  1. I'm taking my first cruise with a singles group at the end of October (over Halloween.) I was actually planning on doing my first singles cruise over New Years, but the posts I was seeing on a social networking site caused me to move it up a couple months to Halloween. Like you, I was a little curious, so after reading the posts I sent an email to one of the women who was about my age and has done lots of them, and I asked her some questions. She said you can do as much or as little as you want. There are, of course, the partiers, but there are plenty of people who want to have fun but not stay drunk all week. What I am doing is selecting the things I want to do, and not signing up for the ones I do want to do. You should give it some serious thought. I am so excited about my cruise out of Fort Lauderdale on October 26 on the Oasis. Can't wait!:D

  2. My husband (Diamond level TR) and I picked up TR cruise voucher this past weekend in Tunica, MS. It had several trip options to include Bermuda, Caribbean, Europe and Alaska. After researching all the destination options, available dates and ships, we chose and are booked for the maiden voyage of Getaway from Miami on 2/1/2014 to Eastern Caribbean. During the booking process the NCL agent seemed surprised this was available through a casino offer. But after checking she stated everything was good to go!! We are SO excited...upgraded to a balcony and may go on up to mini suite when the time gets closer. Regardless of any additonal charges, taxes, etc is is a great comp!!

I live less than 30 minutes from the casinos at Tunica, but I haven't been playing as much at the Harrahs properties; lately I've been going to Fitzgerald's or Hollywood. Did certain levels in the TR program get this offer? I haven't received one and think it is probably that I don't have enough play on my card.

  3. Hi, I'm Celeste. I'm 57, a retired Postmaster, and haven't cruised solo yet as I was recently widowed. I booked the Enchantment of the Seas for a three day cruise to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral on 9/13 intending for this to be my first solo but then a friends asked to join me. OK, so first solo cruise is still in the future! Since I can travel on 48 hours of notice from any Florida port, I'm hoping to find some bargains!

Hi, Celeste. Sorry for your loss.

I am glad you found this thread. I have found that there are a lot of great people traveling solo who post on the CC boards.

Be sure to look in the Roll Calls list to see if one has been created for your cruise and join it. And enjoy your cruise!

  4. Do you enjoy solo or do you have friends who don't travel with you? I have friends who are married or those with little cash for travel so I have just decided to travel alone for the first time. My one travel partner has no interest in some of my destinations so these are my solo plans for now. Just wondering what people are doing.

Speaking for myself, I am traveling solo in October for the first time for the same reasons. Some of my single friends don't have the money right now, and some are waiting until they are in a relationship to go on a cruise. (That one I completely do NOT understand.) So, I decided to get on these boards and meet people. I booked my singles group cruise through a travel agency which helps because they have their own groups on Facebook.

  5. It is the fulfillment of a promise I made myself in 1996. While on a cruise, I said I wanted to sail around the world when I retired. I have now been retired a year and my cruise is 6 months away.

Hi, Kathi. So great that you are fulfilling your promise to yourself!

  6. Hi, everyone. My name is Lisa, and I live in North Mississippi, near Memphis, Tennessee. I am in my early 50s (the new 40s!) single, and LOVE cruising but have trouble finding someone to go with me, so I decided to meet new friends that like to cruise and eliminate that problem. :)

In 2009 I went on two cruises with small groups of friends and fell in love with it. Recently I made a decision to take two cruises per year as my vacation; I'm bad about not taking enough R&R.

I am signed up through a singles group for the RCCL Oasis of the Seas for the Halloween cruise. I also plan to go on the Carnival Sunshine over New Year's but haven't booked that one yet.

  7. On my most recent cruise a group formed out of the message board roll call. We hung out together. We did a sail-away together, a formal meeting with the crew, another sail-away party, a dinner, and a shore excursion. :)

I am hoping to meet new friends to sail and do the same things with. I don't understand why more of my single friends do not want to go on a cruise unless it is with someone they are dating. I see myself being a solo cruiser for a long time and I'm looking forward to it. :D

  8. I will be cruising solo with NCL Breakaway on 9/22. I book it through the cruise line. I will see how it work out for me. ..... Wish me luck and I will share my first solo cruise experience here. Thank you again.

I'm looking forward to reading your review. I have thought about taking a cruise as part of NCL's solo cruise program, too. I hope it turns out to be a great experience.

  9. Hello fellow solo travelers -- I just got back from my first solo cruises. I did LA to Vancouver on NCL's Jewel, then Vancouver to Seward on RC's Radiance. I had a great time -- though different from traveling with the hubby (he passed away a year ago). I met so many wonderful and interesting people and saw so many awesome sights.

Thoth and Lisa - I used to live in Hattiesburg -- many wonderful Mississippi memories. I'm a grandmamma too; I celebrated my 54th birthday on my recent cruise. The new friends I made on board made it so special-- with champagn, cake, and a special dinner. As I said-- so many wonderful people!

The only thing I didn't like was having to leave those new friends after 7 days and start all over, maybe a good reason to book longer cruises. --- Julie

Sorry for your loss, Julie. Going on your first solo cruise was a big step. Glad you had a great time and your new friends made it special.

In what part of the country do you live now? Maybe we'll end up on the same cruise some day. You never know!

  10. Hi Lisa ! :) I'm Wayne and I live on the other end of Mississippi...Petal near Hattiesburg, so understandably my first two cruises were from New Orleans. I've also done a Carnival cruise from Mobile. Since I prefer history/culture and nature, Alaska and New England/Canada are my favorite cruise destinations. I recently returned from the Sapphire Princess along the California coast. The big city ambiance of LA, San Francisco, and San Diego was lots of fun. Catalina were quite scenic, Santa Barbara had some neat historical buildings.

If you are a baseball fan, congratulations to Southaven and Lewisburg for winning state championships for Desoto County ;)

Also congratulations "Nana" for grandchild #3 :D I have no kids of my own but I do have two nieces ( 4 & 8) so I understand how young children makes us feel.

Thanks, Thoth! She didn't go into labor this weekend, so it will be this week for sure. If she hasn't had the baby by Thursday they will induce.

I have friends in Hattiesburg and remember seeing signs for Petal when we went to Orange Beach a couple years ago.

I haven't cruised out of New Orleans yet. My first cruise was out of Mobile, and the second one was out of Tampa. I don't mind flying somewhere to cruise as long as I can get the airfare at a good deal.

There are two cruises on my must do list: Alaska and Canada/New England. I need to research the best times to do those. Canada/NE I know would be in the Fall. Not sure about Alaska; maybe May or June?

I have two cruises for later this year picked out: December 14 five day cruise to the Caribbean and New Year's Eve cruise. I've always wanted to do the NYE thing and never have. I'm just gonna do it! I'll be booking those within the next couple weeks.

  11. Here's my story:

My first cruise was in May 2009 and I loved it so much I went on another one in November 2009 (both to the Caribbean.) For the past couple years I have been trying with no luck to get one of my friends to sail with me. I finally decided I don't have to be coupled up or have a cabin mate to cruise, so I am going to start taking two cruises a year - just because it's what I like to do and I want to.

I am a business analyst in IT for a hospitality company and have been single for 11 years. I'm a Nana to two beautiful granddaughters and have another grandchild due any day, but this one is modest - we do not know the gender.

I live in Mississippi and would like to connect with other people who live in Mississippi and people who like to cruise out of New Orleans.

Looking forward to connecting with people.
