott's music and Debbie's port lectures. Have sailed with them twice on the Ocean Princess and twice on the Pacific Princess.  Rick & Diana

  6. veniceforvisitors is a great resource. They have an 11pg directory for Murano information, including this page about specific routes to take.

    http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/murano_transportation.htm

We were near St Marks so we took the waterbus from Zaccaria to the Colonna stop on Murano (40 minutes). We had an ACTV pass so we also took the water bus to the Museo stop, wandered around the residential areas, had lunch on a canal, then went back to St Marks.

Here's the Burano info, which indicates a 30 minute ride from Murano.

Thanks for the great tip on the Venice for Visitors website! What a fantastic resource!

  7. Thanks Simon for your reply! We are debating spending a couple nights either in London or near Heathrow and then going to Dover. If we return to Heathrow we can catch the ship's bus to Dover. Thanks again, Rick & Diana

  8. We are flying to Heathrow and will be cruising from Dover. Do you have any tips and advice for transportation from Heathrow to Dover?

    Thanks in advance,

  9.
I think I can butt in and answer this!

In stores, the price will be rounded up or down. They may take your pennies but are not required to, so maybe the bank is the best place to drop it off. Older bills are no problem.+_
Thanks for your reply. After visiting BC, I must admit that I prefer the old style paper bills to the new plastic tender!

  10.
We're going March 14th on Star Princess and wonder if they will be offering the lobster and shrimp on both formal nights or if we should book those nights in the Crown. Also, is Sabatini's worth it? Thanks for your input!
We sailed on the Star to Mexico just a few weeks ago. The lobster was served in the MDR on the second formal night. I must say, the lobster was excellent! We enjoyed a very nice dinner, including a lobster course, in Sabatini's on the first formal night. We've had great meals at Sabatini's, last year on the Emerald Princess TA & recently on the Star. On our recent cruise we also ate at the Crown Grill. The lobster in the Crown was very salty and in hindsight we should have sent it back. Our MDR dinner companions had an excellent steak meal at the Crown. The common denominator for both Sabatini's and the Crown is that we had excellent waiters.

  11. I don't think that we have had the lobster more than twice...it really isn't very good. If you aren't into formal nights then you certainly can give it a pass.

Hi Putterdude - thanks for the reply. I noticed by your location that you spend time on the Sunshine Coast. We have travelled there on several occasions and have actually stayed at a B&B in Sechelt. Here are a couple questions that I posted on another thread - would you have some advice on Canadian currency & coin?

I have heard that Canada no longer uses penny coins. Are pennies are still accepted at stores? Do we just have to turn them in at a Canadian bank?

Also, we have a few odd Canadian bills from our last trip. Now I hear that their bills are a type of plastic. Is the old paper currency still legal tender?

    thanks!

    Rick

  12. The lobster varies a lot; we've had some that is pretty bad, but our last cruise it was really quite good; neither of us likes the prawns so we asked for and got two lobster tails instead.

No, not the same as fresh Maine lobster, but still pretty good.

I wouldn't stay away from formal night since minimal 'dressing up' is required. Nice slacks and shirt for a man (blazer an added bonus) nice slacks and blouse for a woman is all that is required.

We dress up somewhat, cocktail wear, but there were many on the Golden in February who dressed exactly the same as on casual night.

Thanks much for the reply. We have always packed our formal wear and dressed for formal night. However, we will sail on a short Princess cruise to Alaska which will have 2 formal nights. On a previous Celebrity cruise to Alaska, an announcement was made stating that the dress code had been relaxed. Based on the replies to my original post, I think we will leave the formal wear behind for another cruise.
