Thank you notamermaid for the information and videos regarding Carnival. It certainly looks like a lot of fun is had by all 😊

Thank you for your kind wishes 😊. Using the above link it looks like our ship the Polaris is in Duisburg.

We will be doing our first river cruise with Travelmarvel leaving Budapest on 29th March. I found this thread late last year so will be following closely.
Thank you Notamermaid for sharing your knowledge.- 1

Thanks Don. Have been in contact with H and think it was some kind of glitch. Will look at others also.

Have just seen that this voyage on Fram is showing as sold out. Last week it was available to book for 2023 and 2024. Does anyone know what’s going on? Have emailed Hurtigruten.
-
If you ask to rebook at a later date they may not charge you. This is what I did.
-
I would email and see if you can rebook for next year if that’s a possibility for you. It sounds like they may not take US tourists by September any way, in that case you could possibly get a refund.
-
We were also booked on the Otto Sverdrup from Bergen in January. We have decided to rebook for January 2022 on the Otto leaving from Hamburg as have been told that is where it will be leaving from for 2021 and 2022. Originally asked for a refund due to not being what we had originally booked ( ship and cabin, didn’t want sofa beds. ) we are waiting for this cruise to open for booking now. Pretty sure that Australians won’t be going anywhere in January 21.

Thank you hallasm. Great review. Definitely want to have the snow so looks like January is the way to go.
-
Great pics clo. Thank you SarniaLo I was hoping you would reply as I know you have been a few times. We are leaning toward January for the snow. I think this year the November travellers have been very lucky.

We are looking at doing the new expidition cruise from Bergen to North Cape and return in winter as we have wanted to do the coastal cruise at that time since doing a summer voyage. There is unite a good special at the moment on the expedition cruise so thought we would take that instead. Having trouble deciding between mid November or late January. I know there is no guarantee for NL but would you recommend one of these times over the other and why?
Thank you

We had a brilliant time in August. We were unable to circumnavigate as there was still ice in the North East. Also missed out on a couple of other places due to the ice. Svalbard was fabulous. I would go again if I didn’t live in Australia. We did a kayaking excursion which was great and got up close to a glacier.
We saw 5 polar bears, walrus, seals and whales, including a blue whale. And lots of birds. The weather was mixed, one rainy day, some light snow and fine weather, a bit of fog. The crew was great and we learnt loads about the area from going to the lectures. You will love it.

We just finished a cruise on the Spitsbergen and met a couple who were originally staying on to do this voyage. They were offered a discount on a repeat of the voyage we did, Svalbard or a full refund which they took.
-
From following cruisemapper it doesn’t look like ther has been a circumnavigation this year. We are on the Spitsbergen from 17th August and am thinking that we won’t get to do the circumnavigation.
-
Will definitely lets you know all about it when we’re back. Am hoping to go to Antarctica in 2023 for you 60th. We did the coastal cruise on Spitsbergen in 2017 and loved it. Am really looking forward to the expedition cruise.

Bob, thank you for the link. I had not seen that guide previously

We are going 16th August this year. Booked April last year. The time will go quickly

Jackie, there is a Facebook page called Hurtigruten Insiders. You might want to join that and ask on there also. You will love it. Pip( a fellowPerth girl)

Thanks everyone, Sept sounds perfect, just also wondering if the round trip is better or should we dedicate the extra days on land?
Has to be a personal decision. Coming from Australia we did the round trip as thought we may never get that way again ( now going to Svalbard in August!).
Breakfast at the North Cape was wonderful. We had a night in Bergen before and after and did the Norway in a nutshell round trip from Bergen after the cruise.which I highly recommend. Can never have too much Norwegian scenery IMO.

Yes - Hjørundfjord (difficult spelling) only In September and October while Geiranger in June to August. Beautiful sailing In the fjords.
Thank you hallasm. We chose September due to the fjord, chance of seeing the lights and because it wasn’t high season. We had great weather and loved the whole Hurtigruten experience.
-
Sally and tex. We sailed on the Spitsbergen mid September 2017 and saw the lights 5 nights. Also sailed into the Trollfjord night and day and the hjungerfjord (?) to Urke, which was beautiful and I think only done in September and October. We had a cabin with a window but spent most of the time on deck. Take layers.
We are also in Australia and on the UK website you can book to pay in GBP or Euros, it’s just a gamble on the exchange rates.
-
Fabulous photos. Thank you for posting. We are booked on a cruise similar to this in August 2019

We went to Hjorundfjord in September last year and it was stunning. We had also been torn but decided to go in the autumn and didnt regret it. We also had 5 nights of Northern Lights which is not possible in July/ August and that possibility was another reason we chose Autumn.
