  1. Because nobody in their right mind would pay 89.00 per day, plus 20% gratuity for their drink package. Granted, it's unlimited, but it is capped at 15.00 per drink and only includes alcohol and fountain soda. But, you do get it for 125.00 per person for a 7 day cruise, which is the 20% gratuity charge.
When they offer the Free-at-sea promotion you can get the unlimited package but pay $15 per day for gratuities up front. If your choice of cocktail or wine is over $15 you pay the difference. We trend to drink way too much since it's "free" but it's a good deal for those who enjoy two or more drinks every day.

  2. My cruise isn't until Christmas. What about the people already ON their cruise? I haven't seen an announcement on them. Agreed with all the comments about the people directly affected (effected? I can never remember) too! Good thread.

I always reminded my students to be thankful they were born speaking Engish and didn't have to learn it as a second language with so many rules to remember!. Here's how to decide which one: Effect is the noun, affect is the verb. You were right the first time!

  3. Current reviews on CC for NCL Star all indicate that the problem has been fixed. My DH and I are looking forward to sailing on her in September.

We were on the Star for the cruise after the "Cruise to Nowhere" from Auckland to Singapore with no problems. I asked the captain about the repairs at the Q&A and he explained how the needed parts from Italy were installed in Melbourne. He said the mechanics climbed down inside the azipods to replace the faulty parts. He was very relieved to have her fully functional again after all of the problems. BTW Singapore is a fascinating country with so much to see. Definitely plan a trip if you haven't been there!

  4. So that means the time frames that NCL are giving, that is, it's going to be in Auckland in time are false and they don't actually know yet?! NCL are behaving disgracefully over this, they should be allowing people to cancel with full refunds, not allowing people to travel from all over the world to join the ship next week when they don't even know if it'll be there!

We are booked on the Feb 18 cruise and were offered 100% refund on Feb 3 if we chose to cancel, which we didn't. We're heading to Aukland on the 14th and will have a great time whatever the outcome!

  5. Let me get this straight. If you decide to cancel, NCL will give you a future cruise credit. What if NCL decides to cancel the cruise, then I assume you would receive a full refund or am I wrong?

Yes, full refund. That is in the guest contract on the website. it's on you vacation summary at the bottom under "What you need to Know".

  6. for real? We have only the offer to get back free of charge without compensation

Maybe because we haven't sailed yet. It will be interesting to see what happens if the Star doesn't make it to Aukland in time. They already had modified the itineray taking off three ports, but adding an overnight in Aukland to depart on the 19th.

  7. I'm guessing most would be satisfied if NCL allowed those with upcoming cruises to cancel with no or reduced penalty .That decision they could and should make .

We are scheduled on the 2/18 cruise. We have been offered a 100% future cruise credit should we decide not take this cruise. We will arrive in Aukland on the 16th regardless and plan on having a great time seeing New Zealand if the cruise doesn't depart at all.

  8. I haven't got a list of exact names, but just got off. Spelling might not be accurate and I don't have a full list.

    Captain - Matthias Andersson

HD - Manni (short for a longer Greek name. Don't know his surname.

    CD - Richard Matic.

I think we have met Richard before. He was the first Philipino cruise director we've seen. He always had a story to tell! We enjoyed him!
